James Donald Harvey "Goober" Pruitt, Sr., 67, of Hendersonville, died suddenly Friday, Oct. 9, 2009. Born Oct. 21, 1941, in Hendersonville, he was the son of the late Harvey and Beulah Ledbetter Pruitt.

He retired from Kimberly-Clark in 2002 as a machine operator and was a member of Living Water Baptist Church. He was a volunteer fireman for over 14 years with Valley Hill Volunteer Fire Department and also a volunteer clown with Caasi and Clowns of Glory. He was a care giver for his mother-in-law, Rose Ella Scroggins [21086] and will be remember as a very caring and giving person.

He is survived by the mother of his children, Betty J. Pruitt, of Hendersonville; six children, James Harvey Donald Pruitt, Jr., of Hendersonville, Edward Eugene Pruitt and wife Elizabeth, of Hendersonville, Donna P. Almaraz and husband John, of Demopolis, Ala., Richard Jack Pruitt and wife Heather, of Chilhowie, Va.; Darlene P. Robbins and husband Joseph, of Navarre, Fla., Debra P. Zeman and husband James, of Louisville, Ky.; a brother, Larry Boone, of Hendersonville; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Marie Scroggins Pruitt [45129].

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, at Living Water Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Pace and the Rev. Mike Stewart officiating. The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, at Thos. Shepherd & Son.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Caasi and the Clowns of Glory, c/o Living Water Baptist Church, 1284 Sugarloaf Rd,, Hendersonville, NC28792.
