Edna A. Scroggins, 82, of Stafford County died Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in King George.
She is survived by two sons, Theodore Culley of Lake Ridge and William Culley of Dale City; five daughters, Marjorie King of Richmond, Deborah Scroggins of Spotsylvania County, Rita Pleasant of Forestville, Md., Dorothy Flowers of Spotsylvania and Laura Scroggins of Dale City; two sisters, Nancy Poole of Dumfries and Alice Foster of Woodbridge; one brother, Isiah Culley of Stafford; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at noon Saturday, March 6, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bobby Daniels officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service.

There were 59 bookings at the San Joaquin County Jail in the 24 hours ending at 8 a.m. Wednesday. At that time, there were 1,354 people held at the jail, which has an official capacity of 1,411.
Drug possession, Stockton: Deputies were called at 12:37 a.m. Wednesday to the first block of North Adelbert Avenue on a report that a woman was causing a disturbance. When they arrived, deputies found Lisa Marie Scroggins, 41, screaming and rolling in a pile of leaves in a front yard. The Sheriff's Office said Scroggins had an outstanding warrant for her arrest and was carrying a loaded syringe and a glass pipe in her purse. She was booked on suspicion of possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of needles, as well as on the outstanding warrant on suspicion of parole violation.

CENTREVILLE Olon Belcher, 95, a lifelong resident of Bibb County, died Feb. 15, 2010, at his home in Centreville. Services will be 12 noon Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, at the Centreville Baptist Church with Rev. Ken Fuller officiating. Burial will follow in Pineland Memorial Cemetery with Rockco Funeral Home of Centreville directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.
Mr. Belcher attended schools in Centreville and was a 1934 graduate of Bibb County High School. From 1934 to 1938, Mr. Belcher attended the University of Alabama School of Engineering.
Mr. Belcher played tackle for the University of Alabama during his college years and was a member of both the 1935 and 1938 Rose Bowl squads.
After leaving the University of Alabama, Mr. Belcher went into the lumber business with his father, H.A. Belcher, and in 1943 purchased the L.L. Ragland Mill in Brent. His business interests grew from the plant in Brent to numerous other local businesses along with residential and commercial real estate development.
Mr. Belcher invested his life and his interest in the communities of Brent and Centreville. A lifelong Brent Civitan member and former Kiwanis Club member, he was always involved in community affairs.
He served his church as a deacon and was a “builder” as Chairman of the Centreville Baptist Church Building Committee. He was elected Trustee at Judson College by the Alabama Baptist Convention in 1962.
Mr. Belcher married Hazel Pierson of Holt in 1940, who preceded him in death in 1999. He is survived by their five children, Olon P. Belcher of Fairhope, Jan Queen (Richard) of Montgomery, Beverly Scroggins [45942?] (William) [45941?] of Tuscaloosa, Brent Belcher (Delilah) of Centreville, and Otha Belcher of Centreville.
Families of the children of Olon and Hazel Belcher include grandchildren and great-grandchildren who survive PawPaw.
Pallbearers are grandsons, Scott Scroggins, Will Scroggins, Jesse Scroggins, Rich Queen, and Jeff Queen.
Honorary pallbearers are all former employees of Mr. Belcher's businesses in the community, deacons and former deacons of the Centreville Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Centreville Baptist Church or one's favorite charity.

Loretta Austin Pacheco, 54, passed away Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, in Alamogordo. She was born June 27, 1955, in Alamogordo to Jim Austin and Connie Scroggins.
Loretta had been a resident of Roswell for five years and a previous resident of Rio Rancho.
She married Edward A. Pacheco on April 19, 1971, in Juarez, Mexico.
Survivors include her mother, Connie Scroggins [39760], of Boles Acres; brother Roy Austin, of El Paso; and children Neal Pacheco and his wife, Angel, Athena Vega and her husband, Ramon, and Antonio Pacheco, all of Rio Rancho. She is also survived by a very special friend, Jeff Sacharski; 10 grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jim Austin; stepfather, Earl Scroggins [9166]; and brothers Freddy Austin and Larry Austin.
Rosary will be recited at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, at Hamilton-O'Dell Chapel by Consuelo Lothridge.
Should friends desire, contributions may be made by contacting the funeral home.

Born to James Russell and Rachel Rohrback Shaw in Lanesboro, Iowa. Bill, as he was known, was a proud member of ''The Greatest Generation'', serving his countty during WWII in the Navy, as a Gunners Mate. During his six years, he was stationed in several locations, including Ireland, Scotland and Panama. While in Scotland, he met and married Carol D. Burke. Bonni Caron Bowerman and James Robert Vance were born to this union. Dad later married Ann Elizabeth Kuh and were together 43 years until her passing. Bill's working career truly began in the Operating Engineers Union. His Local # 3 kept him busy for many years. He took great pride in his participation with the Orland California Dam and Warm Springs Project. Also, his love of hunting and fishing took him to many different places. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister Lucy Ann Scroggins [42177]. He leaves his children, sister-in-law Allie (Jimmy) Lambert, Opal (Kenny) Kuh, and Raymond Kuh, all of Washington. A special thanks to Frank & Pat Schwab of Orland, CA, and Brad Marr of Chico, CA. Paul E. Scroggins Sr., age 75, of Evansville, passed away Friday, February 12, 2010, at his home.
Mr. Scroggins had worked as an over-the-road truck driver for Bunny Bread before his retirement in 1988. He was a member of the River City Eagles, River Bend Association and the Moose Lodge #2056 in Kissimmee, Fla. He was a huge Jeff Gordon and NASCAR fan.
Surviving Paul are his wife of 50 years, Jean Scroggins [45934]; a daughter, Paula (Dale) Hurst of Evansville; two sons, Paul "Ed" Scroggins [42941] and Perry Michael Scroggins [45935], both of Evansville; one sister, Violet Sweeney [45933] of Las Vegas, Nev.; and two brothers, James [9281] (Paula)[45926] Scroggins of Kissimmee, Fla., and Charles [45931] (Gladys)[] Orange of Evansville. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Zachary and Felicia Scroggins; four great-grandchildren, Allison, Morgan, Darious and Kaylee; and several nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by his son, Gary Scroggins [50037], in 1988 and his sister, Burneda Gallion [45930], in 2007.
Funeral services for Mr. Scroggins will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Pierre Funeral Home, the Rev. Ken Gallion officiating. Burial will follow in Locust Hill Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family from 1 to 8 p.m. today at Pierre Funeral Home, where the Rev. Jay Davidson will conduct a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry.

Laura Droigk passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010.
Laura was a beloved mother, grandmother and friend. She was a rural letter carrier for the Palestine Post Office.
She is survived by Cliff Scroggins; two daughters, Klila and Kaitlin Scroggins; son, Cade Scroggins; and a granddaughter, Telaney Scroggins.
She will always be loved and very deeply missed. Laura's memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15, 2010 at Dogwood Hills Baptist Church in Palestine on U.S. 79.

Mrs. Mabel Inez Rose, a resident of the Chapman Healthcare Center in Alexander City, Alabama and formerly of Samson, Alabama and Pensacola, Florida passed away Friday evening, February 5, 2010. She was 87.

was born April 12, 1942 in Dallas, Texas to the late Melvin [37042] and Rebecca Scroggins [37041]. He was one of eleven children born to this union. He was taken home to be with the Lord on January 28, 2010 in Tucson, Arizona. Rafel Scroggins leaves several siblings to cherish his memory: David Scroggins [37045] (Safford, AZ), Jerry Scroggins [37051] (Los Angeles, CA), Herbert Scroggins [37049] (Savannah, GA), Willie Earl Scroggins [37046] (Safford, AZ), Karen High [?] (San Diego, CA), Sheila Irvin [37043] (Safford, AZ), Mildred Scroggins [?](Phoenix, AZ), Merle Scroggins [?] (Phoenix, AZ), and Bob Scroggins [?] (Phoenix, AZ). Rafel leaves a legacy of three surviving sons: Rafael Scroggins Jr. [50032] (San Francisco, CA), Derek Scroggins [] (Sacramento, CA), and Zeke Scroggins [49049] (Lexington, KY); two grandchildren: Seth Scroggins [] and Jada Scroggins [] (Sacramento, CA). Also Colleen Scroggins [] (Pebble Beach, CA), and Thelma Brandon-Davis [] (Safford, AZ), and a host of adoring relatives, cherished friends and church family members, whom he loved. Rafel was very active within the church community. He served the Lord at A-Mountain Church Of God In Christ in Tucson, Arizona. He was very spirit filled and passionate about his church and the work of the Lord, achieving the title of Ordained Deacon on February 1, 1998. He studied the Bible daily, he enjoyed spreading the Lord's Word to all he encountered and would eagerly pray for everybody. He always shared a positive word of encouragement, even when he was ill. Rafel worked in the area of drilling and soil testing for mining operations, among other jobs, before becoming a high power electrician for the City of Tucson for over 30 years. Rafel was a very outgoing person and was well liked by his employer and fellow employees. His enthusiasm for hard work did not stop when he retired in 2004. He made it a point to spend time helping his community and fellow congregational members. He did not know a stranger and has many dear friends throughout the communities of Tucson, Safford and Phoenix, AZ to mourn his passing. Deacon Scroggins, without a doubt -- "All Minds Are Clear" -- you will be truly and sincerely missed! The wake is Friday February 5 6-7PM at Bethesda Community Baptist Church, 906 E. Jones Ave Phoenix. The funeral service is Saturday February 6th 1PM at Taylor Memorial Headquarters, 1725 E. Brill St, Phoenix, AZ. Rev. Edward Clarence 'Eddie' Scroggins

Reverend Eddie Scroggins April 22, 1917 - January 30, 2010 Rev. Eddie Scroggins was taken to his eternal rest Saturday, January 30 at his home in Grand Junction at the age of 92. Edward Clarence Scroggins was born on April 22, 1917 in Eldorado, OK to A.A. (Bud) [9155] and Pearl [9164] Scroggins. He was raised in Oklahoma with his brothers, Earl [9166] (deceased), Ray [9167], and Wayne [9168]. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1941 and was aboard the USS Astoria stationed at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. In 1942, he was given a medical discharge from the service and he returned to Oklahoma. He worked in Lawton, OK as a fireman, attended Cameron College, and met his future bride and lifelong companion, Ruth June Green [8865]. Eddie and June celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on January 19, 2010. Brother Eddie, as he was known to his extended church family, received his call to the ministry in Lawton and he and June began their service to the Lord that continued for the remainder of his life. Eddie served churches in Oklahoma, began a family, and graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University. In 1951, the Scroggins family moved to Colorado to serve at the Calvary Baptist Church at Cortez. In 1955, the family moved to Grand Junction, where Eddie helped begin and build Trinity Baptist Church on Orchard Mesa. After serving at Trinity for many years, Eddie felt called to help rebuild church work in Delta, Paonia, DeBeque, and in Grand Junction. He retired from the pulpit after bringing the message at his 90th birthday celebration at Emmanuel Baptist Church, where he remained a member. Eddie had a passion for serving the Lord both at church and in the community. He was a substitute teacher in local schools for many years, and later, he worked as a juvenile counselor at the Mesa County Sheriff's office. He was an avid supporter of school sports teams and was a fixture at JUCO. He presided over hundreds of weddings and funerals crossing generations of families, including his own children and grandchildren. Eddie's ardent Christian witness and his devotion to God, love of people, and goodness of heart have left a lasting impact on the lives he touched. II Timothy 4:7-8 Eddie and June had seven children, Joy Walker [8867] (Leroy) [8883] , Delta, Sterling [8868] (Paula) [18640], Washington, D.C.; Stephen [8869] (Ronda) [13012], Palisade; John Stanley [?] (deceased); Gloria Trujillo [8870] (Mike) [8870], Espa–ola, NM; Dwayne [8871] (deceased), and Dennis [8872] (Chary) [?], Jakarta, Indonesia; as well as 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held Thursday, February 4 at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, with burial services to follow at Orchard Mesa Cemetery. Rev. Bob Murr of Emmanuel Baptist Church will officiate. A celebration of Brother Eddie's life will follow at Elm Avenue Batpist Church. Callahan Edfast-Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.

James Arnold Williams
James Arnold Williams, "Apple Willy," 88, of Alamogordo, passed into eternal rest on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010.
He was born on Jan. 4, 1922, in Oil City, Pa., and spent most of his life in Alamogordo and Bent. James graduated from Inglewood High School in Inglewood, Calif., in 1939. He joined the 246th Army Air Force Base Unit in February, 1940. He was part of the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during the Air Offensive Japan Campaign in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. He met Mickey Hodgett on a bus in Pyote, Texas. He fell in love and married her on July 29, 1945. They lived in Pratt, Kan., before relocating to Inglewood in 1947. James then became an electrical journeyman and worked for an electrical contractor. While in California, they had two children, Patricia and James.
On a vacation trip in 1954, James and Mickey visited New Mexico and discovered a nice apple farm for sale in Bent. They purchased the farm, moved their family from California, and had two additional children, Linda and Danny. James was an aircraft electrician with the 6580th Field Maintenance Squadron at Holloman Air Force Base until he retired in 1978. He and Mickey were also accomplished apple farmers until they retired in 1996.
James was a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge No. 421 in Inglewood and later Masonic Lodge No. 73 in Ruidoso. He was also a member of the Rocket Shrine Club of Alamogordo.
James, as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, is survived by his wife, Mickey Williams, and four children: Patricia Pendergraft (Carl), of Las Cruces; James Williams (Lori), of Amarillo, Texas; Linda Hardisty (Don), of Albuquerque; and Dan Williams (Debbie), of Alamogordo. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, "His Girls" Leah Carbajal (Gabriel), Elana Rambow (Dean), Megan Fokken (Micky), Gayle Williams (Ryan) and "His Boys" Philip Scroggins, Michael Hardisty and Robert Hardisty. There are four great-grandchildren: Reyes Carbajal, Maia Carbajal, Landon Williams and Cormac Mitchell.
He was preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Irene Williams and a sister, Jean Keefe.

LINCOLN -- Kenneth Wayne Molt, 74, of Lincoln, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010, at 6:26 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, following Masonic rites at 3:30 p.m., which all master Masons are invited to attend.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Carlyle Cemetery, Lake Fork.
Mr. Molt was employed as a firefighter for the city of Lincoln for 30 years. He previously worked at Stetson China, Beich's Candy, and Lehn & Fink. He held an Illinois barber's license since 1963.
He was born Feb. 16, 1935, in Lincoln to Leon Lowell [30992] and Reva Scroggins Molt [30991]. He married Laura Mae Van Fossan on Dec. 31, 1954, in Lincoln.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Kenneth Leon Molt of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., and Rodney Eugene (and Lisa) Molt of Lincoln; a brother, Lowell (and Shirley) Molt of Mount Pulaski; two half brothers, Lonnie and Kevin Molt of Alabama; one sister, Jacquelyn Lannin of Springfield; three grandchildren, Andrew, Tyler and Damian Molt of Riverton; two step-grandchildren, Randy Bailey of Chatham and Candace Bailey of Springfield; one great-grandchild, Jaden Ann Molt; and three step-great-grandchildren, Austin and Conner Bailey and Emma Graham.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was very active in Lincoln Lodge 210, York Rite Order, White Shrine of Jerusalem and Independent Order of Odd Fellows 204.
Kenny held a pilot's license for a number of years and was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association since 1969.

LINCOLN -- Kenneth Wayne Molt, 74, of Lincoln, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010, at 6:26 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, following Masonic rites at 3:30 p.m., which all master Masons are invited to attend.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Carlyle Cemetery, Lake Fork.
Mr. Molt was employed as a firefighter for the city of Lincoln for 30 years. He previously worked at Stetson China, Beich's Candy, and Lehn & Fink. He held an Illinois barber's license since 1963.
He was born Feb. 16, 1935, in Lincoln to Leon Lowell [30992] and Reva Scroggins Molt [30991]. He married Laura Mae Van Fossan on Dec. 31, 1954, in Lincoln.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Kenneth Leon Molt of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., and Rodney Eugene (and Lisa) Molt of Lincoln; a brother, Lowell (and Shirley) Molt of Mount Pulaski; two half brothers, Lonnie and Kevin Molt of Alabama; one sister, Jacquelyn Lannin of Springfield; three grandchildren, Andrew, Tyler and Damian Molt of Riverton; two step-grandchildren, Randy Bailey of Chatham and Candace Bailey of Springfield; one great-grandchild, Jaden Ann Molt; and three step-great-grandchildren, Austin and Conner Bailey and Emma Graham.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was very active in Lincoln Lodge 210, York Rite Order, White Shrine of Jerusalem and Independent Order of Odd Fellows 204.
Kenny held a pilot's license for a number of years and was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association since 1969.

Thomas Raymond Koballa, 84, of Wilmington passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2010, at The Commons of Brightmore. He had previously been a resident of Fayetteville, North Carolina, for 35 years.
Tom was born February 6, 1925, in Palmer, Pennsylvania; he was the son of the late Michael and Anna Koballa. He served in the United State Marine Corps during World War II and after attending the University of Pittsburg, was commissioned in the United State Army where he was a Bronze Star Medal recipient during the Vietnam War. During his Army career, he completed his undergraduate and master's degrees at North Carolina State University. He later completed his working career teaching Psychology at Fayetteville Technical Community College at the age of 65.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Dorothy A. Koballa; a brother, Emil Koballa and wife Erma of Fullerton, California; children Thomas R. Koballa, Jr. and wife Dava of Athens, GA, Donna M. Scroggins [46433]and husband Stacy [46426] of Jupiter, FL, Michael A. Koballa and wife Linda of Greensboro, NC, Dennis S. Koballa and wife Anne of Durham, NC and Patrick J. Koballa and wife Cheryl of Wrightsville Beach, NC; and 10 grandchildren, Kendal Koballa, Christopher McMillan, Matthew McMillan, Brett Scroggins [], Michael Koballa, Jr., Kate Koballa, Emily Koballa, Sam Koballa, Erin Koballa and Kasey Koballa.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 39 years Jerry Whitcher. She is also preceded by brother Kirk Curran and sister Shirley Rockwell.
Naomi is survived by her sister, Sharon Albert, children and spouses: Diane and Jay Neil, Michael Barney and TJ Hall, Shirlee and David Ebster: Jerrry Whitcher Jr. and Naomi Scroggins. She was born January 19, 1914, to the late Printha and Robert Benham in Orio, Illinois. She graduated from Allendale High School in 1933 and later was employed as a cashier at First National Bank of Allendale. Bertalene was an excellent seamstress, and she also had a great love and concern for all animals, especially her beloved dogs, Irish, Cricket and Benji. She was of the Methodist faith.
She was preceded in death by husband, Byard Leeds, husband, Harold Cook, brothers, Nolan Benham and Levitt Benham and sister, Roberta Sanders.

ISLAND PARK - Nathan K. Jensen, 17, of Island Park, died Sunday, January 10, 2010 at his home.
He was born January 6, 1993, in Idaho Falls to Jackie Cameron Jensen and Kelly Ray Jensen. He lived in Island Park his entire life and attended school in Ashton. He was a junior at North Fremont High School.
He was very passionate about life, his interests and the people that were close to him.
He enjoyed playing his guitars and was very talented. His ability allowed him to play just about anything. He rode snowmobiles, dirt bikes and snowboarded. By the time he was 16, he had broken all of his limbs doing the things he enjoyed.
Nate worked in the kitchen at Phillips Lodge and touched everyone that he worked with. His wit and sense of humor were incredible.
He is survived by his mother, Jackie Jensen, his father, Kelly Jensen, sister, Riley Jensen, all of Island Park; his grandparents, Paul and Judy Deffinger of Pocatello, Roger Cameron of Pocatello, LaRay Scroggins of Ririe; great-grandmother, Donna Scroggins of Ririe; and his aunt Christie Cameron of Island Park. He was preceded in death by his great-grandfather, Ray Scroggins, and great-grandmother, Mina Cameron.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 14 at the Ashton LDS Stake Center, 516 North Second Street. The family will meet with friends Thursday from noon to 12:45 p.m. at the stake center prior to services. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Baxter Funeral Home in Ashton.

Robert E. Goodall Sr., 79, of Joplin, Mo., died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin.
Bob was born May 31, 1930, in Greenfield, the son of the late Marion and Gertrude (Anderson) Goodall. He served in the United States Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was awarded two Purple Hearts. In his early years, he worked on the family farm before entering the military. He enjoyed coon hunting, boating, water skiing on the river and ice skating. Later, he worked for the Laclede Steel Mill in Alton. He was owner operator of two trucks. He was a heavy equipment operator and a member of Operator Engineers Local 101 Heavy Equipment. After his retirement, he worked part time as a security guard.
He married Barbara J. Scroggins [26154] on Jan. 31, 1953, in Winchester. She preceded him in death only two short months ago on Nov. 13, 2009. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Goodall; a granddaughter, Corey Shea Goodall; and a brother, John Goodall.
He is survived by four sons, Robert E. Goodall Jr. and wife Annette of Nixa, Mo., William Goodall and wife Carolyn of Aurora Mo., Gordon Goodall and wife Kathy of Joplin, Mo., and Jeff Goodall and wife Susie of Newtonia, Mo.; three daughters, Cara Odle of Butler, Reneé Bowman and husband Stan of Diamond, Mo., and Minda Cowan and husband Michael of Baxter Springs, Kan.; one brother, William E. Goodall of White Hall; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Chapel in Joplin, Mo. Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Chapel. Burial will be at Macedonia Cemetery, near Stella, Mo. Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association.

Stephen "Steve" Wayne Wheeler, age 66, of Pearland passed away January 16, 2010, following a brief illness. Steve was a loving and devoted son, husband, father and brother. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.G. Wheeler; his wife, Debbie Sharpe Wheeler; son, Joey Bartlett; daughters, Stephanie Hill and husband, Don, Amanda Riese and husband, Leigh, and Ashley Marquez and husband, Jason; brother, Mike Wheeler and wife, Pat; sister, Kay Scroggins and husband, Bill; grandchildren, who lovingly referred to him as Paw Paw; Anna, Philip and Jude Riese, Chris, Josh, Caitlyn and Lorelei Marquez, Corinne Hill; and many nieces and nephews. Steve was born February 24, 1943, in Orange, Texas, and resided in the Pearland/Alvin area for more than 35 years. His second love, after his family, was teaching, and he spent 37 years in the biology department at Alvin Community College as a professor and administrator. After retiring in August 2009, Steve looked forward to spending quiet time on Lake Livingston, traveling, playing golf and enjoying time with his grandchildren. Steve will be fondly remembered for his warm heart, quick wit and dry sense of humor. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him. A celebration of Steve's life will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 19, 2010, in the Clayton Chapel. Bill, as he was known, was a proud member of 'The Greatest Generation,' serving his country during WWII in the Navy, as a Gunner's Mate.
During his six years, he was stationed in several locations including Ireland, Scotland and Panama. While in Scotland, he met and married Carol D. Burke. Bonni Caron Bowerman and James Robert Vance were born to this union.
Dad later married Ann Elizabeth Kuh and they were together 43 years until her passing.
Bill's working career truly began in the Operating Engineers Union. His local #3 kept him busy for many years. He took great pride in his participation with the Orland California Dam and Warm Springs Project. Also his love of hunting and fishing took him many different places.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister Lucy Ann Scroggins [42177]. He leaves his children, sister-in-law Allie (Jimmy) Lambert, Opal (Kenny) Kuh and Raymond Kuh, all of Washington.

Bertha E. Hutchison, 93 of Shippensburg passed away, Wednesday, January 6, 2010 in Menno Haven, Chambersburg.
Born June 2, 1916 near Roxbury, Franklin County; she was a daughter of the late William Walter and Edith Pauline Sites Martin.
She was the widow of Irvin D. Hutchison whom she married May 12, 1933.
Mrs. Hutchison was a housewife, mother and grandmother, a member of the Church of Christ, Shippensburg, a former employee of Fairchild Aircraft, Hagerstown, and of the H.J. Heinz Co., Chambersburg.
Her hobbies consisted of sewing, crocheting, making crafts, gardening, and traveling.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her infant son Thomas I. Hutchison, a brother William E. Martin, and a sister Mary S. Brill, three great grandchildren Andrea L. Gantt, Kenneth L. Surber, and Maison P. Killian.
She is survived by a son; William P. Hutchison and his wife Carma of Shippensburg, three daughters; Shirley L. Perry and Linda M. Shettel of Shippensburg, and Sondra L. Scroggins and her husband Don of Midland, VA, a sister; Audrey P. Eutzy and her husband Carl of Silver Springs, MD, a brother; Ronald G. Martin and his wife Norma of Fayetteville, fifteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren, eight great great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 22, 2010 in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc., Shippensburg at 2:00 p.m.. Officiating will be The Rev. Vernon D. Isner. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the services in the funeral home on Friday.

DAMARISCOTTA, ME: Mary Jean (Brinton) Swank, passed away at Cove's Edge Nursing Home in Damariscotta, Maine, on December 31, 2009, following a long illness.
She is survived by her loving husband, Rod William Swank of Pemaquid, Maine, whom she married in August 1950. They moved to Maine in 1984, following active careers in education in Ohio.
Mary Jean was born on November 19, 1927, in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, to Maibelle (nee Hardy) and Mark H. Brinton, and grew up in nearby Jeannette. She graduated from Jeannette High School (1946), Ohio Wesleyan University (B.A., 1950), and Kent State University (M.S., 1977). In college, she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta (social sorority), Mortar Board (leadership honorary), and Theta Alpha Phi (theatre honorary) and served as President of the YWCA. She taught English and speech, served as an elementary school librarian, and directed nearly 50 high-school plays in the Heath City Schools from 1962 to 1984. During that time, she was active in the Saturday Review Club (Utica) and Delta Kappa Gamma education honorary, and served one term as Secretary of the Ohio Federation of Women's Clubs. She and her husband were founding members of the Heath United Methodist Church.
Upon moving to Maine, Mrs. Swank became active in and eventually served as President of the Fortnightly Club, the Willing Workers, the local Delta Kappa Gamma chapter, and the Lincoln County Garden Club. She was a member of the New Harbor United Methodist Church, an active volunteer for Olde Bristol Days, and an annual participant in the Damariscotta Region Cancer Walk. She loved reading, theatre, travel, gardening, playing the piano, music, and the dogs and cats under her feet over the years. Most of all, Jean loved her husband, her daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren, and her many students, colleagues, and friends.
Mary Jean is survived by her husband, Rod Swank (Pemaquid, Maine); daughters, Constance Swank (Tacoma, Washington), Ilene Garrett (Carmel, Indiana), Kathleen Barkley (Roswell, Georgia), and Carolyn Scroggins (Madison, Alabama); sons-in-law, Dan Scroggins, Dan Barkley, and Wayne Garrett; and grandchildren, Benjamin, Chase, and Lydia Scroggins, Jordan Barkley, and David and Abigail Garrett.
One infant daughter Janice preceded her in death.
All who knew Jean were blessed by her wonderful intellect, quiet but adventuresome spirit, generous heart, and deep values. She will be missed beyond measure.
A summer 2010 memorial service to celebrate Mary Jean Brinton Swank will be held at the Harrington Cemetery. The family has requested any gifts in her name be given to the Alzheimer's Association of America.

Jeffrey was born July 4, 1963, in Amarillo. He graduated from Channing High School in 1981. He worked as a loader with his dad at Western Sand and Gravel for more than 15 years. He was currently employed at Flying Star Transport as a truck driver.
He was a member of South Georgia Baptist Church.
Jeffrey was a loving husband, father, son and brother.
He married Millie Wilcox [46789] on Feb. 14, 2004, in Guymon, Okla.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Norma Scroggins [40266], in 1986, and a brother, Billy Lee Scroggins [40264], in 1995.
Survivors include his wife, Millie; a son, Callen Scroggins [46790] of Dumas; his father and stepmother, Billy J. [36067] and Dolores [36068] Scroggins of Amarillo; a brother, Erick N. Scroggins [40267] and wife Vikki [] of Pinehurst, N.C.; a sister, Jada [40269] Jackson and husband Michael [] of Amarillo; and numerous other family members.

DAYTON — A 19-year-old man who was shot four times Saturday night died early Sunday morning, Nov. 22, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.
Trenton Scroggins, of Dayton, was pronounced dead at Miami Valley Hospital at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday, according to officials.
Dayton police continued Sunday to look for suspects in the shooting, which occurred about 7:48 p.m. Saturday on Willowwood Drive near Shadyside Drive.
Police received initial reports of four men chasing a male down the street and shooting at him. When they arrived at the scene, they found blood on a driveway and bullet casings on the ground, but no victim.
According to authorities, three family members and friends had already driven the victim to Good Samaritan Hospital. He was later transferred to Miami Valley.
Scroggins had had several run ins with police, including an armed robbery with a toy gun in 2007 and an arrest for public indecency in August, police and court records show. 4 times identified

Barbara Jean Goodall, age 75, of Joplin, Mo., passed away Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at St. John's Regional Medical Center following an illness. She was born May 2, 1934, in Carrollton, Ill., to Raymond E. and Wilba Mae Scroggins. She moved to Joplin, in 1974, from Carrollton. Barbara worked at Consumers Market for 12 years. She attended the Gateway Church, where she was active in youth activities and preparing meals. Barbara enjoyed quilting, playing bridge and spending time with family and friends. She married Robert E. Goodall on Jan. 31, 1952. He survives at the home. Additional survivors include four sons, Robert Goodall Jr. and wife, Annette, William Goodall and wife, Carolyn, Gordon Goodall and Jeff Goodall and wife, Susie; three daughters, Cara Odle and husband, Bob, Renee Bowman and husband, Stan and Minda Cowan and husband, Michael; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Barbara was preceded in death by one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Goodall; one granddaughter, Corey Shea Goodall; and two brothers, Raymond and Wayne Scroggins. The son of Charles [49703] and Hazel [49704], brother to Steven [49705] and Blayne [49706] and Julie Chalmers [49707]. He is survived by his wife Susan [49708], nee Betts, and his children Charlie [49709], Fay [49710] and Robin [49711]. Funeral to take place in Hexham, Northumberland.

Guy Thomas Scroggin III, born on January 26, 1958, passed away on November 1, 2009. He is survived by his parents, Guy [49661] & Mae [49667] Scroggin of San Antonio; his sister and brother-in-law, Mike and Jeanie [49669] Poppell of Sabinal, also 3 nieces; 1 great niece and 1 great nephew. He graduated from Lee High in 1976 and from S.W. Texas State University in 1981. He was so loved and will be missed very much. May he rest in eternal peace. It was Guy's wish to be cremated, and a private memorial has been held.

CONWAY, AR - Scroggins, Raymond, 83, formerly of Wichita, passed away Thursday, October 29, 2009. He was born June 29, 1926, in Boxley, AR, to the late Marion Franklin [4904] and Jenny (Villines) [4903] Scroggins. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Anna Fern (Wishon) Scroggins [18890]. He retired after 32 years with Eby Construction and was an avid fisherman. He is survived by a son, Jackie Ray Scroggins [18891] and wife, Val [18892] of Wichita, Kansas; daughter, Pattie Jean Merrill [18893] and husband, Charles [18894] of Pine Bluff; son, Joe Scroggins [18895] and wife Lynn [18896] of Morrilton; son, Duel Scroggins [18897] of Little Rock; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A graveside service was held on Monday, November 2, at Beechwoods Cemetery in Ponca, AR, Rev. Donnie Villines officiated with Jerry and Rosie Bryant assisting. Visitation was Sunday at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway. Pallbearers were Patrick Scroggins, Joey Scroggins, Joel Tindall, Bobby Scroggins, Chris Scroggins, and Jamie Merrill. C. A. 'Buck' Buchanan [42820]C. A. "Buck" Buchanan (aka Dad, Grandpa, and Pawpaws) went to be with his heavenly Father and loving wife, Mary, on Thursday, October 29, 2009. He was one of four children, born July 15, 1914, to Claude and Elizabeth Mae (Marler) Buchanan on the family farm in Washita County, OK. The family later relocated to Hobart, OK, where he graduated high school. He attended Harding Christian University when it was located in Morrillton, AR. While in Morrillton he met Mary Lee Scroggin. They were married August 13, 1936. Returning to Hobart, OK, Buck began his business career as manager of T.G.&Y., until he was drafted into the Navy in January, 1944. He was assigned to travel on the USS Noordam under the command of Admiral Nimatz in route to his duty station at Alea Naval Base in Honolulu, HI. After 6 weeks of boot camp upon arrival in Hawaii, he entered Com. Ser. Pac. (Command Service in the Pacific), where he was a photographer put in charge of "V" mail, putting all incoming and outgoing mail on microfilm then reprinting every piece of mail, even his personal mail, before delivery to the addressees. He received an honorable discharge on November 11, 1945. He returned to his family in Arkansas, then relocated them back to Hobart, OK and resumed employment with T.G.&Y. The family lived in Oklahoma City and Memphis, TN while still serving as a store manager. Buck eventually was promoted to Vice-President of Leasing at the T.G.&Y. Corporate office, retiring in 1979. After retirement, Buck continued his business career when he and his wife founded MACABCO, Inc. Through MACABCO Buck participated in part ownership of shopping center re-development at Perry Plaza in Perry OK, residential and townhouse development of the Brentwood Addition of Edmond, OK, and Brentwood Office Park in Edmond, OK. Buck was also instrumental in partnering and donating land for Edmond's original YMCA on Rankin in Edmond, OK. Buck also used his knowledge and experience from his business career while serving as a member and chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Oklahoma Christian Investment Corporation (OCIC), a vital force for the growth and development of Oklahoma Christian University of Science and Arts in Oklahoma City. As a director of OCIC, Buck was instrumental in the University's business development process, including construction of buildings on campus, residential areas, shopping centers (Eagle Crest Addition and Shopping Center); and Tealridge Retirement Center in Oklahoma City adjacent to Oklahoma Christian (referred to as "OC" within the family). As a friend, donor, and mentor to OC and numerous OC presidents, faculty and staff members, Buck partnered with former university president, Dr. James O. Baird, to develop a school in South Korea. Upon obtaining the blessing and approval of the South Korean government, OC instructors were sent to the school to teach English. On March 29, 1996, The University honored Buck and Mary Buchanan for their longtime involvement and support. In December, 2004, Buck received an Honorary Doctorate Degree from OC. In addition, Buck holds the distinction of being the oldest student to ever enroll for classes at OC for the fall semester of 2007. With the assistance of one of his sons as driver to and from the campus, Buck was warmly greeted by faculty, staff and fellow students as he drove his electric wheelchair from class to class. Buck was an ardent fan of the OC Eagles Basketball Program; and as an Eagles Booster Club member, maintained 2-4 season tickets through the 2007 season. Mr. Buchanan served as an elder at 31st and Penn Church of Christ in Oklahoma City, White Station Church of Christ in Memphis, TN, and was one of a small group who founded College Church of Christ in Oklahoma City, now known as Memorial Road Church of Christ, where he was a Charter Member and one of the first three original elders. Buck's philosophy regarding church responsibilities was the practice of unity and focus on next-door to worldwide missions. Prior to his moving into Gran Gran's Nursing Home in Yukon, OK, he was advising and encouraging the "planting" of the Oakdale Church of Christ in OKC. He resigned as an elder at Memorial Road in 2005 after his wife passed in December, 2004. Buck was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Lee Scroggin Buchanan [42819]; one sister, Gladys Merle Buchanan; one brother, J. B. Buchanan; and one granddaughter, April Anjeanette Buchanan. He is survived by a brother, Glen Buchanan of Benton, AR; a sister, Mae Laverne Back, of McLean, TX, sister in-law, Helen Allison and husband J.H. of Morrilton, AR; sons: Ancel Lee Buchanan and wife, Judy, of Smyrna, GA; Kenneth R. Buchanan and wife, Peggy of Oklahoma City; Albert Brent Buchanan and wife, Helga of DeLand, FL; James Baxter "Jim" Buchanan and wife, Marilyn, of Edmond, OK; and Robert Edwin "Eddie" Buchanan and wife, Kathy, of Broken Arrow, OK; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of business, church and university friends. The family requests memorials be made to In Search of the Lord's Way, P. O. Box 371, Edmond, OK 73083; Memorial Road Church of Christ Missions Program; or to Oklahoma Christian University of Science and Arts Bible Department. Visitation is Sunday, 1:30-8:30 p.m., and Monday, 8:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m., at the funeral home that bears his name, Buchanan Funeral Service. Services to celebrate his life will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 3, at Memorial Road Church of Christ, 2221 E. Memorial Road, Oklahoma City, OK, with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery.
