Ellen Bradford
LEONARD - Ellen Ruth Bradford was born March 5, 1929 at Emory, Texas to Henry Childers and Sarah Stephens Childers. Ruth Childers married Alvin Scroggins [39091?] with whom she had her five daughters. He preceded her in death. She later married Hiarm Bradford on March 21, 1986. Ellen Ruth Bradford, 80 of Leonard, Texas, died Friday, July 3, 2009 in her sleep at her residence in Leonard, Texas, after a year long battle with cancer.
Ruth always had a smile on her face and never met a stranger. She was always laughing and cutting up. She was famous for whistling outside her home to call her children home. All her neighbors knew she was wanting her daughters when she whistled. She was a fantastic seamstress sewing all of her daughter's clothes. If her daughters found something in the store they liked. She could make it for them. She loved to quilt. She made baby quilts for all of her grandchildren. Up until her last moments she was planning her next quilt. All of her quilts were hand-made and are very special to her family.
She is survived by daughter, Shirley Fagan of Leonard; daughter, Martha Winton of Dodd City; daughter, Mary Cox of Milton, Florida; daughter, Ruby Johnson of Leonard; brother, Thomas Childers of Emory; sister, Ruby Williams of Leonard; brother, Jimmy Childers of Whitewright; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents, Henry and Sarah Childers; husband, Alvin Scroggins; husband, Hiarm Bradford; daughter, Alva Dunlap; granddaughter, Sheila Jefferson; great-grandson, Larry May; brothers, Albert and Bufford Childers.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, Leonard, Texas. Officiating the service will be Rev. Rick Richardson and Rev. Brett Castle. Burial will follow at Leonard Cemetery in Leonard, Texas.
Family and friends are invited to the funeral home at their convenience on Monday to pay their respects and to sign the register book. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Monday, July 6, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Leonard, Texas.
