Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Wells under the direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Rusk. Mr. Atkerson was born April 12, 1930 in Gary and died Nov. 28, 2008 at his residence. He was a truck driver. Survivors: wife of 34 years, Betty Ann Atkerson; son, Cleo "Bud" Acrey; seven daughters, Nelda Scroogins, Betty Proctor, Becky Durrett, Vivian Hodges, Katherine Christie, Joy Lofton, Crystal Atkerson; 26 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

SCROGGINS, Haley Nichole, 14, precious daughter of Jason and Tammy Scroggins, resident of Prattville, AL, died unexpectedly on Friday, November 28, 2008, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at 2:00 p.m., from the Prattville Community Church, with Brother Dave Myers officiating. Burial will follow in Prattville Memory Gardens, with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. At the time of her death, Haley was an 8th Grade Student at Prattville Junior High where she was the Student Government Representative for her class. She also loved sports and was an enthusiastic player with the Prattville Girl's Softball League. In addition to her school activities, Haley gave generously of her time and talent to the Prattville Community Church Youth Group. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Dewey Ray Scroggins. In addition to her loving parents, she leaves to cherish her memories, one sister, Rebecca Scroggins; one brother, Dustin Scroggins; maternal grandparents, Laura Tatum and Jackie Hall; paternal grandmother, Sarah Scroggins; two step-grandfathers, Gerald "Jerry" Bryan and Elliott Wheeler, and many other relatives and friends who loved her dearly. She thouroughly enjoyed her weekly bridge club. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and was a founding member of St. Martha's Band of the Altar Sodality. She and John enjoyed hosting family and friends at their beach house in Panama City, FL. They also traveled extensively in their motor home, across the United States and much of Mexico for more than 35 years. Mrs. Brannon was preceded in death by her husband, John; and her sisters, Louise Holbrook and Willie Mae Scroggin. She is survived by a sister, Jeanette A. Bennett; a brother, Evans Amberson (Barbara); and her children, John E. Brannon (Christal), Sue Goodman (Martin), Dennis Brannon (Mary Ann), Shannon Jordan (Albert L.); grandchildren, Joellen Brannon, Julie Brannon (Daniel González), Christan McGinnis (Adam), John Michael Brannon, Shelley Brannon, Lanette Milligan; Brannon, Morgan, and Noel Jordan; great-grandchildren, Ashley Hendrix (Jessica), Evans Hamilton, W. JOHNSON, Astrid C. Astrid C. Johnson, 87, of Madison, died Sunday (November 9, 2008). She was the wife of the late Eugene C. Johnson. She was born in Arendal, Norway on July 30, 1921, to Halvor and Magda Baasland Gjertsen. At the age of six, she immigrated to the U.S. with her parents and two brothers. Astrid grew up in Brooklyn, NY. After marrying Gene, she lived in New Britain and Newington. In 1948, they built a summer cottage in Madison. In 1973, Astrid and Gene made Madison their full-time residence. Astrid was a long-time member of the Bethany Covenant Church of New Britain and the First Congregational Church of Madison. Astrid served her community through participation in Meals on Wheels and was an active member of the Guilford Garden Club where she pursued her lifetime enjoyment of flowers. Astrid leaves behind four children: Barbara Farmer of Leawood, KS, Brenda Scrogin and son-in-law, Colonel (Ret) Thomas Scrogin of Niceville, FL, Kristine Glass of Madison, and Ronald Johnson of North Branford; three grandchildren: Jasen Farmer of Edgewater, MD, Corey Farmer of Austin, TX and Courtney Farmer of Tampa, FL. Her great granddaughter, Leilani Emma was born on 11/29/07. Private services were held on Thursday, November 13, at Swan Funeral Home, Madison. John C. "Poppy" Brav, 57, of Manteno, died Sunday (Nov. 30, 2008) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Brown Funeral Home, Manteno. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Christian Church in Manteno, where he was a member.

Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Manteno. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family wishes.

Mr. Brav was an auto detailer at Pacesetter Trucking. He was born June 9, 1951, in East Chicago, Ind., the son of Joseph Sr. and Eva Stankevich Brav. He enjoyed playing the guitar and was a Cubs fan.

Surviving are his wife, the former Pamela Wagner, whom he married June 25, 1977, in Crown Point, Ind.; one son and daughter-in-law, Shaun and Candi Brav of Bourbonnais; one daughter, Erica Brav of Bourbonnais; four grandchildren; his parents of Cedar Lake, Ind.; one brother, Joseph Brav Jr. of Cedar Lake; and one brother-in-law, Frank Scroggins [35670] of Manteno.

Deceased are one sister, Ruth Scroggins [35849]; and his daughter's fiance, Kevin Carstensen.

NILES - Sharon K. Boyer, 61, of Cedar Street, Niles, Michigan, died at 3:25 p.m. Tuesday in Hospice House, South Bend, Indiana, following an extended illness. Sharon was born on Sept. 27, 1947, in Wichita, Kansas, to Roy Edgar and Nellora Marie (Corn) Boyer. She graduated from Wichita High School Southeast and later earned her bachelor's degree from Kansas State College at Pittsburg. Sharon retired from U.S. Ag Bank, formerly Farm Credit in Wichita. She was formerly employed by Bank IV and National Bank of Wichita. In Wichita, she was a member of the Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church, where she served as deacon, trustee, elder, treasurer, and sang in the choir. She was very interested in sports; participating in several sports including bowling leagues, and was a fan of the Saint Louis Cardinals baseball team, and was a season ticket holder to Wichita State University men's basketball. She also enjoyed reading fiction. Ms. Boyer moved to Niles in 2003, where she became a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. She and her niece, Stephanie Layman, founded "To Your Door," a delivery service for the produce of area farms. She continued in her interest in sports, bowling on area leagues here, and also enjoyed outdoor activities including camping and farming. She is survived by her brother, Terry (Teresa) Boyer of Stony Point, North Carolina; niece, Rebecca (Jay) Scroggins of Charlotte, North Carolina; and their children, twins, Samantha and Madeline Scroggins; and niece, Stephanie (Mark) Layman of Niles, and their children, twins, Austin and Dylin, Jessica and Matthew Layman. A memorial service will be held for Sharon K. Boyer at 2 p.m. Friday in Wesley United Methodist Church, with Rev. Edward H. Slate of the church officiating. A memorial service in Wichita will be announced at a later date. The family will receive friends in the church, immediately following the service. Contributions in memory of Sharon may be made to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc.; to Wesley United Methodist Church; or to Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church. Arrangements made at Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles.

VALLEY - Mr. Arthur L. Billingslea, 67, of Valley died Monday, Nov. 17, 2008 at Bethany House in Auburn. A memorial service is planned for Friday, Nov. 21 at 1 p.m. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses with Brother Marion Tabor officiating. Mr. Billingslea is survived by his loving and dedicated wife, Margie Huguley Billingslea of Valley; six sons, Zerman Billingslea of Norcross, Ga., Michael Billingslea of San Francisco, Calif., Rodney (Michelle) Billingslea of Rex, Ga., Carlos (Demetrius) Billingslea of LaGrange, Ezekiel (Carrie) Billingslea of West Point and Jason Billingslea of Auburn; 12 grandchildren; five sisters, Anita (Walter) Barton of Hampton, Va., Linda Palmer of West Point, Kathy M. Billingslea of Norcross and Van and Vicki Billingslea of West Point; two brothers, George (Gloria) Billingslea of West Seneca, N.Y., and Jeffery P. Billingslea of West Point; his mother-inlaw, Ida V. Huguley of West Point; two sisters-in-law, Mattie F. Godwin and Virginia H. Barnes, both of West Point; three brothers-in-law, Willie F. (Barbara) Huguley of Marrero, La., Eddie (Barbara) Huguley of Opelika and Burlon Huguley of West Point; special family friends, Anna Billingslea, Cheryl Stokes and Julie Rogers; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Born July 30, 1941 in Harris County, Mr. Billingslea was the son of the late George and Ida Pearl (Scroggins) Billingslea. He attended Harrison High School in West Point. His hobbies were fishing, gardening and watching basketball and football games. Mr. Billingslea was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Billingslea-Smith. He was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses. Wichita KS United States Boyer, Sharon K., 61, of Niles, Mich., formerly of Wichita, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008 following an extended illness. Born Sept. 27, 1947 in Wichita, to Roy and Nellora (Corn) Boyer, graduated from Wichita H.S. Southeast and Kansas State College (Pittsburg). Retired from U.S. Ag Bank (formerly Farm Credit) in Wichita and formerly employed at Bank IV and National Bank of Wichita. She was a member of the Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church; participated in league bowling, and enjoyed reading fiction. Ms. Boyer moved to Niles in 2003. Survived by her brother, Terry (Teresa) Boyer of Stony Point, N.C.; nieces, Rebecca Scroggins and Stephanie Layman; 6 great nieces and nephews. Service in Niles at 2 p.m. Friday at Wesley United Methodist Church. A memorial service in Wichita will be announced at a later date.
