Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, McPherson. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at St. Bridget's of Sweden Catholic Church, Lindsborg. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Bridget's. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery, Lindsborg. Memorials to Beth Reed Memorial Fund. Andrew Joseph Niekamp

Andrew Joseph Niekamp, 80, of Waco, formerly of Marlin, entered into rest Saturday, June 7, 2008. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m.. Wednesday, June 11, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Marlin, with the Rev. John Boiko as celebrant. Burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Lott, Texas. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday, at Adams Funeral Home with family visitation before and after the service.

Andrew was born Oct. 12, 1927, in Lott, to John Henry and Annie Mathilda Renz Niekamp. He was employed by Central Texas Iron Works from 1952 until 1985, at which time he retired as a department supervisor. He was then engaged in farming and ranching with his brother in the Riesel area until his health prevented him from continuing. Andrew was an active member of the Marlin council of Knights of Columbus for over 50 years, serving in many offices including Grand Knight. He was instrumental in purchasing property and constructing a K.C. hall. He was very active and believed very strongly in the Knights and in what they stood for until his health began to fail. He attended a number of state conventions as a voting delegate from the Marlin Council. Andrew enjoyed getting the family together at the farm for bar-b-ques and fish fries. He liked attending high school football games to watch his nephews play.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Lynton and Ida Niekamp;and a brother, Robert Niekamp.

Survivors include brothers, Anton Niekamp of Riesel, Raymond Niekamp of Waco, and Alvin Niekamp of Waco; sisters, Dorothy Descoteaux of Windsor, Conn., and Irene Scroggins of DeSoto, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Mary Ann was a Veteran of the Vietnam War and Desert Storm War, retired and was Honorably Discharge from the United States Air Force. She was also a Sunday school teacher for the past 16 years while serving in the armed forces. She was a past member of the Assumption Catholic Church in Harlingen, Texas, where she was C.C.E. Coordinator Director. She was a member of the Enrichment Program for the Catholic Parish in the U.K. Europe. She was awarded the Angel Volunteer Award for her service at Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Michigan. Mrs. Trevino is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Juan G. Trevino; her children, Eloy Trevino, and Marianela Sheldon; 4 grandchildren, Jacob Trevino, Mauricio Trevino, Alison Marie Sheldon and Holly Beth Sheldon; 2 sisters, Rita Carte and Linda Scroggins; 2 brothers, Clarence Gunderman, Charles Glen Watson, and other relatives. Message: [sister of Faye Scroggins] Zelma C. Henderson 88, passed away Tuesday May 20, 2008. Zelma was born south of Colby, KS to Thomas L. Hurst and Pansy Belle Hurst on February 29, 1920. She attended school in Oakley, KS, graduated in 1939 and came to Topeka in the forties. She was a 60 plus member of St. John A.M.E. Church, where she served as steward, trustee and was consecrated as a deaconess. She met her husband Andrew Henderson, married in 1943 and from this union two children were born; Donald and Vicki. Her husband and daughter preceded her in death; she was also preceded in death by five siblings, four brothers (Kermit, Clayton, Everett and Leland) and one sister Faye Scroggins. She is survived by one son, Donald A. (Maggie) Henderson, Sr., of Topeka, KS, one sister, Mary Catherine Ponds, of Everett, Washington, five grandchildren, Donald Henderson, Jr., and Mellaney Henderson, both of Topeka, Carolyn White, Florida, Angelique Hill, Columbus, GA, Eric Mace, Phoenix, Arizona and fifteen great grandchildren. Zelma worked about five years at Topeka State Hospital as charge aide of her ward. She also attended cosmetology school at KVS and graduated in 1949. She opened and worked in her beauty shop for thirty two years before retiring. She had many hobbies such as knitting, crocheting and oil acrylic painting. She also loved bowling; she was a member of St. Johns Bowling League and later joined three other leagues and traveled with a team in the international tournaments. She bowled long enough to receive her Duchess Trophy. She also belonged to LaSenioritas Social Club for many years. In 1994 Zelma attended a reception in Washington, D.C. hosted by President and Mrs. Clinton. She was awarded Life time membership of the NAACP and she was one of the thirteen plaintiffs in Brown vs The Board of Education Civil Rights Suit. She was also one of the five that testified in court. She was the last living survivor of the thirteen plaintiffs. Instate: Monday, May 26; 4-8 p.m. at Bowser Johnson Funeral Chapel where family will receive family and friends from 6-8 p.m. Service: Tuesday, May 27; 1:00 p.m., at St. John A.M.E. church with burial at Mount Hope Cemetery. Funeral services are planned for Thursday, May 15 at 1 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley. Burial will follow at Shawmut Cemetery.

Mrs. Pike is survived by two daughters, Deborah Sanders Scroggins and Donna Sanders (James) Jones, both of Prattville; four grandchildren, Crystal (Rodney) Price, Mechelle (Kirk) McKinley, Ashley Jones and Joshua Jones; three great-grandchildren, Ariel Scroggins, Tiffany Price and Allen McKinley; two sisters, Hazel (James) Henson of Pine Mountain and Gloria (Michael) Coley of Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews.

Born Oct. 16, 1930 in Chambers County, Mrs. Pike was the daughter of the late Nannie Lee Underwood White and Joseph White. She was a retired employee of George H. Lanier Memorial Nursing Home. Mrs. Pike had also worked for many years at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital, Lanett Geriatric Center and the LaFayette Hospital. She was a member of Plant City Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 14 from 7 until 9 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.

Benjamin Thomas Hardisty Jr.

Services: Have been held.

Benjamin Thomas �Benny� Hardisty Jr., 80, of Clovis died Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at Retirement Ranch in Clovis.

He was born Sept. 22, 1924, to Benjamin Thomas and Dolly Preuit Hardisty in Lamesa, Texas. He married Nadine Scroggins on Sept. 16, 1955, in Portales. He was a cattleman and a bookkeeper. He also was the partner and operator of Ranchers and Farmers Livestock Auction, worked for Whiteway Cattle for many years, and was the office manager for Mesa Feed Lots. He has spent his entire life in the Clovis area serving the livestock producers as head of the bookkeeping department and selling cattle. He was a member of Sandia Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and an infant sister.

He is survived by his wife, a son, Chuck Hardisty (and wife, Jan) of Clovis; a daughter, Kathy Franson of Clovis; two brothers, Jerry Hardisty (Danna) of Marble Falls, Texas, Dan Hardisty (Barbara) of Ruidoso Downs; three sisters, Lucy Harrison (Paul) of Clovis; Helen Mercer (Allen) of Albuquerque, and Carolyn Hardisty Ruiz of Nogalas, Ariz.; and three grandchildren, Dustin Hardisty (Amy) of Amarillo, Dr. Kelly Tabacchi (Todd) of Overland Park, Kan., and Valerie Franson of Clovis.

The Rev. Hoyt Welch and Rev. Jason Swoops will officiate services.

Burial will follow at Mission Garden of Memories.

Pallbearers are Douglas and Mark Harrison, Dennis, Tony, Johnny and Tommy Hardisty, Rick and Harvey Hudspeth, and Bobby and Benny Martin.

Honorary pallbearers are his nieces.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Giden Bible Group or a charity of choice.

Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home, Inc. of Clovis.

Tulsa native Stephan Scroggins might have a Ph. D., but that doesn't mean
he's smarter than a ?fthgrader when it comes to math.

Scroggins, a registered nurse with a Ph.D. in public health, appeared on
Thursday night's edition of "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?"

During the $5,000 question in the category "Third-GradeMath," Scroggins
peeked at ?fthgrade student Sierra's answer to the question "If a pound of
peanuts costs 48 cents, how much does ? of a pound of peanuts cost?"

Sierra guessed 40 cents while the correct answer was 30 cents, leaving
Scroggins without any winnings.Worse, he had to look into the camera and
say "I may have a Ph.D., but I am not smarter than a ?fth-grader."

Scroggins attended Walt Whitman Elementary School. He now lives in Los Angeles.

"Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?" airs at 8 p.m. Thursdays on Fox
channel 23 and cable channel 5.

Mrs. Pike is survived by two daughters, Deborah Sanders Scroggins and Donna Sanders (James) Jones, both of Prattville; four grandchildren, Crystal (Rodney) Price, Mechelle (Kirk) McKinley, Ashley Jones and Joshua Jones; three great-grandchildren, Ariel Scroggins, Tiffany Price and Allen McKinley; two sisters, Hazel (James) Henson of Pine Mountain and Gloria (Michael) Coley of Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews.

Born Oct. 16, 1930 in Chambers County, Mrs. Pike was the daughter of the late Nannie Lee Underwood White and Joseph White. She was a retired employee of George H. Lanier Memorial Nursing Home. Mrs. Pike had also worked for many years at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital, Lanett Geriatric Center and the LaFayette Hospital. She was a member of Plant City Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 14 from 7 until 9 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.

Message: CANTRELL, Dr. Richard Born on June 29, 1910 in Greenfield, TN, went to be with his Savior May 12, 2008. Preceded by loving wife, Ada Frances Cantrell. Loving father of Kay Wills, Phyllis Stephens, Mary Scroggins, and Paul Cantrell. Also survived by sisters, Margaret Jeter and Dorothy Grimes; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Richard pastored four churches over 40 years, taught at Brethren High School, Long Beach; California Bible College, SF; Shasta Bible College Extension School; and San Francisco Theological Seminary. Memorial service on Sunday, May 18 at 6:00pm at Faith Bible Church, 8071 Old Auburn Road, Citrus Heights. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his name to Faith Bible Church Missions Fund.
