Ione Bertalene Cook
MOUNT CARMEL, Ill. — Ione Bertalene Cook, 95, of One Park Place in Owensboro, Ky., passed away January 16, 2010, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born January 19, 1914, to the late Printha and Robert Benham in Orio, Illinois. She graduated from Allendale High School in 1933 and later was employed as a cashier at First National Bank of Allendale. Bertalene was an excellent seamstress, and she also had a great love and concern for all animals, especially her beloved dogs, Irish, Cricket and Benji. She was of the Methodist faith.
She was preceded in death by husband, Byard Leeds, husband, Harold Cook, brothers, Nolan Benham and Levitt Benham and sister, Roberta Sanders.
Survivors include nephews, Larry Benham (Esther) and Robert Benham (Clarene) of Mount Carmel, Illinois, Jerry Benham and Paul Benham (Sophrano) of Grayville, Illinois, Keith Sanders (Elissa), Vaughn Sanders (Karen) and Steve Sanders (Sally) of Owensboro, Ky., Dwight Sanders (Jan) of Holland, Indiana, and Bart Benham (Lisa) of Sparks, Nevada; nieces, Lynn Scroggins [42213] of Calmouth Falls, Oregon, and Teri Slead (Doug) of Portland, Oregon; and sister-in-law, Rosie Benham of Beaverton, Oregon. She is also survived by several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Tuesday, January 19, 2010, 11 a.m. at Short Cunningham Funeral Home in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. immediately preceding service. Burial is in Highland Memorial cemetery in Mt. Carmel. Condolences may be online at www.short-cunninghamfh.com.
