Robert E. Goodall Sr. (1930 - 2010)

Robert E. Goodall Sr., 79, of Joplin, Mo., died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin.

Bob was born May 31, 1930, in Greenfield, the son of the late Marion and Gertrude (Anderson) Goodall. He served in the United States Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was awarded two Purple Hearts. In his early years, he worked on the family farm before entering the military. He enjoyed coon hunting, boating, water skiing on the river and ice skating. Later, he worked for the Laclede Steel Mill in Alton. He was owner operator of two trucks. He was a heavy equipment operator and a member of Operator Engineers Local 101 Heavy Equipment. After his retirement, he worked part time as a security guard.

He married Barbara J. Scroggins [26154] on Jan. 31, 1953, in Winchester. She preceded him in death only two short months ago on Nov. 13, 2009. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Goodall; a granddaughter, Corey Shea Goodall; and a brother, John Goodall.

He is survived by four sons, Robert E. Goodall Jr. and wife Annette of Nixa, Mo., William Goodall and wife Carolyn of Aurora Mo., Gordon Goodall and wife Kathy of Joplin, Mo., and Jeff Goodall and wife Susie of Newtonia, Mo.; three daughters, Cara Odle of Butler, ReneƩ Bowman and husband Stan of Diamond, Mo., and Minda Cowan and husband Michael of Baxter Springs, Kan.; one brother, William E. Goodall of White Hall; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Chapel in Joplin, Mo. Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Chapel. Burial will be at Macedonia Cemetery, near Stella, Mo. Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association.
