Sunday, January 14, 2007 ORVEL WEST FRANCIS - Services for Orvel Thomas West, 93, Francis, are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Grove Free Will Baptist Church, the Revs. Earl Scroggins and Willie White officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Chickasaw Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery. Mr. West died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, at his home. He was born July 25, 1913, at Francis to Ely and Effie Bolin West. He attended school at Cedar Grove and Francis. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Mr. West was a Flight Maintenance Gunner, flying in 29 combat missions in a B-26 aircraft over enemy occupied territory of Germany and Belgium. He received the American Theater EAME Theater Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, Air Medal with 3 Bronze Clusters, and the Victory Medal. He moved to Moore in 1950 and returned to Francis in 1969. Mr. West was employed at Tinker Air Force Base in 1950 as a Hydraulic Mechanic and retired in 1971. He was a charter member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Moore and helped build the current building at Cedar Grove Free Will Baptist Church, where he was a longtime active member and served as a Deacon. He married Hazel Louise Scroggins [28731] Dec. 8, 1945. She died Sept. 17, 2004. Survivors include two daughters, Melba Sue Dixon and husband Chester, Francis, and LaWanda Jeanne White and husband Willie, Francis; a son, Lonnie Thomas West and wife Carolyn, Oklahoma City; two sisters, Edith Sutton, Moore and Vergie Jones, Henryetta; six grandchildren, Debra Dixon, Francis, LaDonna Dempsey and husband Ron, Ada, Chris White and wife Laura, Edmond, Angela Murray and husband Danny, Francis, Michelle West, Oklahoma City, and Brandy Jackson, Wewoka; three great- grandsons, Brent Dempsey, Hunter James Murray, and Christian Thomas White; six great granddaughters, Oriana White, Savannah White, Cassidy White, Melissa Dempsey, Madison Murray and Liberty Murray. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy West and Troy West. Bearers will be Chester Dixon, Danny Murray, Brent Dempsey, Ron Dempsey, Adam West, and Melvin Williamson. Honorary bearers will be Chris White, Don West, Charles West, David Jones, David Stettler, Carrel Bryant, Bob Hooser, and Larry Wheeler. Criswell Funeral Home, Ada
