AVON - Ruth Ann (Cobb) Barlowe was born in Marion to the late Henry and Edith Ann (Pettiford) Cobb. She lived most of her lifetime in Marion. She departed this life Wednesday at Avon Healthcare Center after an extended illness.
Jan. 15, 1945, she married Mayo Scroggins Sr. To this union, six children were born. She later married James E. Davis Sr. Then in 1969, she married Clarence Barlowe Jr. Ruth Ann attended Marion schools and worked at RCA for 19® years before retiring in 1968. In later years, she worked as resident manager for Prince Hall Housing Authority for approximately three years.
Ruth Ann confessed her faith in Christ at an early age. She was very active in church, community and political functions, offering her beautiful voice in song or preparing special meals. She served under the Rev. J.D. Williams, Greater Second Baptist Church, for many years and later became a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, serving under the Rev. C.L. Adams prior to relocating to Indianapolis.
Ruth Ann loved singing, bowling and cooking. She was always willing to help anyone in any way possible and became "Grandma" to many. She was a former member of the Daughters of I.B.P.O.E. of W. and once served as their state queen. She was a former member of the ChickA-Wa-Wa's and the Indy All-Star Clubs. She became ill in 1995 and was cared for by her daughter, Cyrece, for the following six years prior to entering a nursing facility.
She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Jerry Mac (Twanna) Scroggins, Orlando, Fla., and Mayo Scroggins Jr., Sacramento, Calif.; three daughters, Eleanor Louise Scroggins, Fayetteville, N.C., and Mary Maxine Brewer and Cyrece Ann (Scroggins) Fashola, both of Indianapolis; sister, Nettie Barnett; brother, Coy O. Cobb; five granddaughters, Tomia Scroggins, Tara Keys, Heather "Missy" Scroggins, Desiree' Hacker, Iwanda Dew and Terri Brewer; adopted granddaughter, Margaret Smith; five grandsons, Dion R. Cannon Sr., Scott Brewer, Josh Scroggins, Kyle Erickson and Michall (Dejuan) Jones; 31 great-grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
She also was preceded in death by a son, Larry M. Scroggins; siblings, Calvin J. Cobb, Ammie (Marjorie) Stewart and Elizabeth Murrell; and a dear aunt, Beulah Malone.
Services are at 1 p.m. Monday in St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 1204 W. 14th St., Marion, with the Rev. C.L. Adams officiating. Burial is in Grant Memorial Park cemetery, Marion.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - Pauline Bebout, 66, 30 Oak Manor Drive, formerly of Jonesboro, died Wednesday in her residence.
She was born in Marion, the daughter of the late John H. and Hulda M. (Overman) Mansbarger. She married David E. Bebout on March 6, 1959. He survives.
She was a waitress at Hampton Inn, Cocoa Beach, Fla., Chris's Cafe and Dot's Diner in Jonesboro and Vogel's Donut Shop in Marion. She formerly worked at Foster-Forbes in Marion. She attended Epworth School in Jonesboro.
Additional survivors include a son, David Bebout, Havelock, N.C.; daughters, Debbie Rae VanDine, Greenville, Texas, and Penny Lynn Owings, Gas City; brothers, (twin) Paul (Ruth) Mansbarger, Gas City, and Woodrow (Elvie) Cloud, Florida; sister, Catherine Broyles, Gas City; sisters-in-law, Minnie and Alma Mansbarger; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by brothers, Robert Cloud, Wilber Henry, John, Charles, William Mansbarger and Jacob Mansbarger; and a sister, Roda May Henderson.

Martha Lucille Blinn
July 19, 1918 - April 21, 2005
Martha Lucille Blinn, 86, Marion, entered eternity to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday at her home in the presence of loved ones.
She was born in Grant County to the late Dwight Wilcox and Ruth Leora (Small) Dragstrem. She married Samuel Blinn on Aug. 19, 1940. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Blinn was a retired homemaker, nurse's aide and 4-H leader. She was a charter member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church and a faithful Christian. She was a gracious and caring woman who shared her warmth, humor, kindness and generosity with everyone around her. Her home was a haven to all, from troubled Marion youth during the 1950s, who came to the farm to learn life skills, to her youngest great-grandchild, who trusted and adored her. She will be missed by all who knew her and by a family that loved her.
Survivors include sons, Edwin "Ed" (Sandy) Blinn and David (Lucille) Blinn, both of Marion; daughters, Janet (Charles) Sweeney, Cromwell, Sammie Ann (John) Dembosz, American Canyon, Calif., Kathleen and Donna Blinn, both of Marion, Nancy (James) Koudelka, Port Orchard, Wash., and Marilyn Blen, Yamhill, Ore.; a brother, James Dragstrem, Palm Coast, Fla.; sister, Mary Catherine Nierste, Marion; 28 grandchildren; and 45 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne Dee and John Alvin; and a sister, Sarah Evelyn Dragstrem.

GAS CITY - Mrs. Minnie K. (Tullock) Cotter, 60, died suddenly Tuesday in her Gas City residence.
She was born in Greeneville, Tenn., the daughter of the late Roy Lee Tullock Sr. and Mary (Bowman) Tullock. Minnie and her late husband, Dennis E. Cotter, started the Bee-Line Taxi Cab in the late 1960s. She was previously employed at General Tire, Wabash, St. Regis Paper Co., Meshingomesia Country Club and Squirt's Bar, all of Marion.
She is survived by a daughter, Kim (Cotter) Cottrell, Van Buren; three sons, Michael E. "Mickey" (Danielle) Cotter, New Ulm, Minn., and John D. Cotter and Joseph F. "Joey" Cotter, both of Gas City; a brother, Roy Lee "Junior" (Sharon) Tullock, Greeneville, Tenn.; two sisters, Nancy C. (Frankie) Tripplett, Rogersville, Tenn., and Kaneta Benbow, Swayzee; companion/friend of 34 years, Mark Julian; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

JONESBORO - Joann K. Oden, 74, went to be with the Lord on Friday at 12:45 a.m. at Bradner Village Healthcare Center, Marion.
She was born in Buchanan, Mich., to the late Earl M. and Katherine Augusta (Walters) Sutton. She grew up in Amboy and graduated from Converse High School. She married Paul Oden on Oct. 5, 1952, in Amboy, and he survives. They later moved to Jonesboro where they resided for 36 years.
She was a homemaker and formerly worked as a telephone operator in Amboy. She loved people, especially her family and enjoyed talking to everyone. She was a member of the Wesleyan Church and attended Westview Wesleyan Church in Jonesboro.
Additional survivors include sons, Brian (Tina) Oden, and Mark (Sara Kim) Oden, both of Jonesboro; a daughter, Norma (Teddy) Dickey, Anderson; brother, Larry (Sandy) Sutton, Amboy; a sister, Marjorie (Howard) Bates, Gas City; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Garry Jones, 47, passed away at Marion General Hospital on Tuesday.
He enjoyed singing, cooking and spending time with his grandchildren. He attended Calvary Baptist Church and was formerly employed by R&R Truck and Radiator Service. He had been a member of the community for 39 years. He professed Christ at an early age under the leadership of the late Rev. John Speikes at New Light Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Vera Cole, Marion; mother, Ruby Jones, Marion; three daughters, Casandra L. Brown, Natecia Guy and Tomika Guy, all of Marion; a son, Michael Guy, Marion; six brothers, Ulysses (Elizabeth) Jones, Southbury, N.C., Leroy (Diana) Jones Jr., Marion, James E. Jones, Chicago, Jerry (Missy) Jones, Montevella, Ala., Lee (Elaine) Jones, and Cubie (Debra) Jones Sr., both of Marion; three sisters, Geraldine Miller and Erma (Roy Lee) Harvey, both of Marion, and Anita (Rudolph) Thomas, Ripley, Tenn.; six grandchildren; and hosts of nieces, nephews and many special friends, who will sadly miss him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leroy Jones Sr., and his brother, Hosay Jones.

Jack R. Bryant
Feb. 17, 1940 - April 21, 2005
CONVERSE - Jack R. Bryant, 65, died at 8 p.m. Thursday in his residence.
He was born in Burnside, Ky. to the late Oliver and Mildred (Wyatt) Bryant and had been a resident of the Converse area since 1964. He married Mary E. Steely on Aug. 26, 1961. She died on Nov. 15, 1999. He then married Atha E. Savage on May 18, 2003. She died on Feb. 13, 2005.
He retired from General Motors in 2002 after 36 years. He was a member and served as on officer in the union of Local 977. He was also a member of the Converse Masonic Lodge 601. He enjoyed being outside and working in the yard. He served with the Marines.
Survivors include daughter, Denise (Randy) Miller, Wabash; sons, Paul Bryant, Converse, Rob Savage, Kentucky, and David (Lori) Savage, Westchester, Ohio; grandchildren, Izaac Bryant, Bill, Brandon, Angel and Bryant Miller, and Zack and Alex Savage; brothers-in-law, Everett (Imogene) Steely, Sweetser, Albert (Cathy) Steely, Amboy, and Joe (Yvonne) Steely, Middlesboro, Ky.; sisters-in-aw, Lillie (Gary) Taylor, Pritchett, W. Va., and Anetha Gail Steely, Middlesboro, Ky.
He also was preceded in death by two brothers.

James Miles Hawkins
July 8, 1957-April 20, 2005
LaFONTAINE - James Miles Hawkins, 47, died Wednesday, at the University of Chicago in Chicago, Ill.
He was born to Richard and Eleanor (Jimmerson) Hawkins. He formerly was employed as a production worker at General Motors and served in the Army. He married Tamara (Emry) Hawkins on March 6, 1990.
James had a big heart and enjoyed doing anything anyone asked of him. He was a loving father, grandfather and uncle but will be fondly remembered as a man who loved all children and took care of many. He loved camping, fishing, boating and traveling and always talked about going back to Florida.
Along with his wife, Tami, and mother, Eleanor, he is survived by his two sons, James (Kelly) and John (Wendy) Hawkins, both of Marion; daughter, Stacie Hawkins, Marion; four grandchildren, Kali, Kristen, Justin and Jaren Miles; four brothers, Ronald (Kathy) and Donnie Borrow and David Hawkins, all of Marion, and Billy (Alice) Hawkins, Alexandria; and one sister, Debbie Emry, Marion.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard; brother, Fletcher; and sister, Paula.

TUCSON, Ariz. - William J. "Pete" Wampler, 80, a veteran of the Marine Corps and a former member of the Indiana House of Representatives, died Sunday in Tucson.
A native of Bloomington, and long-time resident of Marion, Pete and his wife of 58 years, Betty, had resided in Arizona since 1992. Mr. Wampler served in the Marine Corps during World War II from 1943 to 1946 as a corporal. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon with four stars and the Presidential Unit Citation.
After the war, Pete enrolled at Indiana University where he met the former Betty Boxell. They were married Aug. 17, 1946. Pete continued his education at I.U., where he majored in business. Pete was a member of Lamba Chi Alpha fraternity, Sphinx Club and Skull and Crescent. A sousaphone player, he also became sergeant major of the Marching Hundred Band under the direction of Dr. Newell Long.
After his education at I.U., Pete and Betty settled in Marion, where Pete became a successful gasoline retailer and representative of U-Haul Rentals.
Active among Grant County Republicans, Pete was elected to the Indiana House of Representatives in 1961 where he served the House Ways and Means committee.
Pete served as president of Hoosier Gasoline Retailers, president of the Indiana Petroleum Retailers Association, president of the Grant County Scottish Rite and president of the Indiana University Alumni Club of Grant County. Pete was a 50-year member of Samaritan Lodge 105 F&AM, the Fort Wayne Body of Scottish Rite, Mizpha Temple and Scottish Rite Club of Marion.
Pete was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church of Marion, a life member of the Indiana University Alumni Association, a 50-year member of Meshingomesia Country Club and a 30-year member of the Columbia Club of Indianapolis.
Pete was honored to be invited to, and attended, the presidential inaugurations of Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan.
Pete also enjoyed world travel, and trips took him to Russia, Japan, China, Egypt, Australia, Thailand and many other countries.
The only child of John and Eunice Wampler of Bloomington, Pete is survived by Betty and their two sons, Michael Wampler, Aspen, Colo., and Jon (Susan) Wampler, Newport Beach, Calif.; and three grandchildren, Margot, Peter and Lucas Wampler.
Pete will be remembered for his love of family and his enjoyment of music, in particular jazz. He played piano, organ and bass. He also had a tremendous sense of humor. He will be missed by family and friends.
Pete asked that his body be cremated. A memorial service will take place at Oro Valley United Church at 3 p.m. Tuesday. After the service, a celebration of his life will take place at Saddlebrooke Country Club.
