Miscellaneous orbits from Opelika-Auburn News: "Mrs. Lois Perkins Scroggins, 86, of Opelika passed away Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, at Summers Landing Assisted Living in Griffin, Ga.

Mrs. Scroggins was born in Columbus, Ga., daughter to the late John Perkins and Nell Teel Perkins. She was a member of Central Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a charter member of the Tulip Garden Club, member of the Emblem Club and the East Alabama Medical Center Auxiliary. She worked the polls for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, W. Nelson Scroggins and three brothers and a sister.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Robert 'Bob' and Pat Scroggins of Griffin, Ga.; granddaughters, Claire Scroggins Eisentrout and husband Jeff of Rock Hill, SC, and Amy Patricia Scroggins of Atlanta; great-granddaughter, Libby Vining Eisentrout; many nieces and nephews; special friend, Mabel Starnes.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005, at 11 a.m. central time at Central Baptist Church in Opelika. Rev. Gerald Sykes and Rev. Buford Senn will officiate. Friends may visit the family on Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fredericks Funeral Home in Opelika.

Mr. Bivens was born Dec. 14, 1923, in Orrick, Mo. During World War II, he served in the Army in Europe and received a Purple Heart. He moved to Portland in 1955, and was a baker for Nabisco for 28 years. He moved to Gresham in 2001. In 1965, he married Velma I. Scroggins; she died June 29.

Survivors include his son, Robert; sister, Betty Hull; two grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 28 at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. according to Vance-Brooks Funeral Home with the Rev. James Garner officiating. Interment will follow at Riverdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Ms. Scroggins was the daughter of Mildred Goodwin Scroggins of Columbus and the late Theodore Roosevelt Scroggins. She was a lifetime resident of Columbus. Mary Ann Scroggins Funeral services for Mary Ann Scroggins, 52, were at 10 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2005, in Seth Ward Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Ritter, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Lockney Cemetery by Bartley Funeral Home. Mrs. Scroggins died Monday, July 18, 2005, in Covenant Hospital Plainview after a sudden heart attack. She had entered the hospital with pneumonia on Friday, July 15, 2005. She was born Oct. 31, 1952, to Richard Alexander and Nancy Evelyn Fortenberry Breckenridge in Floydada. Mrs. Scroggins attended school in Floydada and graduated from Lockney High School in 1972. She married Larry Scroggins on Nov. 3, 1979, in Plainview. Mrs. Scroggins had worked for Wayland Baptist University. After she left there, she opened Mary's House of Grooming, which she owned and operated for the past 10 years. Survivors include her husband; two sons and daughters-in-law, Odie and Jackie Milligan of Plainview and Perry and Linda Scroggins of Atoka, Okla.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ericka and Thomas Asiatico and Vickie and Tim Shepard of Plainview; four grandsons; one granddaughter; nine step-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; and three brothers Richard Breckenridge of Oklahoma, Ronnie Breckenridge of Snyder and Joe Breckenridge of Arkansas. She is also survived by several very close friends; an aunt, cousins, nieces, nephews and a very special sister-in-law. Her mother and stepdad, George Winn, preceded her in death. Mary Ann will be missed by all who knew and loved her. A love fund has been set up in her name at Hale County State Bank.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a Christina Wu white silk satin gown featuring a sweetheart strapless neckline. The fully beaded bodice of pearls and Austrian crystals extended to a dropped waistline that flowed into a full box-pleated skirt. Her chapel-length train had an inset panel of beaded horizontal bands of pearls and Austrian crystals.


Serving her sister as matron of honor was Alaina Scroggins Pate of Indianola.


Maid of honor was Kathryn Christine Swinney.


Bridesmaids were Lacy Neill Barger of Greenwood, sister of the groom; Allison Jennifer Boatner of Tupelo; Marielle Kristen DePeters of Atlanta; Lesley Claire Ely of Indianola; Marcy Blair Lancaster of Clinton; Summer Diane Liddell of Weir; Whitney Dawn Oliver of Hattiesburg and Jennifer Beth Sunseri of New Orleans.


The flower girl was Ana Clayton Scroggins of Indianola, niece of the bride.


Junior attendants were Deborah Alexandra Domino and Alisa Tyler Domino of Midnight and Catherine Sojourner Randall and Mary Kathryn Robertson of Indianola.


Honorary attendant was Sarah Nanette Randall of Indianola.


Mark Alan Barger served his son as best man.


Groomsmen were Garrison Owen Barger of Greenwood, brother of the groom; Hal Anderson Green of Sardis; Christopher Pullen Logan of Hattiesburg; Alexander Wasson Moak, Andrew Lord Moak, William Calvin Neill II and Ryan Rex Robertson of Greenwood; and James Oliver Turner II of Jackson.


Ring bearer was Wilson Stuart Mink of Jackson, cousin of the groom.


Honorary usher was Jimmy Lynn McGregor of Tunica.


The wedding was under the direction of Mrs. Leslie R. Fletcher of Indianola.


A reception was held at the Greenwood Country Club immediately following the ceremony. Guests were greeted by Mr. and Mrs. David Weldon Aultman and Mr. and Mrs. James Bennett Randall III of Indianola. They danced to the music of the Krackerjacks.


On the eve of the wedding, the couple was honored by his parents with a rehearsal celebration at The Alluvian in Greenwood, where members of the wedding party, family and guests enjoyed a candlelight buffet dinner and music by the Kattawar Brothers.


After a wedding trip to the British Virgin Islands, the couple is at home in Greenwood.

Funeral services for Robert Howard Scroggins, 84, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 10, 2005, in the Chapel of Replogle-Lawrence Funeral Home in Medina. Burial will follow in Hopewell Cemetery in Gibson County with military honors at the gravesite.

Mr. Scroggins died Sunday, August 7, 2005 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

He was born in Maury County, TN son of the late Wesley and Emma Smith Scroggins and was educated in the local schools. Mr. Scroggins was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII. He was a self-employed automobile mechanic and was Baptist in faith.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Melda Ray Scroggins of Jackson; two sons, Robert Scroggins and Wayne Scroggins both of Texas; a step-daughter, Paula Reasons of Trenton, TN; two step-sons, Curtis Laman and Timothy Laman both of Maury City, TN; a sister Ruth Maness of Medina, TN; a half-sister, Lily Mae Gates of Columbia, TN; a half-brother, Dennis Ray Scroggins of Columbia, TN; three grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. today at the funeral home.
