Searcy.
Born at Newport, she was an LPN at Regional Health Care in Newport and of
the Baptist belief.
Survivors include her husband, Buddy Teague; a son, Issiac "Bud" Teague of
Almyra; two daughters, Merveline Kirk of Searcy and Barbara Kee of Hazen;
two sisters; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Bertie Lee SCROGGINS
Whiteside.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Jackson's Newport Funeral
Home, with Ronnie Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Ballew's Chapel
Cemetery.

JONESBORO -- Mrs. Lillie Pauline Rash, 82, of Jonesboro died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, in St. Bernards Medical Center at Jonesboro.

Mrs. Rash was born in Cameron, Okla., and had lived for the past 40 years in Jonesboro and was formerly of Trumann. She was a retired housekeeper for St. Bernards Medical Center and a member of Nettleton Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Elmer Rash Sr., in 1992; a daughter, Gail Rash; a son, Johnny Rash; and her parents, Jack and Alice SCROGGINS Neeley.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Alice Long of Jonesboro; one son, Floyd Rash Jr. of Powhatan; three grandsons, Michael Scott Long, Christopher Long and Gregory Forrester; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home. Burial will be private in Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery in Harrisburg. Thompson Funeral Home of Trumann is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Goad, Don Wisdom, Wayne Neeley, Greg Forrester, Paul Coats and Steven Price. Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Goad, Scott Long and Chris Long.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today in Thompson Funeral Home.

ASH FLAT -- Daniel K. Russell, age 34, of Ash Flat died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, in Horseshoe Bend.

Survivors include his father, Lowell, and stepmother, Leola, of Ash Flat; mother, Alice SCROGGINS, and stepfather, Willie; two brothers, Lowell Kelly II and Jeremy M. Russell; two stepbrothers, Kris and Jeff Snow; stepsister, Katie Snow; grandfather, Theron Russell; grandmother Lois McKeny; six nieces and nephews; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be Sunday from 5-7 p.m.

TRUMANN -- Mr. Sidney Ray "Sid" Woods, 63, of Trumann died Tuesday, May 8, at the family residence in Trumann.

Mr. Woods was a lifetime resident of Trumann, retired farmer and member of Melton Avenue Church of Christ.

Mr. Woods was preceded in death by one daughter, Marilyn Ann Lyons; four sisters; two brothers; and was the son of the late Arthur and Mable Ann Clark Woods.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Linda Kay SCROGGINS Woods of the home; a daughter, Donna Kay Frego of Trumann; a son, Kenneth Allen Woods of Trumann; one brother, Perry Woods of Trumann; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be Friday afternoon at 1:30 in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann with Nolan Glover officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.

Born April 6, 1932, at Tyronza, he was preceded in death by his parents, John and Willie Martin James; wife, Josephine SCROGGINS James; son, Terry James; a brother, a sister and a grandchild.

Survivors include daughters, Kathy James of Vanndale, Karen Lowe of Millington and Beth Volbrecht of Vanndale; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

HARRISBURG -- John Wayne Lindsey Sr., 67, of Harrisburg died Sunday, May 4, at his home.

Born at Tupelo, Miss., he was a carpenter and contractor who built homes in the Harrisburg and Wynne areas for 35 years. He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Harrisburg and was a former member of the Arkansas Army National Guard.

He played baseball for many years and was a big Alabama football fan. He worked 30 years as a drink salesman with Dr. Pepper, Pepsi, RC and SunDrop. Sterling served as a deacon at Bethel Church of Christ in Bethel, Tenn., for many years. He was always a happy person to be around, even when he didn't feel good. He loved everyone, and everyone who met him loved him, too. He comes from a large family, but there will be a large void without him there to make us all laugh. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Margaret Turner, Mary Ann Perry; and brothers, Willie Lee Turner and Donnie Wade Turner. She was the loving wife of Cecil Scroggins, with whom she shared 44 years of marriage. Born August 4, 1944, in Chicago, she was the daughter of the late Sarah (Henderson) McClister and Calvin Horner. Mrs. Scroggins enjoyed being a wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. Her family was the joy of her life. He was born September 23, 1952, in Louisville, Ky., the son of Louis Bader Jr. and Martha Scroggins. The longtime Tampa area resident is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; daughters, Heather DeBrocke and Stephanie Winn; son, Daniel; brothers, Louis "Butch" Bader III and Timothy Bader; and sister, Alice Marie Maiocchi. Tom' s pride and joy were his five grandsons (Derek, Drew, Thomas, Troy, and Tyler) and the rapid growth of his baseball card collection. He had owned and operated Brandon Sportscards and Collectibles since 1997. He enjoyed sports, movies, golf and any time spent with his family. In lieu of flowers, the Bader family asks that donations be made in Tom' s name to the American Cancer Society or the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer and Research Center, for those who continue to fight renal cell carcinoma. Bill G. Ford, 83, of Denton, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2008 at Regency Hospital North Dallas in Carrollton. He was born June 12, 1924 in Ringgold TX to F.O. and Cama Scroggins Ford. He married Wanda Stewart on November 11, 1944 in Kilgore. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, 1st Division of the South Pacific during WWII. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and had owned Ace Auto Parts in Denton. After retirement, Mr. Ford devoted many years at SPAN.


A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at 2 p.m. in Cole Chapel of the First United Methodist Church.


He is survived by his wife, Wanda Stewart of Denton; daughter, Jill Heatherly of New Braunfels; sons, Craig Ford of Spring and Dean Ford of Scottsdale AZ; grandchildren, Keri and Chance Ford of Spring, Killian Ford of Scottsdale AZ, Katherine Ford of Ann Arbor MI, Katherine Heatherly of San Antonio and Grant Heatherly of New Braunfels; great-granddaughter, Erin Ford of Scottsdale; sister, Inawade Hulen of Hurst. He was also well loved by many in-laws.

Anthony was the proprietor of Eleanore Skin Care and Cosmetics with hundreds of clients in the Kansas City area. After retiring in 1991, she moved to Marco Island, FL and married W. Jack Anthony, a retiree from Norfolk Southern Railroad and Gallatin, MO native. They moved to Naples in 1997. She was born Eleanore M. Schroeder in Manhattan, KS, and was the second of five children. Her siblings include brothers Martin, ID (deceased); Jack, CA; Bill, KS; and sister Bernadine Scroggins, MN. In 1949, she married Robert Dean Morrison and had four children-daughters Ramona Feisley, WA; Gera Valenzuela, MO; Mary Jo Butler, MO; and son Gary Morrison. She has four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Eleanore was a well-liked, independent businesswoman. Her loves included family, friends, music, humor, dance, travel, her !
profession, and an unmistakable zest for life. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Dean Morrison (Shad) in 1984. Ikey L. Scroggins, age 64, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at the King�s Daughters� Hospital in Madison. He was born on July 30, 1943 in Madison, the son of Harold and Mary Gladys Fredenburgh Scroggins.

Mr. Scroggins worked in construction most of his life, having been employed by the former J.D. Shake Construction Company until 1982. He then formed his own construction company and retired from that in 1994. For several years after that, he worked as a security guard for Ameriform Company in Carrollton, Kentucky.

Survivors include his companion, Mary Johnson of Madison; two daughters: Lucretia �Cricket� Hager of Nicholasville, Kentucky, and Joy Zeilger and her husband, Randy of Columbus, Indiana; four sons: Jason Scroggins of Nicholasville, Kentucky, Shawn Handlon and his wife, Lisa of Taylor Mill, Kentucky, Jeffrey Handlon and his wife, Maggie of Madison, and Lewis Handlon and his wife, Tracy of Hanover; three brothers: Jerry Scroggins of Lacey Spring, Alabama, Bob Scroggins and Charlie Scroggins, both of Madison; one sister, Barb Boggs of Madison; thirteen grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Troy Scroggins in 1992; five brothers: Raymond Scroggins, Jim Scroggins, Donnie Fredenburgh, George Scroggins and Roger Scroggins; and one son-in-law, Audie �Hoss� Hager in 2003.

At his request, no services will be held for Mr. Scroggins.

Funeral services for Mrs. Susan Elizabeth Crooks will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 16, 2008, in the Chapel of Hixson Brothers of Jena with Rev. Randy Ray officiating. Interment will follow in the Chalk Hill Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Brothers of Jena.


Mrs. Crooks, 59, of Trout, passed from this life on Thursday, March 13, 2008, at LaSalle General Hospital. She was a retired LaSalle Parish school teacher.


She is survived by her husband, Clyde Crooks of Trout; one son, John Clyde Crooks of Littleton, Colorado; one daughter, Sarah Clancy of Pineville; one sister, Louise Scroggins of Jena; one granddaughter, Ella Clancy.


Mrs. Crooks was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Marie Terral and one sister Barbara Widdon.


Pallbearers were Stan Scroggins, Stacy Scroggins, Charles Widdon, Allen Jones, Jr., Guy Neil Campbell, and Steve Campbell.


Honorary Pallbearers were Wesley Crooks, Danny Kirbie, Donald Stuckey and Craig Myers.


Friends may call on the Crooks family, Saturday, March 15, 2008, at Hixson Brothers at 5 p.m.-10 p.m. and Sunday, March 16, 2008, from 8 a.m. until time of service.

Notice for Bennie Randell Scroggins

Message: Bennie Randell Scroggins BLANCHARD, LA - Services for Bennie Randall Scroggins, 68, of Blanchard, Louisiana, will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, March 15, 2008, at Hill Crest Funeral Home in Haughton. Officiating will be the Reverend Milton Vining Jr. Interment at Hill Crest Memorial Park Cemetery will follow the service. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, March 14, 2008, from 5 pm until 8 pm at Hill Crest Funeral Home. Mr. Scroggins was born on October 3, 1939, in Columbus, Georgia, and lived in Blanchard, Louisiana, for 33 years. On Monday, March 10, 2008, after a lengthy illness and with his family by his side, Ben was called home to be with the Lord. Mr. Scroggins proudly served in the United States Navy from 1956 -1960, serving on both the USS Brown and the USS Edwards. Following his honorable discharge, he became a glazier by trade, and helped build numerous large buildings around Shreveport such as Regions Bank downtown. He was also involved in the glass installation at the Louisiana Downs Racetrack. He was an avid fisherman, and loved to joke about being able to take his fishing boat to heaven with him. Mr. Scroggins was preceded in death by his father, Bennie Frank Scroggins. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 48 years, Fern Owens Scroggins; his mother, Betty Lois Scroggins; three brothers, Don Scroggins, Roger Scroggins, and Errol (Rusty) Scroggins; three sisters, Joyce Van Brocklyn, Patsy Hutches, and Gale Dzvonick; and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, and other relatives. Pall bearers will be his brothers, Don, Roger and Rusty Scroggins, brothers-in-law Charles Poindexter and Mike Jones, and long-time friend Ray Akes. The family would like to extend a very special thanks to Drs. Jimmy Smith and Michael Aura for their compassionate care of Mr. Scroggins during his illness. Message: William Roscoe "Bill" Bill Roscoe, 74 of Big Rock, formerly of Aurora, passed away at his home during his sleep after a brief but courageous "war" with lung cancer. It was a war because he already had battled colon cancer and won. Bill was a proud member of Plumbers and Pipefitters, UA local union 501, of which he was a current officer of the retiree club. He also held a past office of Executive Board Member. He spent many years of hard work with Artlip and Sons and at Mooseheart's "The Child City" Bill attended West Aurora H.S. and served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a life time member of the Phoenix Club and the Amvets. Bill also served as one of the inaugural trustee's for the village of Big Rock. Bill was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed his many trips to Canada with his family and friends. He spent season after season coaching the Chicago Bears from his "recliner" and still enjoyed a cold Pabst Blue Ribbon! Bill leaves behind his wife Joni (Szilage/Lurz) and his children, Scott (Lisa) Roscoe of Aurora, Jeff (Teresa) Roscoe of Mesa AZ, and Pam Miller of Post Falls, ID. Bill was grandfather to Michelle (Dan) Spatafora, Branden and Chad Roscoe, Jeremiah Roscoe, Tony and Patrick Roscoe, Tommy Lieving ,Jeffery Stout and Spencer Lalley and his life-long buddy, Ken Lancaster (Jan)and his latest best friend "Oky". He also leaves behind, his brother and sisters, Betty (Orin) Anderson of Longview, WA. Joe Ben Scroggins Sr., died peacefully June 5, 2005.


Born in Mobile, Ala., he lived in Mississippi and Louisiana for most of his life. Joe served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. His career in the U.S. Navy began in 1944 and he retired in 1966.


Joe was preceded in death by the love of his life, and his son, Joe Ben Scroggins Jr. He is survived by his sons, Johnny Ray, Jerry Lee, and Jamey Jay (Donna) Scroggins; daughters, Jackie Gay (Jerry) Nemish and Joyce Ann (John) Hogue; grandchildren, Johnny Jr., Brian, Stacie, Chrissy, Jackie, Betty, Jacob, Jerry, Sara, Stephanie, Ashley, James, Dora, and Matt; numerous great-grandchildren; and brother, Charles Scroggins of England.

Visitation will be from noon-2 p.m. on April 24, 2005 at Stricklin-King Funeral Home in Yazoo City, MS. A funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery in Yazoo City.

Cora Lathon, 101, also known as Nanny, died May 10, 2004. She was born on October, 18, 1902 to the late Robert and Eugenia Hicks in Saucier. There were six children born to this union.


Cora attended Marion County School. She accepted Christ at a very young age. Soon after moving to Biloxi with her parents she joined Bethel Baptist Church under the guidance of Rev. Louis Johnson. She later met and married Brother James Lathon.


She was a member of the Senior Missionary Society, sang in the choir, worked on the kitchen committee, a member of the Mother's Board, and a member of the Court of Calanthe #33. She was a guardian angel to at least six generations of children as well as adults.


She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lathon; a stepdaughter, Evelyn Smith; five siblings, Roscoe, Chester and John Hicks, Ruby Ray and Sarah Hicks; a nephew, Roland Hicks; a niece, Elaine Guichard; and two stepgrandchildren, Clothilde Hughes and Charles Smith.


She leaves to mourn her passing, one adopted daughter, Marlyene Scroggins; a loving and devoted great-niece, LaMonica (James) Greenlee; one granddaughter, Jayme Scroggins; one great-great-nephew, James Lathon Greenlee; 3 stepgrandchildren; 14 stepgreat-grandchildren; 30 stepgreat-great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.


Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 18, 2004 with visitation from 9-11 a.m. at the New Bethel Baptist Church in Biloxi.


Burial will be in Biloxi Cemetery.

­ Lucinda Lucille Wilson died Friday, Aug. 3, 2007.
A celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Main and Oklahoma Church of Christ in McAlester, with Bill Banks officiating. Burial will be at Chambers Cemetery under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.
Family will greet friends today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Born a full-blood Cherokee Indian Feb. 6, 1917, in Delaware County, to Samuel Curtis and Dorcas (Fox) Scuggins, she attended school in Butler until age 10, then went to Sequoyah Indian Boarding School in Tahlequah.
She was a cook at McAlester High School and McAlester Regional Health Center and retired when she was 70 years old. She was a member of the Main and Oklahoma Church of Christ of McAlester, was involved with Meals on Wheels, summer church camp, Ladies Bible Group and Women?s Indian Club.
A lifelong Democrat, she enjoyed sports, including baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals, football and basketball, gardening, sewing, puzzles and cooking.
Survivors include her 12 children and spouses, Dorothy Ellington, of Enid, Robert J. and Janice Wilson, of Checotah, Jean Reeves, of Muskogee, Peggy and Bill Fulkersin, of Clayton, N.M., Fran Mattias, Nobel, Jerry Wilson, of Denver, Maxine and Thomas Hayes, of McAlester, Becky and Kevin Schorr, of Manassas, Va., Betty and Tony Joslin, of Homer, Ark., Gary and Galia Wilson, of Fort Gibson, Sherry Medley, of McAlester, Terry and Kyle Adams, of Abilene, Texas; one stepdaughter and spouse, Margi and Russell Saldin, of Buena Vista, Ark.

Mary Louise (Raven) Scruggins, 88, widow of Mr. Taft "Chief" Scruggins, died at 2:45 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2008 in the Cherokee County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Tahlequah, Oklahoma.


Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, in the Memory Chapel of The Arnold Moore Funeral Residence. Pastor G. Avery Scruggins, her grandson, and the Rev. Dale Nielsen will be the officiants. Committal prayers and interment will be directed in the Silver Lake Cemetery by The Arnold Moore Funeral Service.


Mrs. Scruggins will lie in state in the Drawing Rooms of The Arnold Moore Funeral Residence where family and friends may call for their visitation until the service hour.


An Oklahoma native, Mary Louise Raven was born March 12, 1919 at Fish Creek, near Bartlesville, in Washington County. She was the daughter of John L. Raven and Lucinda (White) Raven. She was reared and completed her education in the Dewey Public Schools. She was united in marriage to Taft "Chief" Scruggins on December 20, 1935 at Pawhuska, Oklahoma and they established their first home in Bartlesville. Mary was a homemaker and Mr. Scruggins was an employee of the Phillips Petroleum Company and later became active in industrial iron construction which took them to various parts of the United States. They moved to the Grove, Oklahoma community in 1972. Mr. Scruggins preceded her in death on May 18, 1991 in Grove and she remained a resident of Grove living in retirement. She had recently moved to Tahlequah to be near family.


Survivors are her son and daughter-in-law, John C. and Bette Scruggins of Tahlequah; three grandchildren, Jonna S. Burkett and husband, Justin; Bradley C. Scruggins, G. Avery Scruggins and wife, Kelly; six great grandchildren, Tory Raven Walton, Kazmira Kalain Lowry and Britney Mariah Scruggins; Natashsia Marie Finn, Jennifer Robin Chanate and Cage Avery Scruggins; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her husband and father and mother, five sisters, Edna Pratt, Sue Schmidt, Cecile Schmidt, Gatsey Bowker, and Irene Gable; and two brothers, Pete Edwin Raven and James "Jimmy" Leroy Raven, preceded her in death.

There will be a family memorial service in June. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Johnson Sr. She was a graduate of the University of Alabama and a big fan of the Alabama teams. She was a member of First Christian Church. She was an avid rose gardener who shared her flowers with everyone. She was also a great cook. Mrs. Johnson was a very gracious lady and full of hospitality. She celebrated every holiday with her family, and she will be greatly missed. She is survived by a daughter, Suzanne Scroggins (Derrell), Florence; a son, Dr. Lloyd Johnson Jr. (Joan), Florence; grandchildren, Mary Sue Ridgway (Alan), Dr. Lloyd Johnson III (Holly), Kristi Johnson Smith (Tim), Dr. Todd Johnson (Betsy), Ashley Johnson; great-grandchildren, James Alan Ridgway, Derrell Sidney Ridgway, Melissa Suzanne Ridgway, Alex and Lily Johnson, Ella and Sienna Smith and Gabrielle Johnson. Message: Winona Faye (Isom) Rightnowar Winona Faye (Isom) Rightnowar, age 83, of Waltonville, died 7:36 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2008, at her home in Waltonville.Faye was born Nov. 8, 1924, in Waltonville, the daughter of Nelson and Inez (Green) Isom. She married Merle Q. Rightnowar on March 1, 1943, in DeRidder, La.; he preceded her in death on Feb. 23, 2008.Faye was a long time employee of the Security Bank and later Boatmans Bank, where she served as head teller and later as assistant cashier. She was of the Protestant faith. She and her husband enjoyed several activities such as golfing, fishing, boating and camping. Faye also enjoyed growing flowers and sewing. She was a long time member of VFW Post 9153 Ladies Auxiliary of Waltonville. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Newell Funeral Home in Waltonville, with Pastor Tanner Green officiating. Interment will follow at Knob Prairie Cemetery in Waltonville. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. He was a member of the American Legion.

By his request his body was cremated and there will be no funeral services.

Julia, Dakota and Danielle Scroggins of Japan were flower girls.

Austin Lam of Mount Solon was ringbearer.

The bride graduated from Fort Defiance High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Eastern Mennonite University. She is an operating room coordinator at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

The groom graduated from Broadway High School. He works in environmental services at RMH.

After a honeymoon in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, the couple reside in Weyers Cave.

Sunday, January 14, 2007 ORVEL WEST FRANCIS - Services for Orvel Thomas West, 93, Francis, are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Grove Free Will Baptist Church, the Revs. Earl Scroggins and Willie White officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Chickasaw Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery. Mr. West died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, at his home. He was born July 25, 1913, at Francis to Ely and Effie Bolin West. He attended school at Cedar Grove and Francis. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Mr. West was a Flight Maintenance Gunner, flying in 29 combat missions in a B-26 aircraft over enemy occupied territory of Germany and Belgium. He received the American Theater EAME Theater Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, Air Medal with 3 Bronze Clusters, and the Victory Medal. He moved to Moore in 1950 and returned to Francis in 1969. Mr. West was employed at Tinker Air Force Base in 1950 as a Hydraulic Mechanic and retired in 1971. He was a charter member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Moore and helped build the current building at Cedar Grove Free Will Baptist Church, where he was a longtime active member and served as a Deacon. He married Hazel Louise Scroggins [28731] Dec. 8, 1945. She died Sept. 17, 2004. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Francis.  Mrs. Dixon died Friday, Feb. 9, 2007, at a local hospital. She was born Feb. 1, 1942, in Ada to Melburn and Hazel Scroggins Copeland. She attended school at Cedar Grove and graduated from Moore High School in 1961.  She married Chester Dixon June 12, 1965, at Moore. She was a homemaker and currently employed with Wal-Mart. She was affiliated with the Church of God. AVON - Ruth Ann (Cobb) Barlowe was born in Marion to the late Henry and Edith Ann (Pettiford) Cobb. She lived most of her lifetime in Marion. She departed this life Wednesday at Avon Healthcare Center after an extended illness.

Jan. 15, 1945, she married Mayo Scroggins Sr. To this union, six children were born. She later married James E. Davis Sr. Then in 1969, she married Clarence Barlowe Jr. Ruth Ann attended Marion schools and worked at RCA for 19® years before retiring in 1968. In later years, she worked as resident manager for Prince Hall Housing Authority for approximately three years.

Ruth Ann confessed her faith in Christ at an early age. She was very active in church, community and political functions, offering her beautiful voice in song or preparing special meals. She served under the Rev. J.D. Williams, Greater Second Baptist Church, for many years and later became a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, serving under the Rev. C.L. Adams prior to relocating to Indianapolis.

Ruth Ann loved singing, bowling and cooking. She was always willing to help anyone in any way possible and became "Grandma" to many. She was a former member of the Daughters of I.B.P.O.E. of W. and once served as their state queen. She was a former member of the ChickA-Wa-Wa's and the Indy All-Star Clubs. She became ill in 1995 and was cared for by her daughter, Cyrece, for the following six years prior to entering a nursing facility.

She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Jerry Mac (Twanna) Scroggins, Orlando, Fla., and Mayo Scroggins Jr., Sacramento, Calif.; three daughters, Eleanor Louise Scroggins, Fayetteville, N.C., and Mary Maxine Brewer and Cyrece Ann (Scroggins) Fashola, both of Indianapolis; sister, Nettie Barnett; brother, Coy O. Cobb; five granddaughters, Tomia Scroggins, Tara Keys, Heather "Missy" Scroggins, Desiree' Hacker, Iwanda Dew and Terri Brewer; adopted granddaughter, Margaret Smith; five grandsons, Dion R. Cannon Sr., Scott Brewer, Josh Scroggins, Kyle Erickson and Michall (Dejuan) Jones; 31 great-grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

She also was preceded in death by a son, Larry M. Scroggins; siblings, Calvin J. Cobb, Ammie (Marjorie) Stewart and Elizabeth Murrell; and a dear aunt, Beulah Malone.

Services are at 1 p.m. Monday in St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 1204 W. 14th St., Marion, with the Rev. C.L. Adams officiating. Burial is in Grant Memorial Park cemetery, Marion.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - Pauline Bebout, 66, 30 Oak Manor Drive, formerly of Jonesboro, died Wednesday in her residence.


She was born in Marion, the daughter of the late John H. and Hulda M. (Overman) Mansbarger. She married David E. Bebout on March 6, 1959. He survives.


She was a waitress at Hampton Inn, Cocoa Beach, Fla., Chris's Cafe and Dot's Diner in Jonesboro and Vogel's Donut Shop in Marion. She formerly worked at Foster-Forbes in Marion. She attended Epworth School in Jonesboro.


Additional survivors include a son, David Bebout, Havelock, N.C.; daughters, Debbie Rae VanDine, Greenville, Texas, and Penny Lynn Owings, Gas City; brothers, (twin) Paul (Ruth) Mansbarger, Gas City, and Woodrow (Elvie) Cloud, Florida; sister, Catherine Broyles, Gas City; sisters-in-law, Minnie and Alma Mansbarger; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.


She also was preceded in death by brothers, Robert Cloud, Wilber Henry, John, Charles, William Mansbarger and Jacob Mansbarger; and a sister, Roda May Henderson.

Martha Lucille Blinn


July 19, 1918 - April 21, 2005


Martha Lucille Blinn, 86, Marion, entered eternity to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday at her home in the presence of loved ones.


She was born in Grant County to the late Dwight Wilcox and Ruth Leora (Small) Dragstrem. She married Samuel Blinn on Aug. 19, 1940. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Blinn was a retired homemaker, nurse's aide and 4-H leader. She was a charter member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church and a faithful Christian. She was a gracious and caring woman who shared her warmth, humor, kindness and generosity with everyone around her. Her home was a haven to all, from troubled Marion youth during the 1950s, who came to the farm to learn life skills, to her youngest great-grandchild, who trusted and adored her. She will be missed by all who knew her and by a family that loved her.


Survivors include sons, Edwin "Ed" (Sandy) Blinn and David (Lucille) Blinn, both of Marion; daughters, Janet (Charles) Sweeney, Cromwell, Sammie Ann (John) Dembosz, American Canyon, Calif., Kathleen and Donna Blinn, both of Marion, Nancy (James) Koudelka, Port Orchard, Wash., and Marilyn Blen, Yamhill, Ore.; a brother, James Dragstrem, Palm Coast, Fla.; sister, Mary Catherine Nierste, Marion; 28 grandchildren; and 45 great-grandchildren.


She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne Dee and John Alvin; and a sister, Sarah Evelyn Dragstrem.

GAS CITY - Mrs. Minnie K. (Tullock) Cotter, 60, died suddenly Tuesday in her Gas City residence.


She was born in Greeneville, Tenn., the daughter of the late Roy Lee Tullock Sr. and Mary (Bowman) Tullock. Minnie and her late husband, Dennis E. Cotter, started the Bee-Line Taxi Cab in the late 1960s. She was previously employed at General Tire, Wabash, St. Regis Paper Co., Meshingomesia Country Club and Squirt's Bar, all of Marion.


She is survived by a daughter, Kim (Cotter) Cottrell, Van Buren; three sons, Michael E. "Mickey" (Danielle) Cotter, New Ulm, Minn., and John D. Cotter and Joseph F. "Joey" Cotter, both of Gas City; a brother, Roy Lee "Junior" (Sharon) Tullock, Greeneville, Tenn.; two sisters, Nancy C. (Frankie) Tripplett, Rogersville, Tenn., and Kaneta Benbow, Swayzee; companion/friend of 34 years, Mark Julian; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

JONESBORO - Joann K. Oden, 74, went to be with the Lord on Friday at 12:45 a.m. at Bradner Village Healthcare Center, Marion.


She was born in Buchanan, Mich., to the late Earl M. and Katherine Augusta (Walters) Sutton. She grew up in Amboy and graduated from Converse High School. She married Paul Oden on Oct. 5, 1952, in Amboy, and he survives. They later moved to Jonesboro where they resided for 36 years.


She was a homemaker and formerly worked as a telephone operator in Amboy. She loved people, especially her family and enjoyed talking to everyone. She was a member of the Wesleyan Church and attended Westview Wesleyan Church in Jonesboro.


Additional survivors include sons, Brian (Tina) Oden, and Mark (Sara Kim) Oden, both of Jonesboro; a daughter, Norma (Teddy) Dickey, Anderson; brother, Larry (Sandy) Sutton, Amboy; a sister, Marjorie (Howard) Bates, Gas City; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Garry Jones, 47, passed away at Marion General Hospital on Tuesday.


He enjoyed singing, cooking and spending time with his grandchildren. He attended Calvary Baptist Church and was formerly employed by R&R Truck and Radiator Service. He had been a member of the community for 39 years. He professed Christ at an early age under the leadership of the late Rev. John Speikes at New Light Baptist Church.


He is survived by his wife, Vera Cole, Marion; mother, Ruby Jones, Marion; three daughters, Casandra L. Brown, Natecia Guy and Tomika Guy, all of Marion; a son, Michael Guy, Marion; six brothers, Ulysses (Elizabeth) Jones, Southbury, N.C., Leroy (Diana) Jones Jr., Marion, James E. Jones, Chicago, Jerry (Missy) Jones, Montevella, Ala., Lee (Elaine) Jones, and Cubie (Debra) Jones Sr., both of Marion; three sisters, Geraldine Miller and Erma (Roy Lee) Harvey, both of Marion, and Anita (Rudolph) Thomas, Ripley, Tenn.; six grandchildren; and hosts of nieces, nephews and many special friends, who will sadly miss him.


He was preceded in death by his father, Leroy Jones Sr., and his brother, Hosay Jones.

Jack R. Bryant


Feb. 17, 1940 - April 21, 2005


CONVERSE - Jack R. Bryant, 65, died at 8 p.m. Thursday in his residence.


He was born in Burnside, Ky. to the late Oliver and Mildred (Wyatt) Bryant and had been a resident of the Converse area since 1964. He married Mary E. Steely on Aug. 26, 1961. She died on Nov. 15, 1999. He then married Atha E. Savage on May 18, 2003. She died on Feb. 13, 2005.


He retired from General Motors in 2002 after 36 years. He was a member and served as on officer in the union of Local 977. He was also a member of the Converse Masonic Lodge 601. He enjoyed being outside and working in the yard. He served with the Marines.


Survivors include daughter, Denise (Randy) Miller, Wabash; sons, Paul Bryant, Converse, Rob Savage, Kentucky, and David (Lori) Savage, Westchester, Ohio; grandchildren, Izaac Bryant, Bill, Brandon, Angel and Bryant Miller, and Zack and Alex Savage; brothers-in-law, Everett (Imogene) Steely, Sweetser, Albert (Cathy) Steely, Amboy, and Joe (Yvonne) Steely, Middlesboro, Ky.; sisters-in-aw, Lillie (Gary) Taylor, Pritchett, W. Va., and Anetha Gail Steely, Middlesboro, Ky.


He also was preceded in death by two brothers.

James Miles Hawkins


July 8, 1957-April 20, 2005


LaFONTAINE - James Miles Hawkins, 47, died Wednesday, at the University of Chicago in Chicago, Ill.


He was born to Richard and Eleanor (Jimmerson) Hawkins. He formerly was employed as a production worker at General Motors and served in the Army. He married Tamara (Emry) Hawkins on March 6, 1990.


James had a big heart and enjoyed doing anything anyone asked of him. He was a loving father, grandfather and uncle but will be fondly remembered as a man who loved all children and took care of many. He loved camping, fishing, boating and traveling and always talked about going back to Florida.


Along with his wife, Tami, and mother, Eleanor, he is survived by his two sons, James (Kelly) and John (Wendy) Hawkins, both of Marion; daughter, Stacie Hawkins, Marion; four grandchildren, Kali, Kristen, Justin and Jaren Miles; four brothers, Ronald (Kathy) and Donnie Borrow and David Hawkins, all of Marion, and Billy (Alice) Hawkins, Alexandria; and one sister, Debbie Emry, Marion.


He was preceded in death by his father, Richard; brother, Fletcher; and sister, Paula.

TUCSON, Ariz. - William J. "Pete" Wampler, 80, a veteran of the Marine Corps and a former member of the Indiana House of Representatives, died Sunday in Tucson.


A native of Bloomington, and long-time resident of Marion, Pete and his wife of 58 years, Betty, had resided in Arizona since 1992. Mr. Wampler served in the Marine Corps during World War II from 1943 to 1946 as a corporal. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon with four stars and the Presidential Unit Citation.


After the war, Pete enrolled at Indiana University where he met the former Betty Boxell. They were married Aug. 17, 1946. Pete continued his education at I.U., where he majored in business. Pete was a member of Lamba Chi Alpha fraternity, Sphinx Club and Skull and Crescent. A sousaphone player, he also became sergeant major of the Marching Hundred Band under the direction of Dr. Newell Long.


After his education at I.U., Pete and Betty settled in Marion, where Pete became a successful gasoline retailer and representative of U-Haul Rentals.


Active among Grant County Republicans, Pete was elected to the Indiana House of Representatives in 1961 where he served the House Ways and Means committee.


Pete served as president of Hoosier Gasoline Retailers, president of the Indiana Petroleum Retailers Association, president of the Grant County Scottish Rite and president of the Indiana University Alumni Club of Grant County. Pete was a 50-year member of Samaritan Lodge 105 F&AM, the Fort Wayne Body of Scottish Rite, Mizpha Temple and Scottish Rite Club of Marion.


Pete was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church of Marion, a life member of the Indiana University Alumni Association, a 50-year member of Meshingomesia Country Club and a 30-year member of the Columbia Club of Indianapolis.


Pete was honored to be invited to, and attended, the presidential inaugurations of Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan.


Pete also enjoyed world travel, and trips took him to Russia, Japan, China, Egypt, Australia, Thailand and many other countries.


The only child of John and Eunice Wampler of Bloomington, Pete is survived by Betty and their two sons, Michael Wampler, Aspen, Colo., and Jon (Susan) Wampler, Newport Beach, Calif.; and three grandchildren, Margot, Peter and Lucas Wampler.


Pete will be remembered for his love of family and his enjoyment of music, in particular jazz. He played piano, organ and bass. He also had a tremendous sense of humor. He will be missed by family and friends.


Pete asked that his body be cremated. A memorial service will take place at Oro Valley United Church at 3 p.m. Tuesday. After the service, a celebration of his life will take place at Saddlebrooke Country Club.
