NILES - Sharon K. Boyer, 61, of Cedar Street, Niles, Michigan, died at 3:25 p.m. Tuesday in Hospice House, South Bend, Indiana, following an extended illness. Sharon was born on Sept. 27, 1947, in Wichita, Kansas, to Roy Edgar and Nellora Marie (Corn) Boyer. She graduated from Wichita High School Southeast and later earned her bachelor's degree from Kansas State College at Pittsburg. Sharon retired from U.S. Ag Bank, formerly Farm Credit in Wichita. She was formerly employed by Bank IV and National Bank of Wichita. In Wichita, she was a member of the Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church, where she served as deacon, trustee, elder, treasurer, and sang in the choir. She was very interested in sports; participating in several sports including bowling leagues, and was a fan of the Saint Louis Cardinals baseball team, and was a season ticket holder to Wichita State University men's basketball. She also enjoyed reading fiction. Ms. Boyer moved to Niles in 2003, where she became a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. She and her niece, Stephanie Layman, founded "To Your Door," a delivery service for the produce of area farms. She continued in her interest in sports, bowling on area leagues here, and also enjoyed outdoor activities including camping and farming. She is survived by her brother, Terry (Teresa) Boyer of Stony Point, North Carolina; niece, Rebecca (Jay) Scroggins of Charlotte, North Carolina; and their children, twins, Samantha and Madeline Scroggins; and niece, Stephanie (Mark) Layman of Niles, and their children, twins, Austin and Dylin, Jessica and Matthew Layman. A memorial service will be held for Sharon K. Boyer at 2 p.m. Friday in Wesley United Methodist Church, with Rev. Edward H. Slate of the church officiating. A memorial service in Wichita will be announced at a later date. The family will receive friends in the church, immediately following the service. Contributions in memory of Sharon may be made to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc.; to Wesley United Methodist Church; or to Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church.
