Patsy C. Busker

Of Long Neck, DE, formerly of Smyrna, DE, passed away at the home of her son, Glenn L. Busker of Millsboro, Delaware. She was 94.

Mrs. Busker was born September 19, 1914 in Bayview, VA, the daughter of the late William W. and Helena Torbert Collins. She worked as a head teller for several years, retiring from Mellon Bank. Mrs. Busker was a member of the Century Club and Asbury United Methodist Church both in Smyrna and attended Long Neck Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Busker was preceded in death her husband, Glenn W. Busker in 1995; 4 sisters, Annie Snow, Nina Collins, Willye Carter and Helen Colberg and a brother, James Robert Collins. In addition to her son, Glenn, she is survived by 2 granddaughters, Deb Scroggin and her husband, Don of Allison, IA and Robyn Bahlmann and her husband, Troy of Charles City, IA; a step granddaughter, Laura Say and her husband Chuck Say Jr. of Willard, MD; a brother, John W. Collins of Hampton, VA; a sister, Virginia Del Maynard of Williamsburg, VA and her great-grandchildren, Brock, Taylor, Britni, Erin, Tyler, Trace, Gavin and Tanner.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Nancy and Sara from VITAS Hospice.

Services will be Thursday November 20, at 1 pm, in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, DE where friends may call one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery Smyrna, DE.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to VITAS Healthcare Corp., 100 Commerce Drive, Suite 302, Newark, DE 19713.

Message: [Jason, Abbye, Jake, Payton Scroggins] Mr. George Richardson Brown ANNISTON — Funeral services for Mr. George Richardson Brown Sr., 88, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Gray Brown Service Chapel with the Rev. Robert Hurst and the Rev. Wayne Stephens officiating. Burial will follow at Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends at Gray Brown Service from 6-8 this evening. Mr. Brown died Monday, November 17, 2008, at his residence. Survivors include his daughter, Sharon Payne and husband, Coley, of Anniston; daughter-in-law, Lisa Brown, of Jacksonville; grandchildren, Heath Payne and wife, Alicia, Heather Payne, Abbye Scroggins and husband, Kerry, Katye Brown and husband, Jason; great-grandchildren, Jake Scroggins, Payton Scroggins, Chloe Payne, Lacy Hauk; and sisters, Willie Mae Avery and Dot Underwood, of Greer, S.C. and also several nieces and nephews. Mr. Brown is preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. Brown; son, George R. "Rick" Brown Jr.; parents, Nelson and Effie Brown; brother, Malcolm Jones; and sister, Betty Jean Ross. Special thanks to Brenda Whittle, Rheta Cobb, Barbara Johnson with New Beacon Hospice and special caregivers Lisa Brown and Abbye Scroggins. Mr. Brown Came to Anniston in 1947 to play baseball for the Anniston Rams and met the love of his life, Mary E. Reid at Scarbrough's Drug Store and were married on October 30, 1948. He later played minor league ball for the Texas League and Shthe Reveport. He was a well know umpire at Norwood and Campbell Field for the little league and also served as an umpire for the Anniston High School baseball in the mid 1950s and early 1960s. Then Mr. Brown went to work at M&H Valve in 1956 until he retired. Mr. Brown was also a member of World War II 206th Military Police Co. in Central Europe from 1942-1945. Flowers will be accepted or donations to New Beacon Hospice. Pallbearers are Jimmy Wood, Kenny Ross, Mike Reid, Bill Dobbs, Heath Payne, Blake Tippett and Honorary pallbearer will be J.D. Brown. Martin Edward Hamilton

Message: Martin Edward Hamilton Martin Edward Hamilton Martin Edward Hamilton entered into eternal rest on Friday, November 16, 2007 at his residence in Lakeway, Texas He was born in Purcell, Oklahoma on March 20, 1913 but lived most of his life in Texas. He is survived by his wife Mary Elizabeth (Betty), to whom he was married for 64 years. Their children and spouses include Martin Edward Hamilton III and wife Vaness, Carolyn Hamilton Cole and husband Jerry, William Barnes Hamilton and wife Glenna. Other immediate family members include his sister, Sybil Rice, and his grandchildren William B. Hamilton Jr., Ashley Hamilton Elliott, Christina Cole, Lori Cole Scrogin, and Drew Barnett-Hamilton. He was a graduate of Lubbock High School, and while a member of the school debate team won the state championship for his debating ability. As a young man at Texas Tech his desire to become a lawyer was interrupted when he was seriously injured in an automobile accident. Times were difficult and in order to make a living he went to work at a CCC Camp. Early on he knew working in the hot sun building roads was not his preference and when he heard the camp commissary needed someone to manage it he quickly volunteered. His ingenuity established him as a born salesman and this would be the career path he would follow. In the field of education he was well respected as the owner of the Houston territory for Balfour Company, the manufacturer of graduation rings. Later he joined forces with his friend William J. Taylor Jr. as a co-owner of Taylor Publishing Company in Dallas and today that company is known nationally for providing yearbooks to high schools and colleges. Martin often said he never felt he was working because he enjoyed what he did and his customers became life long friends. He came from modest circumstances but early in life developed a strong work ethic that would later afford he and his wife the opportunity to pursue many philanthropic endeavors. They established the Martin and Betty Hamilton Endowment in Cardiology at UTMB Galveston, the Dr. Herbert M. Seybold Scholarship Fund at UTMB Galveston honoring their dear friend Dr. Herbert Seybold, The President's Scholarship Fund at Texas A&M College Station, Shreiner Institute Educational Scholarship fund at Kerrville and numerous other things in the field of education. They were faithful supporters of the Cultural Arts in Galveston, the Galveston Historical Foundation, Our Daily Bread and Trinity Episcopal Church. He remembered as a young man what it was to do without and in later years he willingly responded to people he knew who were in need. At various times Mr. Hamilton served on the Board of Directors for Keystone International (now known as Tyco International), Adams Laboratories, Sterling Bank, Baylor Laboratories and Shriners Burns Hospital. He was a partner in Big Three Enterprise Leasing in Dallas, and participated in various investments in real estate and the oil and gas industries. While living in Houston he was Senior Warden of the Vestry at St. Martin's Episcopal Church. In 2004 he and his wife relocated to Lakeway, Texas to be near their children and transferred their church affiliation to St. Luke's on the Lake Episcopal Church. Mr. Hamilton was member of the Masonic Order and a Shriner. For twenty years he maintained an investment office in Galveston. The office was a gathering place for his retired buddies and each Monday was designated "Lunch Day at Casey's". Martin Hamilton took pride in his family and was dedicated to providing for their future. When Alzheimer's Disease became an invasive factor in has day-to-day living his children responded by giving back to him generous amounts of the love and care he had always shared with each of them. The family welcomes family and friends to a service at St. Luke's on the Lake at 10:00 in the morning on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 with Reverend Mike Wycoff officiating. Arrangements for interment at Trinity Episcopal Church in Galveston with Reverend Ron Pogue officiating are pending. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to Alzheimer's Association or the charity of one's choice. The family would like to thank Jean Tholcken for her dedication to Martin and the family for 20 years of service. JOHNSON, Astrid C. Astrid C. Johnson, 87, of Madison, died Sunday (November 9, 2008). She was the wife of the late Eugene C. Johnson. She was born in Arendal, Norway on July 30, 1921, to Halvor and Magda Baasland Gjertsen. At the age of six, she immigrated to the U.S. with her parents and two brothers. Astrid grew up in Brooklyn, NY. After marrying Gene, she lived in New Britain and Newington. In 1948, they built a summer cottage in Madison. In 1973, Astrid and Gene made Madison their full-time residence. Astrid was a long-time member of the Bethany Covenant Church of New Britain and the First Congregational Church of Madison. Astrid served her community through participation in Meals on Wheels and was an active member of the Guilford Garden Club where she pursued her lifetime enjoyment of flowers. Astrid leaves behind four children: Barbara Farmer of Leawood, KS, Brenda Scrogin [47448] and son-in-law, Colonel (Ret) Thomas Scrogin [47557] of Niceville, FL, Kristine Glass of Madison, and Ronald Johnson of North Branford; three grandchildren: Jasen Farmer of Edgewater, MD, Corey Farmer of Austin, TX and Courtney Farmer of Tampa, FL. Her great granddaughter, Leilani Emma was born on 11/29/07. Private services were held on Thursday, November 13, at Swan Funeral Home, Madison. Mr. Scroggins, 68, of Natchitoches, La., died Monday, November 10, 2008, in his residence at Powhatan, La. He was a native of Flora, La. He was retired from The Department of Agriculture and Forestry for the State of Louisiana and a cattleman and rancher. He was a member of New Testament Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Brent Scroggins; great grandson, Trey Chandler; parents John William Scroggins and Ouida Longlois Scroggins; father-in-law, Lucien Cox and mother-in-law, Annie Riddle Cox. SULLIVAN -- E. Izola Fitzgerald Davis, 90, of Sullivan departed her life on earth to rejoin her husband, Harold F. Fitzgerald, who left us on January 14, 1985. Izola was born in Findlay, on May 13, 1918, the daughter of Ester Scroggins, farmer, and Margaret Ringo Scroggins, homemaker. She was raised in Bethany, graduated from Bethany High School, and married the love of her life, Harold Fitzgerald, on November 28, 1939. In 1940, Harold and Izola began the business of Fitzgerald Insurance Agency, located in Bethany, and ran the business as co-owners for many years, before passing the reins over to their son and grandson. Their business remains family owned and operated. Izola was an avid bridge player for over 75 years. In addition, she enjoyed her family, cooking, fishing, dancing, listening to Lawrence Welk, and playing golf. Her meaning in life came from helping to raise her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In 1990, very soon after the birth of her first great-grandchild, Izola married Horace "Hice" Davis, in Sullivan, where they lived together until his death. Her family will always remember her famous apple pies and chocolate cakes, her comfortable lap and warm embrace, and her tirelessness in playing cards and Scrabble with her grandchildren. Left behind with these memories are her sister, Valria Candage, her daughter and best friend, Imogene Fitzgerald, her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Marilyn Fitzgerald, her grandchildren, Mike and Gina Fitzgerald, Michelle and Ray Preiksaitis, and Margaret and Mark Dieringer, and her precious great-grandchildren, Ken Preiksaitis, Kristy and Christopher Stewart, Joe Wheeler, Sean and Wesley Robinson, and Anna, Grant and Reid Dieringer. A private burial will be held for immediate family, as per the wishes of Izola. She will be buried next to her husband, Harold Fitzgerald, in the family plot at St. Isidore's Cemetery, Bethany. In addition, she enjoyed her family, cooking, fishing, dancing, listening to Lawrence Welk, and playing golf. Her meaning in life came from helping to raise her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In 1990, very soon after the birth of her first great-grandchild, Izola married Horace "Hice" Davis, in Sullivan, where they lived together until his death. Her family will always remember her famous apple pies and chocolate cakes, her comfortable lap and warm embrace, and her tirelessness in playing cards and Scrabble with her grandchildren. Left behind with these memories are her sister, Valria Candage, her daughter and best friend, Imogene Fitzgerald, her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Marilyn Fitzgerald, her grandchildren, Mike and Gina Fitzgerald, Michelle and Ray Preiksaitis, and Margaret and Mark Dieringer, and her precious great-grandchildren, Ken Preiksaitis, Kristy and Christopher Stewart, Joe Wheeler, Sean and Wesley Robinson, and Anna, Grant and Reid Dieringer. A private burial will be held for immediate family, as per the wishes of Izola. She will be buried next to her husband, Harold Fitzgerald, in the family plot at St. Isidore's Cemetery, Bethany. He was a member of Waples Memorial United Methodist Church and a member of the Billie Mosse Masonic Lodge 1152 and the Scottish Rites. He started Jack Smart Realty Co. in 1947. He led a strong spiritual life and always took a lot of pride in his honesty. Survivors include sons, Jack Gregory Smart of Sherman, Jeffrey D. Smart and wife Renee of Denison and Larry Roger Smart and wife Maggie of McKinney and one daughter, Karla Stern and husband Dennis of Washington, Michigan. Message: Toni Ann Nevis-Scrogin Toni Ann Nevis-Scrogin March 12, 1966-February 29, 2008 On February 29, 2008 a vibrant, tenacious young woman's life was suddenly taken away from us. Born Toni Ann Nevis on March 12, 1966. She was the wife of Garrot Scrogin, and devoted mother of J.D. Scrogin, Tyler Morehead and Samantha Scrogin, daughter of Dan and Nancy Nevis of Yuba City, sister of Dan Nevis Jr. of Napa, Joe Nevis of Yuba City and CiCi Nunes of Atascadero. Toni was also a fun loving adventurous aunt and cousin to many. Toni was a very gregarious person who lived life to the fullest each day. There wasn't a person that ever met her that wouldn't have a story to tell about their encounter. She was very active in our local community, volunteering her time with many organizations and for numerous philanthropic events. In particular, she was a cheerleading coach for Sutter Jr. Huskies, a softball coach for Live Oak Area Little League and an active participant in local 4-H projects. She was also a partner in Two Chix Plantation. Toni was known for her willingness to always help others no matter the task or need. Family and friends were an integral part of her daily life as she always took the time to find out how their lives were going and loved to plan gatherings to celebrate any and all occasions. Toni was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Alfred Edward and Carrie Ann Nevis and her maternal grandparents A.C. & Vera Presley. She was loved by many and will be missed by all. Please join our family in a Celebration of Life at her family home at 2964 Encinal Road, Live Oak, California. A eulogy will be given by Tom Hill at 2 pm. Message: E. Dudley Scrogin SCROGIN, E. DUDLEY, 91, died September 3, 2008 at his home in Bradenton, FL. He was born in Bradenton and graduated from Bradenton (now Manatee) High School in 1935. He attended the University of Florida 1935-1938, receiving an Associates of Arts Degree. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1941 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Mr. Scrogin was a retired Professional Engineer and a retired Commander, USNR. He was a Fellow Member of Florida Engineering Society, Myakka Chapter, Past President of the Florida Engineering Society, Miami Chapter, a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, a Life Member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and a Life Member of the Military Officers Association of America, Bradenton Chapter. He went on active duty in the Navy as Ensign, USNR in October 1941 at the U. S. Naval Station, Key West, FL where he was Officer in Charge of the Diesel Engine Repair Shop. He married Jean Hitchcolk of Bradenton May 27, 1943. In January 1944 Lieutenant Scrogin was transferred to the South Pacific, serving as Assistant Force Maintenance Officer, Purvis Bay, Solomon Islands until April 1945. From May to September 1945 he was Officer-in- Charge of Landing Craft Repair Base #2, Russell Islands, South Pacific. He stayed active in the Naval Reserves and his last position was as Commanding Officer, Naval Reserve Research Company 6-39, Miami, FL. He retired as Commander, USNR in 1977. The majority of his civilian career was spent in the supervision of operations and maintenance of power plants for Florida Power and Light Company, retiring in Miami, FL November 1980 after more than 33 years with that company. He and his wife, returned to Bradenton in 1991. His wife of 53 years, Jean Hitchcolk Scrogin, died on September 3, 1996. He is survived by his companion Priscilla B. Gryder, daughters Suzanne (Ralph) Coley of Cohasset, MA, Catherine (Mark) Bir of Fort Myers, FL and foster daughter Karen (David) Paterno of Melbourne, FL;six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Message: Althea Gander Fox ALTHEA GANDER FOX 1915-2008 On October 16, 2008, after a lengthy illness, Althea G. Fox, age 92, went home to the Lord. Althea was born November 13, 1915 and raised in East Pensacola Heights. She was a member of the first class to attend Annie K. Sutter Elementary in East Pensacola Heights. She was the daughter of Joseph Warren Gander and Margaret Ida Ditto. Althea was the youngest and last surviving child of the seven children of Joseph and Margaret Gander. Althea retired at the age of 71 as office manager of Abbot Oil Company. She was preceded in death by all her brothers and sisters; Erma Scroggin, Victor Gander, Frank Gander, Ruth Broxton, Pauline Jernigan and Paul Gander. She was married to the late Lawrence (Larry) Fox for thirty-one (31) years. Larry predeceased her on June 5, 1971. She is survived by her son John Fox and daughter-in-law Cheryl Fox. She has two grandsons and their wives, Eric Charles Fox and Tiffany Fox and John Alexander (Alex) Fox and Carrie Fox. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews within the Pensacola area. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 20, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in the St. Paul Catholic Church on Hyde Park Road with Father John Lacari as the Celebrant. Charlotte Fisk, 72, of Middlebury, Vermont died peacefully on October 13, 2008. Daughter of Earl Ellsworth Fisk [36540] and Florence Leavitt Fisk [31748], she was born and raised in Green Bay, Wisconsin. She attended Northwestern University where she studied drama, and then transferred to Rollins College. She moved to New Vernon, NJ with her family where she raised her children and ran her own business. In 1976 her family relocated to Vermont where they owned a farm in Cornwall. In more recent years, she was a resident of Middlebury, Vermont.

Charlotte was an amazing quilter and handcrafter, and shared this gift with many people over the years. Owner of Charlotte’s Web in Bernardsville, NJ and later Charlotte’s Collections in Middlebury, Vermont, she was also selected during the Clinton Administration to hang an ornament she created on the While House Christmas tree. Charlotte was active in the Milk and Honey Quilter’s Guild of Middlebury, and played many key roles in that group. In recent years she took the lead in coordinating volunteers to make quilts for soldiers injured in the war in Iraq. She will also be remembered for her service on the Middlebury Volunteer Ambulance Squad, as someone with strong political convictions who served as a role model to many in advocating for women’s rights, her love for the dogs she adopted from the Humane Society over the years, and her passion for football as demonstrated by her support of the Green Bay Packers and the Middlebury Tigers. Charlotte fought many health battles over the years and amazed everyone with her ability to defy the medical odds, continuing to live independently, engaged in her local community and spending time with her family and her many wonderful friends. She will be remembered for her creative talents, compassion, sense of humor, and her positive attitude in even the most difficult of times.

Charlotte was predeceased by her half-brother William Fisk [36600] of DePere, Wisconsin. She is survived by her two children, William B. Astor [47197], and G. Todd Astor [], of Essex Junction, Vermont, his wife, Robin Rhodes Astor [], and Charlotte’s three adoring grandchildren, Alexandra [], Rebecca [], and Stephen []. She is also survived by her half-brother George Fisk [14762] in St. Joseph, Michigan, seven nieces and nephews, and many great-nieces and nephews.

?Charlotte was an amazing quilter and handcrafter, and shared this gift with many people over the years.? Owner of Charlotte?s Web in Bernardsville, N.J., and later Charlotte?s Collections in Middlebury, Vt., she was also selected during the Clinton Administration to hang an ornament she created on the While House Christmas tree. Charlotte was active in the Milk and Honey Quilter?s Guild of Middlebury, and played many key roles in that group.? In recent years she took the lead in coordinating volunteers to make quilts for soldiers injured in the war in Iraq.? She will also be remembered for her service on the Middlebury Volunteer Ambulance Squad, as someone with strong political convictions who served as a role model to many in advocating for women?s rights, her love for the dogs she adopted from the Humane Society over the years, and her passion for football as demonstrated by her support of the Green Bay Packers and the Middlebury Tigers.? Charlotte fought many health battles over the years and amazed everyone with her ability to defy the medical odds, continuing to live independently, engaged in her local community and spending time with her family and her many wonderful friends.?? She will be remembered for her creative talents, compassion, sense of humor, and her positive attitude in even the most difficult of times.?
?Charlotte was predeceased by her half-brother William Fisk of DePere, Wis.? She is survived by her two children, William B. Astor, and G. Todd Astor, of Essex Junction, Vt., his wife, Robin Rhodes Astor, and Charlotte?s three adoring grandchildren, Alexandra, Rebecca, and Stephen.? She is also survived by her half-brother George Fisk in St. Joseph, Mich., seven nieces and nephews, and many great-nieces and nephews.

Vicky Lynn Scroggins, age 51, of Tekonsha, Michigan died suddenly on October 4, 2008. She was preceded in death by her mother Cynthia Whiteley. She leaves behind two sons Chris Hurst and wife Tracie, of Athens, and Mark Scroggins and fiancé Teresa of Union City. Nelson, age 98, of Webb City, Mo., passed away at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, at Freeman Hospital East in Joplin, following a two month illness. Herschel was born Feb. 28, 1910, in Enid, Okla., and graduated from Galena, Kan., High School in 1929. From 1948 until 1995, he lived in Roxana, Ill., where he was employed as a carpenter for Shell Oil Co. He retired in 1972, and moved to Webb City in 1995. Following his retirement he attended art school and became an artist. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, of Joplin. He was active with the Webb City Senior Citizens and was involved with the Meals on Wheels program. His hobbies included bowling and golf. He was proud of the fact that he made a hole in one playing golf at the age of 94. Herschel married Theresa Glen Nelson Aug. 15, 1942, in Denver, Colo. She preceded him in death on May 9, 2006. Survivors include one son, Robert Nelson and wife, Gay, Seneca, Mo.; one daughter, Joann Burkhart, Cottonwood Falls, Kan.; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Urbach and Bonita Scroggins [29631?]; and a niece, Jean Aton. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Hedge-Lewis Chapel with Rev. Louise Reed, officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Private burial will be in the Burkhart Cemetery in Racine, Mo. BURLINGTON - William Astor, 73, of Burlington, died peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008. Son of John Astor [] and his beloved mother, Ellen Tuck French [], Bill was born on July 19, 1935 in New York City. He grew up in New York City and spent his summers as a child in Newport, Rhode Island. He graduated from Saint Paul's School in New Hampshire and Rollins College in Florida. Following college, he and his family moved to New Vernon, N.J. where he gave many years of service to the New Vernon Fire Department serving as president from 1972 - 1974. Bill moved with his family to Cornwall, Vt. where he owned and managed a family farm. In his later years, Bill moved to Burlington, to be closer to his children and grandchildren and also to receive the medical attention he needed. Despite his illness, Bill remained a stoic and independent person, always maintaining a great sense of humor and the ability to make people smile and laugh in even the most difficult of circumstances. He will be remembered for his strength, humor, generosity and his wonderful storytelling abilities. Bill is survived by his two sons, William Astor [47197], and G. Todd Astor [], of Essex Junction; his wife, Robin []; and their three grandchildren, Alexandra Ellen [], Rebecca Charlotte [] and Stephen William [] who will miss Grandpa tremendously. He is also survived by his sister, Jacqueline Astor Drexel [] of New York and her son Nicholas []. In respect to Bill's wishes, there will be no service to celebrate his life. BURLINGTON — William Astor, 73, of Burlington died on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008. He was born July 19, 1935 in New York City, the son of John Astor and Ellen Tuck French.

He grew up in New York City and spent his summers as a child in Newport, R.I. He graduated from Saint Paul’s School in New Hampshire and Rollins College in Florida. Following college, he and his family moved to New Vernon, N.J., where he worked at the New Vernon Fire Department, serving as president from 1972 to 1974.

He moved with his family to Cornwall, where he owned and managed a family farm. In his later years, he moved to Burlington to be closer to his children and grandchildren and also to receive the medical attention he needed.

According to family, he remained a stoic and independent person in spite of his illness, always maintaining a great sense of humor and the ability to make people smile and laugh in even the most difficult of circumstances.

He is survived by his two sons, William Astor and G. Todd Astor of Essex Junction; his wife, Robin; three grandchildren; a sister, Jacqueline Astor Drexel of New York, and a nephew.

Out of respect for his wishes, there will be no service to celebrate his life.

Mr. Scroggins died Sept. 25, 2008, at his residence in Canton.

He was born June 26, 1920, in Eureka to the late Eugene [41575] and Alice Maria Key Scroggins [47284]. He was a member of Lawrence Springs Baptist Church, The Christian Motorcycle Association and Holiday Rambler R.V. Club. Mr. Scroggins was an ordained minister. He retired from Greyhound Bus Line as a bus operator and helped start Greyhound Van Lines. Later in life he started his own earth-moving business.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Ruby Lois Scroggins [10736], Canton; daughters, Glenda Spears, Canton and Gayle Caughron, Grand Saline; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The cause was cancer, his family announced. Mr. Scroggins retired in 1996 as senior vice president, Corporate Real Estate & General Services, American Express Company, after a 37 year career in corporate real estate. In 1982, the International Association of Corporate Real Estate Executives, NACORE, certified him a Master of Corporate Real Estate. At American Express, he headed an organization responsible for a number of major real estate projects worldwide including regional operating centers and two headquarters buildings in New York City. In 1992, he was honored by his peers as the first winner of the NACORE New York Annual Award for Outstanding Corporate Real Estate Executive. He served as president of the NACORE New York chapter, and as a director of NACORE International. He served as chair of the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of Greater New York and also of the Heritage Trail of Lower Manhattan. He was a director of the Downtown Lower Manhattan Association and was a member of the Advisory Committee - Plan for Lower Manhattan. In 1992 he was presented a Certificate of Appreciation by David Dinkins, Mayor of New York, for his "leading role in the City's vital real estate industry, and for his expertise to the not-for-profit sector for the benefit of all New Yorkers". Richard Muir Scroggins was born December 11, 1932 in Detroit. He is the son of Florence Scroggins of Ridgefield, and the late Olin Scroggins of Farmington, Michigan. Mr. Scroggins joined the U.S. Naval Reserve in May 1950, and served on active duty at the Grosse Isle Naval Air Station. In September 1951, he was accepted into the Navy ROTC Program at the University of Michigan where he earned a bachelors degree in business administration. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. In June 1955 he was commissioned in the U.S. Marine Corps. After completing six months of platoon leader training, he was assigned as adjutant of the headquarters squadron, Marine Corps Air Facility, New River, North Carolina. On June 30, 1956 he married Jeanne Joslyn, a career teacher from Sycamore, Illinois. Mrs. Scroggins died in 2004. After release from active duty, Mr. Scroggins held sales and real estate positions at Shell Oil Company, Burroughs Corporation and Ford Motor Company. In 1969 he was assigned to head the dealership real estate program for Ford of Europe, based in London. He returned to the U.S. in 1974 to become director of Leasing & Property Management at Ford Motor Land Development Corporation. He joined American Express in 1975 as vice president, Real Estate. Mr. Scroggins and his family owned several sailboats that made passages on the North Sea and along the Atlantic Coast. He is a member of the Greenwich Boat & Yacht Club, the Islamorada Fishing Club and the Marine Corps League. He is a 25-year member of the First Church of Round Hill where he served as trustee and chair of the Endowment Committee. He also served for a number of years as president of the Rockview Drive Association. Surviving are his mother, daughters, Laura Scroggins Wolf of Marstons Mills, Mass., Lisa Scroggins Lee of Ridgefield,CT., Sarah Scroggins Zejda of Stamford, CT. and four grandchildren. Burial will be private. A service to celebrate his life will be held on October 3, 11a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Greenwich, CT. PRAIRIE GROVE -- Mike Allen "Jelly Belly" Hoelcel, 56, of Prairie Grove passed away Monday, Sept. 1, 2008, at his residence. He was born March 3, 1952, in Ulysses, Kan., the son of Karl and Lena Scroggins Hoelzel. He was a truck driver and a loving father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Rhonda Hoelcel of the home; three daughters, Amy Robbins of Prairie Grove, Katrina Tuell of Prairie Grove, Chasity Little of Mountainburg; two sons, Clint Langway of Booneville, Chris Langway of Portland, Ore.; two brothers, Wayne Hoelcel, Max Davis; two sisters, Rhonda Shirley, Regina Morton; and 21 grandchildren.

The family will announce a memorial service later.

BELLS - Shirley Joe Tressa 71, our beloved mother, devoted daughter and dear friend passed away Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, at Baylor Medical Center of Garland.

Graveside services are set for 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at Pecan Gap Cemetery with the Rev. Billy Neal Jr., pastor of First Baptist Church of Bells officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Mullican-Little Funeral Home.

The family receives friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

She was born Aug. 21, 1937, in Honey Grove, to Joe and Pearl Scroggins Joyce. She was a retired administrator from Zenith Corp. and was a 1955 graduate of Honey Grove High School.

She is survived by her sons, James Tressa, Robert Goodwin, Jason Tressa and wife, Lorellie, Joe Tressa and wife, Lisa; daughter, Elizabeth Day and husband, Billy; grandchildren, Tyler, Hannah and Victoria Goodwin, Samantha Joe and April Day, Joseph, Jamie, and Elias Tressa, Sean and Tastiana Smith; great-grandchild, Aylia Thomas Day.

SCROGIN, E. DUDLEY, 91, died September 3, 2008 at his home in Bradenton, FL. He was born in Bradenton and graduated from Bradenton (now Manatee) High School in 1935. He attended the University of Florida 1935-1938, receiving an Associates of Arts Degree. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1941 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Mr. Scrogin was a retired Professional Engineer and a retired Commander, USNR. He was a Fellow Member of Florida Engineering Society, Myakka Chapter, Past President of the Florida Engineering Society, Miami Chapter, a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, a Life Member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and a Life Member of the Military Officers Association of America, Bradenton Chapter. He went on active duty in the Navy as Ensign, USNR in October 1941 at the U. S. Naval Station, Key West, FL where he was Officer in Charge of the Diesel Engine Repair Shop. He married Jean Hitchco!

From May to September 1945 he was Officer-in- Charge of Landing Craft Repair Base #2, Russell Islands, South Pacific. He stayed active in the Naval Reserves and his last position was as Commanding Officer, Naval Reserve Research Company 6-39, Miami, FL. He retired as Commander, USNR in 1977. The majority of his civilian career was spent in the supervision of operations and maintenance of power plants for Florida Power and Light Company, retiring in Miami, FL November 1980 after more than 33 years with that company. He and his wife, returned to Bradenton in 1991. His wife of 53 years, Jean Hitchcolk Scrogin, died on September 3, 1996. He is survived by his companion Priscilla B. Gryder, daughters Suzanne (Ralph) Coley of Cohasset, MA, Catherine (Mark) Bir of Fort Myers, FL and fos!
