Elvie Wesley Murphy, 85, Boise, died Oct. 20, 2006 at Samaritan Village Nursing Home. Memorial Services were held on Monday Oct. 23, at the North Kingdom Hall of Jehovah´s Witnesses. He was born on April 19. 1921 in Grandview, Idaho to Andrew and Laura Murphy. Elvie attended valley schools. After leaving the Navy, he married Jeannine Rankin of Boise on Aug. 17, 1947. They were both baptized as Jehovah´s Witnesses in the spring of 1956. He attended Boise Jr. College, learning to be a carpenter/cabinet maker as well as auto body/painting. He used his construction skills in building and repairing Kingdom Halls in the area. He enjoyed time with his family, especially when attending conventions together with them. Elvie is survived by his wife, Jeannine, Boise; sons Leslie (Sandra), Challis; David (Larilynn), Meridian; Perry (Dawn), Boise; daughters Susan and John Fisher, Boise, Cynthia and Mark Nordyke, Salem, Ore., Sheila and Michael Scroggin, Boise. There are eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Surviving siblings include seven brothers, Carrol, Clifford, Lloyd, Norman, Donald, LaVon, and Larry; sister, Pearl. Elvie was preceded in death by two sisters Marguerite and Eveline and five brothers, Ivan, Raymond, Marvin, Melvin and Allen. As a Christian, Elvie found special joy in sharing his hope found in the Bible of the time when our Creator, Jehovah God, will make this earth a paradise under the rulership of His dear son, Christ Jesus, all because of the ransom paid. Elvie looked forward to seeing wonderful blessings found in the Bible including the resurrection hope which not only sustained him, but especially sustains our family through this sad time. We truly look forward to welcoming Elvie back in the earthly resurrection, young and full of energy, like our God, Jehovah, intended in the first place. We want to be there to welcome him back soon! CLARENDON - Patricia Ruth Land Scroggins, 70, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Rowe Cemetery in Hedley with the Rev. Lance Wood, pastor of First Baptist Church in Clarendon, and Patrick Robertson officiating. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.

Mrs. Scroggins was born in Hedley, Donley County to Jack and Mary Magdaline 'Maggie' McCalister Land. She had been a resident of Donley County for more than 40 years. She married Billy Ray Scroggins in 1955 in Las Vegas. He preceded her in death in 1991.

She had worked as a bookkeeper, landscaper and, most recently, as a nurses aide at Medical Center Nursing Home in Clarendon prior to her retirement. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Clarendon.

Survivors include a daughter, Lynda Mattingly and husband James of Tulsa, Okla.; and a grandson, Billy Jack Mattingly of Tulsa.

Funeral Here for Lee Scroggins, 86

Funeral services for Lee Scroggins, 86, of Rockford, Ill., were held Wednesday afternoon at Huffman Memorial Chapel here with the Rev. John Stemple of Woodlawn Christian church officiating.  Interment was in the Lake City cemetery.

Mr. Scroggins, who died at a nursing home in Cherry Valley, Ill., had been ill about three years.  He was born in Lake City and was a drayman and road maintenance worker here before going to Rockford in 1945.

Surviving are six sons: John Scroggins of Kalamazoo, Michigan; Robert Scroggins, Lake City; Alfred Scroggins, Anderson, Calif.; Roland Scroggins, Aurora, Ill.; Henry Scroggins, Redding, Calif.; Fred Scroggins, Rockford, Ill.; a daughter, Mrs. Archie Wood, Lake City; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.  His wife preceded him in death in 1954.

Services at Lake City For Lee Scroggins

LAKE CITY - Funeral services for Lee Scroggins, 86, Rockford, Ill., were Wednesday at Huffman Memorial Chapel, Lake city, the Rev. John Stemple officiating.

Pallbearers were Gerald lasher, A. M. Lundberg, Dale Wadsworth, John Molitor, Archie Rice, and LeRoy Morgan.  Burial was in Lake City cemetery.

Mr. Scroggins died Sunday in a nursing home in Cherry Valley, Ill.  He had been ill for three years.

Lee Scroggins, son of Alfred and Rebecca Woods Scroggins, was born July 24, 1878 at Lake City, and attended Lake City schools.  On April 6, 1897, he was married to Cora Jane Green at Lake City.

For 32 years he worked on the Calhoun County maintenance crew, and also operated a dray line in Lake City.  In 1945 he and Mrs. Scroggin moved to Rockford, Ill.  She died in 1954.

He is survived by six sons: John of Kalamazoo, Mich.; Alfred of Anderson, Calif.; Roland of Aurora, Ill.; Henry of Redding, Calif.; Fred of Rockford, Ill.; and Robert of Lake City; a daughter, Mrs. Archie (Genevieve) Wood, Lake City; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded by his wife, parents, a son, Bert, two grandchildren, two sisters, and seven brothers.

MEARL L. SCROGGINS

Services for Mearl L. Scroggins, 52, 430 2nd St. NW, will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Bruce Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Percy Walley, Dayton, pastor of Riverview Baptist Church, Fort Dodge, officiating.  Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery.  There will be a flag presentation by members of the American Legion and Veterans of World War II.  Friends may call after 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Mr. Scroggins was dead on arrival at Trinity West Hospital Tuesday.  He had been in ill health for about four years.
Surviving are the widow; daughters, Mrs. Larry Semprini, White Bear Lake, Minn.; Mrs. James Dally, Lutz, Fla.; five grandchildren; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Scroggins, Sr.; a twin brother, Earl Scroggins, Jr., all of Fort Dodge; and a sister, Mrs. Glen Fulton, Boise, Idaho.

Mr. Scroggins was born at Gilmore City and moved to Rockwell City as a child with his parents.  He attended the schools there, and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941.

He married Miriam Wade in 1942 in Frisco, Tex., and they lived in Frisco until moving to Fort Dodge in 1948.  He was employed at Geo. A. Hormel & Co. until 1970, when he retired due to disabilities.

LIFELONG RESIDENT OF COMMUNITY DEAD

Mrs. J. F. Ross, Jr., Was Born And Raised in Rockwell City; Aged 36

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Rockwell City Christian church for Mrs. John F. Ross, Jr., of southwest of Rockwell City, who died suddenly Wednesday night at the age of 36.
Rev. Roy B. Weakland, pastor of the Christian church in Lake City, conducted the services.  Mrs. Ross was laid to rest in Lake Creek cemetery.

She had suffered from heart trouble most of her life.  Death followed a hear attack at a hospital in Lake City, where she had recently been a patient.

Mrs. Ross had been born in Rockwell City and spent her entire life in this community.  She graduated from Rockwell City high school in the class of 1920 and taught one year in a Calhoun County rural school.

Surviving are Mr. Ross and four children, Junior, Mary Jane, Dale, and Eldon; two brothers, Earl Scroggins of Rockwell City and Darwin Fisher of Laurens; two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Hortsman of Rockwell City and Mrs. Claude Wisthoff of Fort Dodge; and several uncles and aunts and other relatives.

Mrs. Mary Agnes Clendenen, well known and esteemed resident of the Copeland Christian church community all her life, and who lived five miles southwest of Mount Pulaski, died at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, 1945 in St. Clara's Hospital, Lincoln, Ill., aged 85 years, 5 months, and 22 days.  Although she had been in feeble health for many months, her last illness was of short duration.  During the early hours of Sunday morning, she suffered a stroke and was removed to the hospital in the Schahl ambulance.
Mary Agnes Scroggin was born Feb. 9, 1860, five miles southwest of Mount Pulaski, daughter of Leonard D. and Mary Sims Scroggin, pioneers of this community.  She was united in marriage to John H. Clendenen on Jan. 8, 1890, and they observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1940.  Her husband preceded her in death on August 2, 1943.  She was the last member of the Scroggin family to survive.

She had been an active and faithful member of the Copeland Christian church for 60 years, and taught a bible class there for 44 years.  She was a member of the church's Ladies Aid.

Decedent is survived by two daughters, Mrs. William Burris, of Atlanta, and Mrs. Ellis Quandt, with whom she made her home; and three grandchildren, Eloise, Paul, and Leon Quandt.

The remains were removed to the Schahl Funeral Home, and taken to the family residence on Wednesday afternoon.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, in Copeland Christian church, conducted by Rev. Kenneth Hooe, of Blue Mound, assisted by the pastor, Raymond Huffman, of San Jose.  "Under His Wings" was sung by Myrna and Glenna Copeland, and George and Clarence Bowers, and "The Holy City" was sung by John Bowers.  The accompanist was Miss Joyce Bowers.

Burial was in Steenbergen Cemetery, pallbearers being Herbert Shellhammer, Donald Copeland, Willis Ayers, George Gulso, Charles Herring, and Fred Bellati.

In charge of the flowers were Mrs. Clarence Bowers, Mrs. Richard Drabing, Mrs. Herbert Shellhammer, and Mrs. Donald Copeland.

MT. PULASKI - The funeral for John H. Clendenen will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Copeland Christian Church and burial will be made in Steenbergen Cemetery, with the Rev. L. H. Hooe, of Tuscola, Ill., officiating.

The body was removed from the Schahl Funeral Home to the Clendenen residence Tuesday.

COPELAND, MRS. SARAH M. - Died at 12:20 p.m., Feb. 19, 1922, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Milton Green, 5 miles southwest of Rochester, at the age of 68 years, 3 months, and 2 days.  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 21 at the residence and 2 p.m. at the Copeland church in Logan County, the Rev. L. E. Chase of Decatur officiating.  Surviving are one son, W. C. Copeland; one daughter, Mrs. Milton Green; and six grandchildren, all of Rochester.  Interment will be in Steenbergen Cemetery near Mt. Pulaski.

Andrew Copeland

Died at 7:30 o'clock Saturday evening, May 27, 1911, at St. John's Hospital, Andrew Copeland of Berry, aged 58 years, 11 months, and 18 days.
The decedent is survived by his wife, Margaret Copeland; his son, Willis Copeland; and his daughter, Mrs. Florence Green, all of Berry.
The remains have been taken to the undertaking establishment of C. T. Branson, from where they will be sent to Mt. Pulaski, where the funeral will be held from the Christian church.
Interment will be made in Steenbergen Cemetery.

FORMER RESIDENT DIES IN DECATUR

A patient in the Decatur and Macon Hospital since May 26, Mrs. Harriett L.
Meliza, of 518 West Sawyer Street, Decatur, died in the hospital at 11:37
p.m. Tuesday, June 25, 1946.

Harriett L. Scroggin was born about 74 years ago in Champaign, Ill., a
daughter of Watt and Harriett Sherry Scroggin. Her mother died when she
was quite young, and she was brought to Mount Pulaski and reared to
womanhood by her grandmother, Mrs. David Sherry. She attended Mount
Pulaski schools, and in 1903 married Arthur Meliza, who was employed as an
operator in the old switch tower at the Illinois Central junction. They
moved to Decatur in 1908, Mr. Meliza continuing to work for the
railroad. Decedent was a member of the Mount Pulaski Christian Church,
Starlight Rebekah Lodge No. 767, Decatur, and the Past Grand Nobles Club.

She is survived by her husband; one brother, W. H. Scroggin, of Pilot Rock,
Ore.; two sisters, Mrs. Gussie Cartmell of Little Rock, Ark., and Mrs.
Daisy O'Brien of Los Angeles, Calif. There are several relatives living here.
The body was removed to the Dawson & Wykoff Funeral Home in Decatur, where
funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Mount
Pulaski Cemetery.

Ruth graduated from Forest Glade, TX high school. She married Walter
Arthur BARTZ on June 7, 1930 in Odem, TX. They had 2 sons & 2 daughters.
She worked as an airplane mechanic during World War II.
