Andrew Joseph Niekamp


Andrew Joseph Niekamp, 80, of Waco, formerly of Marlin, entered into rest Saturday, June 7, 2008. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m.. Wednesday, June 11, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Marlin, with the Rev. John Boiko as celebrant. Burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Lott, Texas. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday, at Adams Funeral Home with family visitation before and after the service.


Andrew was born Oct. 12, 1927, in Lott, to John Henry and Annie Mathilda Renz Niekamp. He was employed by Central Texas Iron Works from 1952 until 1985, at which time he retired as a department supervisor. He was then engaged in farming and ranching with his brother in the Riesel area until his health prevented him from continuing. Andrew was an active member of the Marlin council of Knights of Columbus for over 50 years, serving in many offices including Grand Knight. He was instrumental in purchasing property and constructing a K.C. hall. He was very active and believed very strongly in the Knights and in what they stood for until his health began to fail. He attended a number of state conventions as a voting delegate from the Marlin Council. Andrew enjoyed getting the family together at the farm for bar-b-ques and fish fries. He liked attending high school football games to watch his nephews play.


He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Lynton and Ida Niekamp;and a brother, Robert Niekamp.


Survivors include brothers, Anton Niekamp of Riesel, Raymond Niekamp of Waco, and Alvin Niekamp of Waco; sisters, Dorothy Descoteaux of Windsor, Conn., and Irene Scroggins of DeSoto, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.


Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
