Message: Bennie Randell Scroggins BLANCHARD, LA - Services for Bennie Randall Scroggins, 68, of Blanchard, Louisiana, will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, March 15, 2008, at Hill Crest Funeral Home in Haughton. Officiating will be the Reverend Milton Vining Jr. Interment at Hill Crest Memorial Park Cemetery will follow the service. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, March 14, 2008, from 5 pm until 8 pm at Hill Crest Funeral Home. Mr. Scroggins was born on October 3, 1939, in Columbus, Georgia, and lived in Blanchard, Louisiana, for 33 years. On Monday, March 10, 2008, after a lengthy illness and with his family by his side, Ben was called home to be with the Lord. Mr. Scroggins proudly served in the United States Navy from 1956 -1960, serving on both the USS Brown and the USS Edwards. Following his honorable discharge, he became a glazier by trade, and helped build numerous large buildings around Shreveport such as Regions Bank downtown. He was also involved in the glass installation at the Louisiana Downs Racetrack. He was an avid fisherman, and loved to joke about being able to take his fishing boat to heaven with him. Mr. Scroggins was preceded in death by his father, Bennie Frank Scroggins. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 48 years, Fern Owens Scroggins; his mother, Betty Lois Scroggins; three brothers, Don Scroggins, Roger Scroggins, and Errol (Rusty) Scroggins; three sisters, Joyce Van Brocklyn, Patsy Hutches, and Gale Dzvonick; and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, and other relatives. Pall bearers will be his brothers, Don, Roger and Rusty Scroggins, brothers-in-law Charles Poindexter and Mike Jones, and long-time friend Ray Akes. The family would like to extend a very special thanks to Drs. Jimmy Smith and Michael Aura for their compassionate care of Mr. Scroggins during his illness. We also thank the following: the Pines Road Dialysis Clinic staff and patients; Kinesiotherapists, Ron and Billy, at the VA Hospital; the District One Blanchard emergency response team; and the Cornerstone Hospital staff for their care of Mr. Scroggins during his hospitalization.
