COLE, EDNA CAMPBELL, 100, died in Naples, FL July 21, 2009, where she had been a resident since 1997. She was born in Louisville, graduated from Atherton High School in 1926, attended the University of Louisville, and trained as a medical technician at the old Norton Infirmary. For many years she resided with her family in Nicholasville, KY and was an active and giving member of the community and one of the founding members of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Edward C. Campbell and Emma Jones Campbell, of Louisville; her sister, Elizabeth Jones Rinehart, of Westhampton, MA; and in 1981 by her husband, James D. Cole of Nicholasville, KY; and by Max of Naples, FL.

She is survived by her daughter, Lea Cole Smith and her husband, David Smith, of Naples, FL; her son, John David Cole and his wife, Vickie A. Cole, of Bowling Green, KY; and three grandsons, John David Cole Jr. and his wife, Heather Wilson Cole, of Bowling Green, KY, William Mohead Cole and wife, Erin McGreer-Cole, of Fossil, OR; and Rodes Myers Cole and his wife, Elizabeth Scroggins Cole; and great-granddaughter, Marion Claire Cole; and a great-grandson, Rodes Myers Cole Jr., of Atlanta, GA.

There will be a graveside service 11 a.m. Friday, July 24, 2009 at Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville.

ABINGDON, Va. – Kathryn "Kate" Novella Wallace Scroggin, 92, passed peacefully from this earth to her heavenly home on Monday, July 20, 2009, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. Kate was born in Gnatville, Ala., on July 9, 1917, and lived most of her life in Piedmont, Ala., before moving to Virginia to be near her son. She was a loving, generous and kind mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, wife, aunt and friend. She was known for her strength of character, hospitality and truly amazing cooking. She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Kit" Scroggin [30738]; brothers, Willard, Morris and Woodrow Wallace; and her sister, Geanette Morgan. She is survived by her son, Joe Scroggin [30742] and daughter-in-law Libby [39497] of Abingdon; two granddaughters, Holly Taylor of Blountville, Tenn., and Crystal Scroggin of Nashville, Tenn.; and a great-grandson, Asher William Taylor of Blountville. She will also be especially missed by her constant furry companion, Paco. The family offers a special thanks to her loving caregivers, Darlene Goodson and Virginia Williams. Woman arrested in carjacking attempt

Sheriff's deputies arrested a 26-year-old woman at a bar Friday afternoon after she allegedly tried to carjack another woman who had refused to give her a ride, according Sgt. Greg Lansdowne.

The incident started just before 5 p.m. when a 40-year-old Santa Cruz woman pulled off Quail Hollow Road to make a cell phone call. During the call, Christina Scroggins confronted the driver and said she wanted a ride. When the driver refused, Scroggins allegedly ripped off the woman's sunglasses, scratched her face and declared she was going to take the car, according to deputies. Lansdowne said Scroggins also tried to open the car door.

The driver managed to get away. She drove to the Zayante fire house to get help.

About an hour later, deputies found Scroggins at a bar in Ben Lomond and arrested her on suspicion of attempted carjacking and battery. The Santa Cruz resident remained in County Jail on Monday.

A Clarksville man was charged Sunday with fleeing the scene of a wreck he caused while under the influence of alcohol, according to arrest warrants.

Jeff Wayne Scroggins, 21, who gave a 3291 Tower Drive Apt. D address, was charged with DUI, leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury, according to an arrest warrant filed by Officer Gregory Rosencrants.

Scroggins was driving west on Interstate 24 at 1:55 a.m. Sunday when he drove his car into a guard rail near mile marker 7, injuring his passenger, Rosencrants wrote. Scroggins ran into the woods after the wreck, according to the warrant. Police found him in a corn field near the scene.

Police found two open bottles of liquor in the car, according to the warrant.

The group has been a family team for three years and has been the top fundraiser for Wagoner County for the past two years by raising $11,500 in 2008 and raising $18,069 in 2009. The Queen of the Relay was Billy Peckenpaugh of Wagoner, who raised $600 and won both years as top fundraiser. The team was sponsored by Scroggins Brothers Concrete Company of Wagoner. Owners are Bobby Scroggins, Lloyd Scroggins and J.B. Scroggins.

Mrs. Scroggins died July 18, 2009, in Canton. She was born Oct. 12, 1921,in Honey Island to Ira Charles and Winnie Mae Langston.

Robert H. McCormick, 88, of Aurora, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at his home. He was born July 8, 1921 in Aurora, IL. Robert attended Sacred Heart Grade School and Church, graduated from Marmion Military Academy and also attended North Central College. He was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, the Third Ward Club, the V.F.W. Post #7452 in Montgomery, the Knights of Columbus #736, the L.O.O.M. #400, and was an Army veteran and recipient of the Purple Heart during World War II. Survivors include four children, Kay Wells of Morristown, TN, Clarence "Skip" (Bonnie) McCormick of Tucson, AZ, Judith [34469] (Rollie) [34435] Scroggins of Aurora and Pat (Jim) Braun of Bristol, IL; 14 grandchildren, Shawn, Molly, Carson, Caitlyn, Jaeson, Jeffrey, Nicole (John Paul), Chad (Jennifer), Amanda, Kelly, Paula, Roger, Mary and Susie; 13 great-grandchildren; two step-brothers, Charles B. Cathy McCabe of Denver passed away July 7, 2009, at 64 years of age. She was born Mary Catherine Tallarico, on April 22, 1945, in Keokuk, Iowa, and lived in Denver most of her life. She attended Loretto Heights College and graduated from St. Louis University in 1967. At various times, Cathy taught Spanish and English at North Arvada Junior High School and worked as a commercial real estate broker and financial planner. At all times she was the consummate wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her husband, John, her children, Michael McCabe (Denver) and Christine Scroggins [48365] (Maple Grove, Minn), and three grandchildren, Charlie [49225], Leo [49226] and Henry [49227] (Maple Grove, Minn). LEONARD - Ellen Ruth Bradford was born March 5, 1929 at Emory, Texas to Henry Childers and Sarah Stephens Childers. Ruth Childers married Alvin Scroggins [39091?] with whom she had her five daughters. He preceded her in death. She later married Hiarm Bradford on March 21, 1986. Ellen Ruth Bradford, 80 of Leonard, Texas, died Friday, July 3, 2009 in her sleep at her residence in Leonard, Texas, after a year long battle with cancer.

Ruth always had a smile on her face and never met a stranger. She was always laughing and cutting up. She was famous for whistling outside her home to call her children home. All her neighbors knew she was wanting her daughters when she whistled. She was a fantastic seamstress sewing all of her daughter's clothes. If her daughters found something in the store they liked. She could make it for them. She loved to quilt. She made baby quilts for all of her grandchildren. Up until her last moments she was planning her next quilt. All of her quilts were hand-made and are very special to her family.

She is survived by daughter, Shirley Fagan of Leonard; daughter, Martha Winton of Dodd City; daughter, Mary Cox of Milton, Florida; daughter, Ruby Johnson of Leonard; brother, Thomas Childers of Emory; sister, Ruby Williams of Leonard; brother, Jimmy Childers of Whitewright; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents, Henry and Sarah Childers; husband, Alvin Scroggins; husband, Hiarm Bradford; daughter, Alva Dunlap; granddaughter, Sheila Jefferson; great-grandson, Larry May; brothers, Albert and Bufford Childers.

Bettye Lou Bradley was born Feb. 27, 1943, in Strong City, Okla., to Ab and Opal (Blakley) Hendershot. She grew up in Strong City and received her education there. She married Joe Bradley on May 30, 1959, in Strong City, Okla. They made their home in Cheyenne, Okla. Before moving to a ranch near Brewster in 1987 then later moved to Ansley in 1991 where they made their home until her death.

Bettye loved her grandkids and enjoyed their sporting events. Whatever they were doing that's where she wanted to be. She loved spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and riding horses.

Bettye is survived by her husband, Joe Bradley Sr. of Ansley; two daughters, Terrie Seitsinger of Merna and Tammie (Brad) Kaelin of Broken Bow; three sons, Joe Bradley Jr. of Ansley, Jimy Bradley of Merna and Justin (Tracey) Bradley of Brewster; 11 grandchildren Josey, Cody, Shelbie, Denton, Tyler, Karissa, Ty, David, Blayne, J.T. and Zack; two great-grandchildren, Leslee Jo and Brennan; one sister, Frances Scroggins of Strong City, Okla.; and one brother, Jene (Jaunita) Hendershot of Houston, TX.

ANSLEY � Bettye Lou Bradley, 66, of Ansley died Saturday, July 4, 2009, at Jennie Melham Medical Center in Broken Bow.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church in Ansley with the Rev. Mel Shepherd officiating. Burial will be in the Merna Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary.

Mrs. Bradley was born Feb. 27, 1943, at Strong City, Okla., to Ab and Opal (Blakley) Hendershot.

Survivors of the immediate family include her husband, Joe Bradley Sr.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Terrie Seitsinger of Merna and Tammie and Brad Kaelin of Broken Bow; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Joe Bradley Jr. of Ansley, Jimy Bradley of Merna, and Justin and Tracey Bradley of Brewster; a brother and sister-in-law, Jene and Jaunita Hendershot of Houston; and a sister, Frances Scroggins of Strong City, Okla.

David James Townsend, 80, of 326 Schneider Dr., Fort Walton Beach, passed away Friday, July 3, 2009 at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.

David was born Dec. 8, 1928, in Baltimore, Md., a son of the late James Alfred and Mary Alice Litzan Townsend.

David served in the United States Air Force as a tech sergeant. He sold produce locally and was affectionately known as the "Tomato Man." He was a member of the Oakland Assembly of God. His family remembers him as an honest and hard-working man. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by one brother: John Townsend, and one stepson: Bobby Kennedy Sr.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 38 years, Alta Scroggins Townsend [] of Fort Walton Beach, one stepson: Richard Kennedy and his wife, Sandra of Navarre, one stepdaughter: Kathryn Johnson of Pace, Fla. , nine grandchildren: Barbara Hawthorne and her husband Dean of Milton, Linda Duncan and her husband Mike of North Carolina, Bobby Kennedy Jr. of Crestview, Matthew Kennedy of Milton, Sarah Kennedy of Pensacola, Carol Daw and her husband Jimmy of Pace, Christa Harder and her husband Ben of Dayton, Ohio, Christopher Kennedy of Navarre, Jason Kennedy of Navarre, 17 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren. Mr. Townsend is also survived by his half brothers, Jim Townsend, George Townsend, and Bill Townsend all of Camden, N.J.

A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2009 in the chapel of Emerald Coast Funeral Home. 113 Racetrack Rd. NE, Ft. Walton Beach, FL 32547. The Rev. Joe Maxwell will be officiating. Burial will follow in Beal Memorial Cemetery.

Memorial services for Mrs. Myrtis Virginia Johnson Farmer, 90, of Bastrop will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 3, 2009 at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service.

Myrtis Virginia Johnson Farmer was born November 23, 1918 in Winnsboro, La. to the late Ervin Willis Weems, Sr. and Nettie Scroggins Weems. She died Monday, June 29, 2009 at her home in Bastrop.

Mrs. Farmer was a member of the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Hermitage, Ark. and a retired nurses aide at Summerlin Lane Nursing Home where she served for over sixteen years. She will be fondly remembered by her family for her loving and caring spirit.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Roy T. Johnson; her parents; a son, Billy Joe Johnson; a daughter, Ann Andrews; and grandson, Randy Johnson.

Mrs. Farmer is survived by her daughter Helen McVay and her husband, Jim; three sons, Ervin Johnson and his wife Frances, Joey Johnson and his wife Brenda, and Tommy Johnson; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Johnny Lee Scroggins, 56, of Ozan, died Monday, June 22, 2009, in a local hospital. He was born February 24, 1953 in Ozan and was a member of St. Luke CME Church. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Washington.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel Scroggins, of Ozan; five children, Jackie and James Whitaker, Tyhitia and Lynn Flenory, and LaTisha Scroggins, all of Little Rock, and Ashley Scroggins and Johnny Scroggins, Jr., both of Mineral Springs; two grandchildren, Britney Scroggins and Jayda Whitaker, both of Little Rock; his father , David Scroggins, Sr.; three brothers, David and Sylvia Scroggins, Jr., of Denver, Colo., the Rev. Jessie and Mary Scroggins, and Solomon and Gracie Scroggins, both of Ozan; two sisters, Marie and R. C. Taylor, Jr. and Helen and John Wayne Armstrong, of Ozan, and a host of relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 27 at St. Luke CME Church with the Rev. Anretha Walker, officiating. Burial will be at St. Luke Cemetery in Ozan, with arrangements by Hicks Funeral Home, Inc. in Hope.

Born April 1, 1951 in Fulton County, had had lived in Dawson County over 8 years having moved from Forsyth County.

TREMONT - Wanda Mae Ayers, 68, of Tremont, Ill., died at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at Pekin Manor in Pekin, Ill.
She was born May 23, 1941, in Battle Creek, Mich., to Dale and Pauline Laxton Kissinger.
Surviving are one son, David (Amy) Ayers of Tremont; one daughter, Angela Toungett of Lawrenceburg, Tenn.; one granddaughter, Camiella Ayers; three brothers, Dale Kissinger Jr., Bobby Kissinger and Danny Kissinger of Battle Creek, Mich.; and three sisters, Carol Scroggins [48618] and Virginia St. John, both of Battle Creek, Mich., and Judy Hamlin of Corbin, Ky.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Lawrence J. and Thomas D. Wise; and one sister, Patsy Wright.
Wanda was a member of First Baptist Church in Morton, Ill.
She owned and operated the Alamac Motel in Tremont for 30 years.
Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday, June 22, 2009, at Davis Mortuary, Tremont Chapel. The Rev. David Craig will officiate. Visitation will be from 12 noon until the time of services Monday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Tremont.

Howard Neal Wilson, age 41, of Wewahitchka, Fla., passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2009. He was born Oct. 29, 1967, in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
Neal is survived by his wife, Sheila M. Wilson; one daughter, Cassandra J. Wilson; one son, Westley N. Wilson; grandmother, Merle Wilson; mother, Jeanette Scroggins [48802] and stepfather, Shelley Scroggins 39589]; one sister, Susan Guidry and husband Pierre; one brother, Doug Wilson and wife Leigh; three stepsisters, Cheryl Campbell, Loretta Crossley, and Margie Renfro; three nieces, three nephews, and his fellow coworkers of the IGA in Wewahitchka.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 20, 2009, at the Black Creek United Methodist Church, beginning at 11 a.m., with Pastors Bill Hunter and Louis Taunton officiating. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Black Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery.
