She proudly served her country in WWII in the US Navy. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and reading. She was predeceased by her husband Jack in 1987. Survivors include three daughters, Nancy Fishner, Plantation, FL, Kim Curtis, Longwood, FL, Holly Scroggin, Wellington, FL, brother Bill Waits, Altamonte Springs, FL, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Stephen "Steve" Wayne Wheeler, age 66, of Pearland passed away January 16, 2010, following a brief illness. Steve was a loving and devoted son, husband, father and brother. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.G. Wheeler; his wife, Debbie Sharpe Wheeler; son, Joey Bartlett; daughters, Stephanie Hill and husband, Don, Amanda Riese and husband, Leigh, and Ashley Marquez and husband, Jason; brother, Mike Wheeler and wife, Pat; sister, Kay Scroggins and husband, Bill; grandchildren, who lovingly referred to him as Paw Paw; Anna, Philip and Jude Riese, Chris, Josh, Caitlyn and Lorelei Marquez, Corinne Hill; and many nieces and nephews. Steve was born February 24, 1943, in Orange, Texas, and resided in the Pearland/Alvin area for more than 35 years. His second love, after his family, was teaching, and he spent 37 years in the biology department at Alvin Community College as a professor and administrator. After retiring in August 2009, Steve looked forward to spending quiet time on Lake Livingston, traveling, playing golf and enjoying time with his grandchildren. Steve will be fondly remembered for his warm heart, quick wit and dry sense of humor. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him. A celebration of Steve's life will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 19, 2010, in the Clayton Chapel. Born to James Russell and Rachel Rohrback Shaw in Lanesboro, Iowa.
Bill, as he was known, was a proud member of 'The Greatest Generation,' serving his country during WWII in the Navy, as a Gunner's Mate.
During his six years, he was stationed in several locations including Ireland, Scotland and Panama. While in Scotland, he met and married Carol D. Burke. Bonni Caron Bowerman and James Robert Vance were born to this union.
Dad later married Ann Elizabeth Kuh and they were together 43 years until her passing.
Bill's working career truly began in the Operating Engineers Union. His local #3 kept him busy for many years. He took great pride in his participation with the Orland California Dam and Warm Springs Project. Also his love of hunting and fishing took him many different places.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister Lucy Ann Scroggins [42177]. He leaves his children, sister-in-law Allie (Jimmy) Lambert, Opal (Kenny) Kuh and Raymond Kuh, all of Washington.

Bertha E. Hutchison, 93 of Shippensburg passed away, Wednesday, January 6, 2010 in Menno Haven, Chambersburg.
Born June 2, 1916 near Roxbury, Franklin County; she was a daughter of the late William Walter and Edith Pauline Sites Martin.
She was the widow of Irvin D. Hutchison whom she married May 12, 1933.
Mrs. Hutchison was a housewife, mother and grandmother, a member of the Church of Christ, Shippensburg, a former employee of Fairchild Aircraft, Hagerstown, and of the H.J. Heinz Co., Chambersburg.
Her hobbies consisted of sewing, crocheting, making crafts, gardening, and traveling.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her infant son Thomas I. Hutchison, a brother William E. Martin, and a sister Mary S. Brill, three great grandchildren Andrea L. Gantt, Kenneth L. Surber, and Maison P. Killian.
She is survived by a son; William P. Hutchison and his wife Carma of Shippensburg, three daughters; Shirley L. Perry and Linda M. Shettel of Shippensburg, and Sondra L. Scroggins and her husband Don of Midland, VA, a sister; Audrey P. Eutzy and her husband Carl of Silver Springs, MD, a brother; Ronald G. Martin and his wife Norma of Fayetteville, fifteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren, eight great great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 22, 2010 in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc., Shippensburg at 2:00 p.m.. Officiating will be The Rev. Vernon D. Isner. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the services in the funeral home on Friday.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Menno Haven, 2075 Scotland Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201.

DAMARISCOTTA, ME: Mary Jean (Brinton) Swank, passed away at Cove's Edge Nursing Home in Damariscotta, Maine, on December 31, 2009, following a long illness.
She is survived by her loving husband, Rod William Swank of Pemaquid, Maine, whom she married in August 1950. They moved to Maine in 1984, following active careers in education in Ohio.
Mary Jean was born on November 19, 1927, in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, to Maibelle (nee Hardy) and Mark H. Brinton, and grew up in nearby Jeannette. She graduated from Jeannette High School (1946), Ohio Wesleyan University (B.A., 1950), and Kent State University (M.S., 1977). In college, she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta (social sorority), Mortar Board (leadership honorary), and Theta Alpha Phi (theatre honorary) and served as President of the YWCA. She taught English and speech, served as an elementary school librarian, and directed nearly 50 high-school plays in the Heath City Schools from 1962 to 1984. During that time, she was active in the Saturday Review Club (Utica) and Delta Kappa Gamma education honorary, and served one term as Secretary of the Ohio Federation of Women's Clubs. She and her husband were founding members of the Heath United Methodist Church.
Upon moving to Maine, Mrs. Swank became active in and eventually served as President of the Fortnightly Club, the Willing Workers, the local Delta Kappa Gamma chapter, and the Lincoln County Garden Club. She was a member of the New Harbor United Methodist Church, an active volunteer for Olde Bristol Days, and an annual participant in the Damariscotta Region Cancer Walk. She loved reading, theatre, travel, gardening, playing the piano, music, and the dogs and cats under her feet over the years. Most of all, Jean loved her husband, her daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren, and her many students, colleagues, and friends.
Mary Jean is survived by her husband, Rod Swank (Pemaquid, Maine); daughters, Constance Swank (Tacoma, Washington), Ilene Garrett (Carmel, Indiana), Kathleen Barkley (Roswell, Georgia), and Carolyn Scroggins (Madison, Alabama); sons-in-law, Dan Scroggins, Dan Barkley, and Wayne Garrett; and grandchildren, Benjamin, Chase, and Lydia Scroggins, Jordan Barkley, and David and Abigail Garrett.
One infant daughter Janice preceded her in death.
All who knew Jean were blessed by her wonderful intellect, quiet but adventuresome spirit, generous heart, and deep values. She will be missed beyond measure.
A summer 2010 memorial service to celebrate Mary Jean Brinton Swank will be held at the Harrington Cemetery. The family has requested any gifts in her name be given to the Alzheimer's Association of America.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in South Georgia Baptist Church with Bob Miller, pastor, officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Channing Cemetery by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St.
Jeffrey was born July 4, 1963, in Amarillo. He graduated from Channing High School in 1981. He worked as a loader with his dad at Western Sand and Gravel for more than 15 years. He was currently employed at Flying Star Transport as a truck driver.
He was a member of South Georgia Baptist Church.
Jeffrey was a loving husband, father, son and brother.
He married Millie Wilcox [46789] on Feb. 14, 2004, in Guymon, Okla.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Norma Scroggins [40266], in 1986, and a brother, Billy Lee Scroggins [40264], in 1995.
Survivors include his wife, Millie; a son, Callen Scroggins [46790] of Dumas; his father and stepmother, Billy J. [36067] and Dolores [36068] Scroggins of Amarillo; a brother, Erick N. Scroggins [40267] and wife Vikki [] of Pinehurst, N.C.; a sister, Jada [40269] Jackson and husband Michael [] of Amarillo; and numerous other family members.

Services for Bishop Jimmie R. Wright, age 75, of Bastrop will be 10 a.m., December 3, 2009 at East Haven Church of God in Bastrop with Bishop David Sistrunk officiating, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Rayville.
Bishop Wright pastored Church of God churches for 55 years in Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Mississippi and Georgia. He was preceded in death by wife of 46 years, Nancy Temple Wright in year 2000; parents, Alonzo and Lois Wright; sisters, Marjorie Phillips, Ozella Kyle and Miriam Ross; brother, John Wright and an infant brother and sister.

Bishop Wright pastored Church of God churches for 55 years in Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Mississippi and Georgia. He was preceded in death by wife of 46 years, Nancy Temple Wright in year 2000; parents, Alonzo and Lois Wright; sisters, Marjorie Phillips, Ozella Kyle and Miriam Ross; brother, John Wright and an infant brother and sister.

DAYTON — A 19-year-old man who was shot four times Saturday night died early Sunday morning, Nov. 22, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.
Trenton Scroggins, of Dayton, was pronounced dead at Miami Valley Hospital at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday, according to officials.
Dayton police continued Sunday to look for suspects in the shooting, which occurred about 7:48 p.m. Saturday on Willowwood Drive near Shadyside Drive.
Police received initial reports of four men chasing a male down the street and shooting at him. When they arrived at the scene, they found blood on a driveway and bullet casings on the ground, but no victim.
According to authorities, three family members and friends had already driven the victim to Good Samaritan Hospital. He was later transferred to Miami Valley.
Scroggins had had several run ins with police, including an armed robbery with a toy gun in 2007 and an arrest for public indecency in August, police and court records show. 4 times identified

Barbara Jean Goodall, age 75, of Joplin, Mo., passed away Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at St. John's Regional Medical Center following an illness. She was born May 2, 1934, in Carrollton, Ill., to Raymond E. and Wilba Mae Scroggins. She moved to Joplin, in 1974, from Carrollton. Barbara worked at Consumers Market for 12 years. She attended the Gateway Church, where she was active in youth activities and preparing meals. Barbara enjoyed quilting, playing bridge and spending time with family and friends. She married Robert E. Goodall on Jan. 31, 1952. He survives at the home. Additional survivors include four sons, Robert Goodall Jr. and wife, Annette, William Goodall and wife, Carolyn, Gordon Goodall and Jeff Goodall and wife, Susie; three daughters, Cara Odle and husband, Bob, Renee Bowman and husband, Stan and Minda Cowan and husband, Michael; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Barbara was preceded in death by one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Goodall; one granddaughter, Corey Shea Goodall; and two brothers, Raymond and Wayne Scroggins. C. A. 'Buck' Buchanan [42820]C. A. "Buck" Buchanan (aka Dad, Grandpa, and Pawpaws) went to be with his heavenly Father and loving wife, Mary, on Thursday, October 29, 2009. He was one of four children, born July 15, 1914, to Claude and Elizabeth Mae (Marler) Buchanan on the family farm in Washita County, OK. The family later relocated to Hobart, OK, where he graduated high school. He attended Harding Christian University when it was located in Morrillton, AR. While in Morrillton he met Mary Lee Scroggin. They were married August 13, 1936. Returning to Hobart, OK, Buck began his business career as manager of T.G.&Y., until he was drafted into the Navy in January, 1944. He was assigned to travel on the USS Noordam under the command of Admiral Nimatz in route to his duty station at Alea Naval Base in Honolulu, HI. After 6 weeks of boot camp upon arrival in Hawaii, he entered Com. Ser. Pac. (Command Service in the Pacific), where he was a photographer put in charge of "V" mail, putting all incoming and outgoing mail on microfilm then reprinting every piece of mail, even his personal mail, before delivery to the addressees. He received an honorable discharge on November 11, 1945. He returned to his family in Arkansas, then relocated them back to Hobart, OK and resumed employment with T.G.&Y. The family lived in Oklahoma City and Memphis, TN while still serving as a store manager. Buck eventually was promoted to Vice-President of Leasing at the T.G.&Y. Corporate office, retiring in 1979. After retirement, Buck continued his business career when he and his wife founded MACABCO, Inc. Through MACABCO Buck participated in part ownership of shopping center re-development at Perry Plaza in Perry OK, residential and townhouse development of the Brentwood Addition of Edmond, OK, and Brentwood Office Park in Edmond, OK. Buck was also instrumental in partnering and donating land for Edmond's original YMCA on Rankin in Edmond, OK. Buck also used his knowledge and experience from his business career while serving as a member and chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Oklahoma Christian Investment Corporation (OCIC), a vital force for the growth and development of Oklahoma Christian University of Science and Arts in Oklahoma City. As a director of OCIC, Buck was instrumental in the University's business development process, including construction of buildings on campus, residential areas, shopping centers (Eagle Crest Addition and Shopping Center); and Tealridge Retirement Center in Oklahoma City adjacent to Oklahoma Christian (referred to as "OC" within the family). As a friend, donor, and mentor to OC and numerous OC presidents, faculty and staff members, Buck partnered with former university president, Dr. James O. Baird, to develop a school in South Korea. Upon obtaining the blessing and approval of the South Korean government, OC instructors were sent to the school to teach English. On March 29, 1996, The University honored Buck and Mary Buchanan for their longtime involvement and support. In December, 2004, Buck received an Honorary Doctorate Degree from OC. In addition, Buck holds the distinction of being the oldest student to ever enroll for classes at OC for the fall semester of 2007. With the assistance of one of his sons as driver to and from the campus, Buck was warmly greeted by faculty, staff and fellow students as he drove his electric wheelchair from class to class. Buck was an ardent fan of the OC Eagles Basketball Program; and as an Eagles Booster Club member, maintained 2-4 season tickets through the 2007 season. Mr. Buchanan served as an elder at 31st and Penn Church of Christ in Oklahoma City, White Station Church of Christ in Memphis, TN, and was one of a small group who founded College Church of Christ in Oklahoma City, now known as Memorial Road Church of Christ, where he was a Charter Member and one of the first three original elders. Buck's philosophy regarding church responsibilities was the practice of unity and focus on next-door to worldwide missions. Prior to his moving into Gran Gran's Nursing Home in Yukon, OK, he was advising and encouraging the "planting" of the Oakdale Church of Christ in OKC. He resigned as an elder at Memorial Road in 2005 after his wife passed in December, 2004. Buck was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Lee Scroggin Buchanan [42819]; one sister, Gladys Merle Buchanan; one brother, J. B. Buchanan; and one granddaughter, April Anjeanette Buchanan. He is survived by a brother, Glen Buchanan of Benton, AR; a sister, Mae Laverne Back, of McLean, TX, sister in-law, Helen Allison and husband J.H. of Morrilton, AR; sons: Ancel Lee Buchanan and wife, Judy, of Smyrna, GA; Kenneth R. Buchanan and wife, Peggy of Oklahoma City; Albert Brent Buchanan and wife, Helga of DeLand, FL; James Baxter "Jim" Buchanan and wife, Marilyn, of Edmond, OK; and Robert Edwin "Eddie" Buchanan and wife, Kathy, of Broken Arrow, OK; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of business, church and university friends. The family requests memorials be made to In Search of the Lord's Way, P. O. Box 371, Edmond, OK 73083; Memorial Road Church of Christ Missions Program; or to Oklahoma Christian University of Science and Arts Bible Department. Mrs. Dolores Kay James Scroggin, age 65, of Dupont, Indiana, entered this life on July 31, 1944, in Scott County, Indiana. She was the daughter of Roy Vincent & Laura Eliza Layman James, both of whom preceded her in death. She was raised in Jennings County and was a 1962, graduate of Dupont High School. She attended classes for further education through her church. She was united in marriage on Sept. 6, 1963 in Commiskey to Ronald T. Scroggin. To this union arrived three sons to bless their home. The family resided in Jennings County for 21 years then moving to the Dupont Community where they resided the rest of her life. She was a faithful member of the Centerville Baptist Church near Lovett, Indiana. She enjoyed reading and studying her Bible, she loved traveling especially on train trips, working in her flowers, mowing her lawn , collecting plates and bottles. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Dolores died Sunday, October 25, 2009 at 7:25 a.m. at her home near Dupont, Indiana.

SR. RICHARD VIDRINE, O.P., died Saturday, October 17, 2009. Sr. Richard was born May 28, 1913, to the late Homer and Alice Juliat Vidrine. She entered the Dominican Sisters of Houston on September 7, 1930. She was preceded in death by her siblings Estelle, Wallace, Matilda, Jeannette, Bernice [4338], and Emily. She is survived by her nephews and nieces Robert Guillet (Betty Lou), Jerry Scroggins [4340] (Pat [4341]), Barbara Nilsson [4344] (Nils [32153]), Richard Scroggins [4345] (Cheryl []), Ronald Balsam, Rita Hokanson (Ronald), Neil Balsam (Beth), Raymond Balsam (Sedie), Charles Vidrine (Ercyl), and Emma Vidrine. Sister ministered as a teacher and principal in St. Mary School (Port Arthur), St. Anthony Elementary and High School (Beaumont), St. Mary (Taylor), Holy Rosary, St. Mary, St. Augustine (Houston), Sacred Heart (Galveston), Our Lady (Sulphur, LA), St. Francis de Sales (Riverside, CA), St. Elizabeth (Port Neches), and Sacred Heart (Austin). After retirement Sister continued her prayer ministry at St. Dominic Villa. Sister's body will be welcomed at St. Dominic Villa, 6504 Almeda Road, on Wednesday, October 21, at 4:00 p.m. Vigil of Christian Burial is scheduled at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, October 22, at 10:00 a.m., Rev. Isidore Vicente, O.P., presiding. All services are at St. Dominic Villa. She became a certified Registered Nurse, fulfilling a lifelong dream and worked at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville for 26 years. She was a faithful member of Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church and also served as a volunteer for C.A.S.A. On Aug. 14, 1993, she married Santos Barron. Lela Estell Hammons Scroggins, age 87, died October 12, 2009 at MS Baptist Health Center in Jackson, Mississippi.
She was born June 24, 1922 in Wesson, MS to Hattie Delilah Harrison and Eugene Newton Hammons. Lela was a descendant of the Daniel Beasley family, listed in the first families of Mississippi, who came to Mississippi in 1830 from Darlington County, South Carolina and settled in Simpson County. She grew up in Wesson, MS until her family moved to Yazoo County, MS, where she met her husband, married, and later moved to Hinds County. Lela was married for 59 years to Bob Scroggins [37239], a Jackson homebuilder, who predeceased her in 1996. She lived in Jackson for over 50 years, before moving to The Hills of Crossgates in Rankin County. Lela and Bob maintained a large vegetable garden for the benefit of family, friends, neighbors, and the needy. Lela and Bob were members of the Jackson Rose Society and the Mississippi Rose Society. Their rose garden contained hundreds of roses, having raised them for competition, winning hundreds of blue ribbons. Lela and Bob donated their roses to civic organizations and churches, and always had fresh bouquets for their many friends. After Bob died, Lela moved to The Waterford Retirement Home for several years and lived at Highland Home Nursing Home for the past two years. Lela's hobbies included crossword puzzles, crochet, stitchery (embroidery and crewel), and spending time with her large family.
Lela is survived by her four children: Bobbie Bryan (Bob) of Stillwater, OK; Midge Samsel (Howard) of Brandon, MS; Roland Scroggins (Annette) of Brandon, MS; and Billie Thompson (Tommy) of Brandon, MS. She is also survived by her 13 grandchildren: Steve Bryant (Carol) of Madison, MS; Michelle Gilliland (Jud) of Dallas, TX; Gina Nichols (John) of Plano, TX; Lisa Garza of San Antonio, TX; Stacy Ramsey of Madison, MS; Kimberly Gordon (Charlie) of Tyler, TX; Dawn McAuley (Mac) of Pontotoc, MS; Paige Sessums (Craig) of Jackson, MS; Leanne Pettit (Matt) of Irving, TX; Tiffiney Henderson (Evan) of Brandon, MS; Kristin Kerley (Kevin) of Meridian, MS; Cory Thompson (Shauna) of Brandon, MS; and Josh Thompson (Loni) of Austin, TX. Terry Dean Scroggins of Frostproof passed away Monday, October 5, 2009 at his residence.
He was born December 23, 1960 in Lake Wales to Jerrell Dean and Betty Ann (Wise) Scroggins; and moved to Frostproof from Phoenix, AZ in 1973. He was self-employed as a truck driver, and is of the Pentecostal faith. He loved drag racing, reading western books, watching western movies and watching wrestling.
Terry was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Scroggins Saiz. Survivors include his wife Pamela Scroggins, daughters, Jennifer Lynn McElroy of Alabama, Betty Fay Marie Scroggins of Frostproof, Misty Michelle Kirk of Frostproof; sons, Thomas Earl Scroggins of Graceville, FL, Bama Wayne Scroggins of Graceville, FL, Mark Anthony Poe of Frostproof, Carlos Richard Poe of Frostproof; brothers, Tommy Scroggins of Phonix City, AL, Kerry Dale Scroggins of Samson, AL, Mark Saiz of Frostproof, Robin Saiz of Jupiter, FL; and 12 grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 10:00 AM, Friday, October 9, 2009 at Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Frostproof, with interment following at Silver Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM, Thursday, October 8, 2009. For those who wish, contributions may be made to the Moffitt Cancer Center.

Cynthia J. Smith [49603]SMITH Cynthia J, 67, of Lexington, went home to be with the Lord Fri, Oct 2, 2009 at the St. Joseph Hospice Care Center. Born in Lincoln, IL, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Mildred Olson Stolz. Cynthia was a registered nurse at the University of Kentucky Medical Center for 34 years, having worked in the emergency room and then retiring from the Major Holding Room. A member of Centenary United Methodist Church, she was a member of the Stonewall Book Club, volunteered at "Best Friends - " and she was a member of Citizens Police Academy #27 in Lexington, KY. Cynthia loved to travel, her favorite place being Sedona, AZ and another love of hers was dogs. She is survived by her children, Brad [49604] (Marta) [49605] Scroggin and Carnee Ashley [49606], both of Lexington; five grandchildren, Meredith [49609], Brandon [49610], Shelby [49611] and Sloan Scroggin [49612] and Lauren Ashley [49608]; numerous cousins; best friend, Susan Tack-Adams and other close friends. A special thanks to Kathryn Hoagland as well as Centenary United Methodist Church Food Ministry and all who brought their dogs to visit Cynthia during her illness. Cynthia's family would like to express sincere appreciation for all those who helped her during her illness, especially Hospice of the Bluegrass. Funeral services will be 11am Tue at Centenary United Methodist Church by Associate Pastor Jeff Carter. Visitation will be 5-9pm Mon at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Rd. Ira Thomas "Mr. Tom" McManus, age 82, of Long Beach, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 30, 2009.
He was born and raised in Crystal Springs, MS. He was a graduate of Crystal Springs High School. He joined the Navy and served during World War II in the Asia Pacific. He was a life member of Eddie Blake V.F.W. Post #3937, Long Beach, MS. He also served as Commander of Robert C. Nail Post 687, Jackson, MS and Post 407 DeLisle.
He had 57 years as a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 903, Gulfport, MS, where he served one term as president.
He was a member of Shepherds Way Church, Long Beach, MS. He dearly loved his church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira Lee McManus and Mary Mertie McManus; 2 brothers, Walter and James McManus; stepdaughter, Barbara Nell Scroggins [43764]; and step-grandson, Tom Garcia; and son-in-law, Cleveland (Bud) Garcia.
He is survived by his loving wife and soulmate, Olene W. McManus of Long Beach; daughter, Linda Garcia of Gulfport; son Thomas Gilbert McManus; grandson, Thomas Lee McManus; granddaughters, Crystal Shrmetta and her husband Ken Shrmetta, Misty Lee McManus; great grandchildren, Kadin, Katelynn, Timothy and Luke; step-grandchildren, Donald Griffin Scroggins, Jr. [46401], Kenneth W. Knight, and Steven Lee Green; step-son in law, Donald G. Scroggins, Sr. [44264]; brother, Clarence (Cathy) McManus of Georgetown, MS; sister Helen Sojourner of Gallman, MS.
He loved gardening and fishing and once said he asked God for a little corner of Adam and Eve's garden.
He was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. The family wants to thank friends L.J. and Peggy Pritchard for all their help during his illness.

Mr. Hewatt served his country as a US Marine, worked for 30 years at Avon, and most recently worked for 8 years at Wal-Mart. He is survived by his wife of 44 years Linda Hewatt; daughters Sheila Nelson and son in law Danny of Woodstock, Laura Sukalac of Arizona, Marcee Scroggins of Dawsonville; sisters Linda Key of Douglasville, Dotti Jones of Maysville; grandchildren Daniel and Brandy Scroggins, Coral and Cyanea Nelson; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives; and many friends. She was born on December 22, 1961, in Westerly, RI and was the daughter of Louise (Tedone) Noone of Berlin, and the late Harry Scroggins. Ellen was the Executive Director for the Boys & Girls Club of SECT for 1 1/2 years. She loved to cook for her family and friends, and enjoyed her trips to the beach. She will be remembered as an individual who devoted her time and effort to helping others through the various organizations she was affiliated with. She will be deeply missed. Besides her mother, she leaves two sons, Jameson Nordberg of Old Lyme and Leif Nordberg [FB?] of Cupertino, CA; her sister, Sharon Brunetti [FB?] and her husband, Donald of Hamden; a brother, Jeffrey Scroggins and his wife, Carmella of Westerly, RI; five nieces; and a sister-in-law, Joan McCrea [FB?] of Westerly, RI. HUGHEN Carl E. Hughen a native of Milton, Fl. And resident of Grand Bay, Al. died Friday, September 25, 2009 at his home. He served in the US Navy during WWII, 93rd CB3 Batallion. He was a member of S.B. Adams Lodge No. 884 F&AM, a former member of Scottish Rite, a member of Abba Temple and Oddfellow. Mr. Hughen retired from ALCOA in 1976 after 36 years. He was preceded in death by his wife Clotiel Hughen. Survivors include his 2 daughters; Carolyn [21656] (Tony) Johnson, Frances Carol Hughen (Thomas), 4 grandchildren; Michelle Hughen Johnson, Shannon Scroggins [21659], Roy D. Scroggins [21660] and Michael James Hughen [21658], 11 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at 12noon from Higher Ground Baptist Church following a visitation from 10am until service time. Helen M. Bain, age 86 of Portage passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on September 19, 2009. She was born April 14, 1923 in Duquesne, PA where she married William "Bill" Bain in 1942. He preceded her in death on November 27, 1999. She is survived by 3 daughters Donna Bain of Portage, Cheryl Scroggins and Shelley (Stephen) Williams both of Hobart; six grandchildren Christopher (Jessica) Williams and Jeffrey (Cindy) Scroggins of Hobart, Eddie Scroggins and Aaron Milevsky of Portage, Lori (Paul) Lindblad of VA and Tony (Nikki) Milevsky of CA; six great-grandchildren Alexandra [49106] and Arielle [49185] Scroggins, Isabella and Odin Williams all of Hobart and Alino and Max Milevsky of CA; one sister Margaret Chayhitz of Valparaiso and many nieces and nephews. Helen M. Bain, age 86 of Portage passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on September 19, 2009. She was born April 14, 1923 in Duquesne, PA where she married William "Bill" Bain in 1942. He preceded her in death on November 27, 1999. She is survived by 3 daughters Donna Bain of Portage, Cheryl Scroggins and Shelley (Stephen) Williams both of Hobart; six grandchildren Christopher (Jessica) Williams and Jeffrey (Cindy) Scroggins of Hobart, Eddie Scroggins and Aaron Milevsky of Portage, Lori (Paul) Lindblad of VA and Tony (Nikki) Milevsky of CA; six great-grandchildren Alexandra [49106] and Arielle [49185] Scroggins, Isabella and Odin Williams all of Hobart and Alino and Max Milevsky of CA; one sister Margaret Chayhitz of Valparaiso and many nieces and nephews. A private funeral service was held at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso on September 25, 2009. Pastor Rick Hayden officiated. Martel Scroggin, a retired advertising agency executive and novelist, died September 20, 2009, at home of cancer. He was 80.
Scroggin, a member of Crook County High Schools Class of 1948, had a ranch east of Prineville on the Ochoco Ranger Station Road. He wrote three fiction-based-on -fact book about the history and development of Central Oregon. All three books; Wasco, The Moonlighters, and The Sheepshooters, were taped and distributed by the National Library and the Library of Congress for the blind and physically handicapped. The Sheepshooters was the first novel written that covered the violent cattle-sheep wars that ran from 1886 to 1906.
He started his advertising career in San Francisco with Batten, Barton, Durstine and Osborn, where he was the account executive for the U.S. Steel and Pacific Gas & Electric accounts. In 1958, he left BBDO to become a co-founder of Allen, De St. Maurice & Scroggin. Nine years later, he founded the agency that was to become Scroggin & Fisher, handling such accounts as the San Francisco Examiner, Chevron, China Airlines, Fairchild semiconductor, Otis and NEC corporation. After his retirement, his company was acquired by Batten, Barton, Durstine & Osborn, the ad agency where he got his start.
Scroggin served on the board of directors of the Transworld Advertising Agency Network (TAAN), a group of agencies throughout the world He became the only chairman in the history of this organization to be re-elected for four consecutive terms and travelled extensively - often with his family - to help build the total membership to 40 worldwide members.
He received a degree in Journalism from the University of Oregon, where he was president of his fraternity, Phi Kappa Sigma, and was a Korean War veteran. He served on the steering committee for the Friends of Radiology at Stanford, and was an active member of The Family Club and the Crook County Historical Society. Other memberships included the Hoover Institution, BPOE and Western Writers of America.
His wife, Gretchen, preceded him in death in 1989. He is survived by his daughters, Leslie and Wendy, a son, Jeff, and five grandchildren.
Arrangements are in the care of the Prineville Funeral Home.
