DECATUR - Ruth Viola Lange, 81, of Decatur, passed away at 4:23 am Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at McKinley Court. Services to celebrate Ruth's life will be held at 12:00 noon Monday, March 1, 2010 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church with Pastor Bill Abbott officiating. There were 59 bookings at the San Joaquin County Jail in the 24 hours ending at 8 a.m. Wednesday. At that time, there were 1,354 people held at the jail, which has an official capacity of 1,411.
Drug possession, Stockton: Deputies were called at 12:37 a.m. Wednesday to the first block of North Adelbert Avenue on a report that a woman was causing a disturbance. When they arrived, deputies found Lisa Marie Scroggins, 41, screaming and rolling in a pile of leaves in a front yard. The Sheriff's Office said Scroggins had an outstanding warrant for her arrest and was carrying a loaded syringe and a glass pipe in her purse. She was booked on suspicion of possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of needles, as well as on the outstanding warrant on suspicion of parole violation.

CENTREVILLE Olon Belcher, 95, a lifelong resident of Bibb County, died Feb. 15, 2010, at his home in Centreville. Services will be 12 noon Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, at the Centreville Baptist Church with Rev. Ken Fuller officiating. Burial will follow in Pineland Memorial Cemetery with Rockco Funeral Home of Centreville directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.
Mr. Belcher attended schools in Centreville and was a 1934 graduate of Bibb County High School. From 1934 to 1938, Mr. Belcher attended the University of Alabama School of Engineering.
Mr. Belcher played tackle for the University of Alabama during his college years and was a member of both the 1935 and 1938 Rose Bowl squads.
After leaving the University of Alabama, Mr. Belcher went into the lumber business with his father, H.A. Belcher, and in 1943 purchased the L.L. Ragland Mill in Brent. His business interests grew from the plant in Brent to numerous other local businesses along with residential and commercial real estate development.
Mr. Belcher invested his life and his interest in the communities of Brent and Centreville. A lifelong Brent Civitan member and former Kiwanis Club member, he was always involved in community affairs.
He served his church as a deacon and was a “builder” as Chairman of the Centreville Baptist Church Building Committee. He was elected Trustee at Judson College by the Alabama Baptist Convention in 1962.
Mr. Belcher married Hazel Pierson of Holt in 1940, who preceded him in death in 1999. He is survived by their five children, Olon P. Belcher of Fairhope, Jan Queen (Richard) of Montgomery, Beverly Scroggins [45942?] (William) [45941?] of Tuscaloosa, Brent Belcher (Delilah) of Centreville, and Otha Belcher of Centreville.
Families of the children of Olon and Hazel Belcher include grandchildren and great-grandchildren who survive PawPaw.
Pallbearers are grandsons, Scott Scroggins, Will Scroggins, Jesse Scroggins, Rich Queen, and Jeff Queen.
Honorary pallbearers are all former employees of Mr. Belcher's businesses in the community, deacons and former deacons of the Centreville Baptist Church.

Loretta Austin Pacheco, 54, passed away Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, in Alamogordo. She was born June 27, 1955, in Alamogordo to Jim Austin and Connie Scroggins.
Loretta had been a resident of Roswell for five years and a previous resident of Rio Rancho.
She married Edward A. Pacheco on April 19, 1971, in Juarez, Mexico.
Survivors include her mother, Connie Scroggins [39760], of Boles Acres; brother Roy Austin, of El Paso; and children Neal Pacheco and his wife, Angel, Athena Vega and her husband, Ramon, and Antonio Pacheco, all of Rio Rancho. She is also survived by a very special friend, Jeff Sacharski; 10 grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jim Austin; stepfather, Earl Scroggins [9166]; and brothers Freddy Austin and Larry Austin.
Rosary will be recited at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, at Hamilton-O'Dell Chapel by Consuelo Lothridge.
Should friends desire, contributions may be made by contacting the funeral home.

Born to James Russell and Rachel Rohrback Shaw in Lanesboro, Iowa. Bill, as he was known, was a proud member of ''The Greatest Generation'', serving his countty during WWII in the Navy, as a Gunners Mate. During his six years, he was stationed in several locations, including Ireland, Scotland and Panama. While in Scotland, he met and married Carol D. Burke. Bonni Caron Bowerman and James Robert Vance were born to this union. Dad later married Ann Elizabeth Kuh and were together 43 years until her passing. Bill's working career truly began in the Operating Engineers Union. His Local # 3 kept him busy for many years. He took great pride in his participation with the Orland California Dam and Warm Springs Project. Also, his love of hunting and fishing took him to many different places. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister Lucy Ann Scroggins [42177]. Paul E. Scroggins Sr., age 75, of Evansville, passed away Friday, February 12, 2010, at his home.
Mr. Scroggins had worked as an over-the-road truck driver for Bunny Bread before his retirement in 1988. He was a member of the River City Eagles, River Bend Association and the Moose Lodge #2056 in Kissimmee, Fla. He was a huge Jeff Gordon and NASCAR fan.
Surviving Paul are his wife of 50 years, Jean Scroggins [45934]; a daughter, Paula (Dale) Hurst of Evansville; two sons, Paul "Ed" Scroggins [42941] and Perry Michael Scroggins [45935], both of Evansville; one sister, Violet Sweeney [45933] of Las Vegas, Nev.; and two brothers, James [9281] (Paula)[45926] Scroggins of Kissimmee, Fla., and Charles [45931] (Gladys)[] Orange of Evansville. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Zachary and Felicia Scroggins; four great-grandchildren, Allison, Morgan, Darious and Kaylee; and several nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by his son, Gary Scroggins [50037], in 1988 and his sister, Burneda Gallion [45930], in 2007.
Funeral services for Mr. Scroggins will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Pierre Funeral Home, the Rev. Ken Gallion officiating. Burial will follow in Locust Hill Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family from 1 to 8 p.m. today at Pierre Funeral Home, where the Rev. Jay Davidson will conduct a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry.

Laura Droigk passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010.
Laura was a beloved mother, grandmother and friend. She was a rural letter carrier for the Palestine Post Office.
She is survived by Cliff Scroggins; two daughters, Klila and Kaitlin Scroggins; son, Cade Scroggins; and a granddaughter, Telaney Scroggins.
She will always be loved and very deeply missed. Laura's memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15, 2010 at Dogwood Hills Baptist Church in Palestine on U.S. 79.

Mrs. Mabel Inez Rose, a resident of the Chapman Healthcare Center in Alexander City, Alabama and formerly of Samson, Alabama and Pensacola, Florida passed away Friday evening, February 5, 2010. She was 87.
Private graveside services will be held at the Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida.
Mrs. Inez as born January 5, 1923 in Lafollette, TN to the late Austin and Marie Stokes Madron.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Courtland W. Rose.

was born April 12, 1942 in Dallas, Texas to the late Melvin [37042] and Rebecca Scroggins [37041]. He was one of eleven children born to this union. He was taken home to be with the Lord on January 28, 2010 in Tucson, Arizona. Rafel Scroggins leaves several siblings to cherish his memory: David Scroggins [37045] (Safford, AZ), Jerry Scroggins [37051] (Los Angeles, CA), Herbert Scroggins [37049] (Savannah, GA), Willie Earl Scroggins [37046] (Safford, AZ), Karen High [?] (San Diego, CA), Sheila Irvin [37043] (Safford, AZ), Mildred Scroggins [?](Phoenix, AZ), Merle Scroggins [?] (Phoenix, AZ), and Bob Scroggins [?] (Phoenix, AZ). Rafel leaves a legacy of three surviving sons: Rafael Scroggins Jr. [50032] (San Francisco, CA), Derek Scroggins [] (Sacramento, CA), and Zeke Scroggins [49049] (Lexington, KY); two grandchildren: Seth Scroggins [] and Jada Scroggins [] (Sacramento, CA). Also Colleen Scroggins [] (Pebble Beach, CA), and Thelma Brandon-Davis [] (Safford, AZ), and a host of adoring relatives, cherished friends and church family members, whom he loved. Rafel was very active within the church community. He served the Lord at A-Mountain Church Of God In Christ in Tucson, Arizona. He was very spirit filled and passionate about his church and the work of the Lord, achieving the title of Ordained Deacon on February 1, 1998. He studied the Bible daily, he enjoyed spreading the Lord's Word to all he encountered and would eagerly pray for everybody. He always shared a positive word of encouragement, even when he was ill. Rafel worked in the area of drilling and soil testing for mining operations, among other jobs, before becoming a high power electrician for the City of Tucson for over 30 years. Rafel was a very outgoing person and was well liked by his employer and fellow employees. His enthusiasm for hard work did not stop when he retired in 2004. He made it a point to spend time helping his community and fellow congregational members. He did not know a stranger and has many dear friends throughout the communities of Tucson, Safford and Phoenix, AZ to mourn his passing. Deacon Scroggins, without a doubt -- "All Minds Are Clear" -- you will be truly and sincerely missed! The wake is Friday February 5 6-7PM at Bethesda Community Baptist Church, 906 E. Jones Ave Phoenix. The funeral service is Saturday February 6th 1PM at Taylor Memorial Headquarters, 1725 E. Brill St, Phoenix, AZ. Rev. Edward Clarence 'Eddie' Scroggins

Reverend Eddie Scroggins April 22, 1917 - January 30, 2010 Rev. Eddie Scroggins was taken to his eternal rest Saturday, January 30 at his home in Grand Junction at the age of 92. Edward Clarence Scroggins was born on April 22, 1917 in Eldorado, OK to A.A. (Bud) [9155] and Pearl [9164] Scroggins. He was raised in Oklahoma with his brothers, Earl [9166] (deceased), Ray [9167], and Wayne [9168]. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1941 and was aboard the USS Astoria stationed at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. In 1942, he was given a medical discharge from the service and he returned to Oklahoma. He worked in Lawton, OK as a fireman, attended Cameron College, and met his future bride and lifelong companion, Ruth June Green [8865]. Eddie and June celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on January 19, 2010. Brother Eddie, as he was known to his extended church family, received his call to the ministry in Lawton and he and June began their service to the Lord that continued for the remainder of his life. Eddie served churches in Oklahoma, began a family, and graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University. In 1951, the Scroggins family moved to Colorado to serve at the Calvary Baptist Church at Cortez. In 1955, the family moved to Grand Junction, where Eddie helped begin and build Trinity Baptist Church on Orchard Mesa. After serving at Trinity for many years, Eddie felt called to help rebuild church work in Delta, Paonia, DeBeque, and in Grand Junction. He retired from the pulpit after bringing the message at his 90th birthday celebration at Emmanuel Baptist Church, where he remained a member. Eddie had a passion for serving the Lord both at church and in the community. He was a substitute teacher in local schools for many years, and later, he worked as a juvenile counselor at the Mesa County Sheriff's office. He was an avid supporter of school sports teams and was a fixture at JUCO. He presided over hundreds of weddings and funerals crossing generations of families, including his own children and grandchildren. Eddie's ardent Christian witness and his devotion to God, love of people, and goodness of heart have left a lasting impact on the lives he touched. II Timothy 4:7-8 Eddie and June had seven children, Joy Walker [8867] (Leroy) [8883] , Delta, Sterling [8868] (Paula) [18640], Washington, D.C.; Stephen [8869] (Ronda) [13012], Palisade; John Stanley [?] (deceased); Gloria Trujillo [8870] (Mike) [8870], Espa–ola, NM; Dwayne [8871] (deceased), and Dennis [8872] (Chary) [?], Jakarta, Indonesia; as well as 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held Thursday, February 4 at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, with burial services to follow at Orchard Mesa Cemetery. Rev. Bob Murr of Emmanuel Baptist Church will officiate. A celebration of Brother Eddie's life will follow at Elm Avenue Batpist Church. Callahan Edfast-Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.

James Arnold Williams
James Arnold Williams, "Apple Willy," 88, of Alamogordo, passed into eternal rest on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010.
He was born on Jan. 4, 1922, in Oil City, Pa., and spent most of his life in Alamogordo and Bent. James graduated from Inglewood High School in Inglewood, Calif., in 1939. He joined the 246th Army Air Force Base Unit in February, 1940. He was part of the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during the Air Offensive Japan Campaign in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. He met Mickey Hodgett on a bus in Pyote, Texas. He fell in love and married her on July 29, 1945. They lived in Pratt, Kan., before relocating to Inglewood in 1947. James then became an electrical journeyman and worked for an electrical contractor. While in California, they had two children, Patricia and James.
On a vacation trip in 1954, James and Mickey visited New Mexico and discovered a nice apple farm for sale in Bent. They purchased the farm, moved their family from California, and had two additional children, Linda and Danny. James was an aircraft electrician with the 6580th Field Maintenance Squadron at Holloman Air Force Base until he retired in 1978. He and Mickey were also accomplished apple farmers until they retired in 1996.
James was a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge No. 421 in Inglewood and later Masonic Lodge No. 73 in Ruidoso. He was also a member of the Rocket Shrine Club of Alamogordo.
James, as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, is survived by his wife, Mickey Williams, and four children: Patricia Pendergraft (Carl), of Las Cruces; James Williams (Lori), of Amarillo, Texas; Linda Hardisty (Don), of Albuquerque; and Dan Williams (Debbie), of Alamogordo. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, "His Girls" Leah Carbajal (Gabriel), Elana Rambow (Dean), Megan Fokken (Micky), Gayle Williams (Ryan) and "His Boys" Philip Scroggins, Michael Hardisty and Robert Hardisty. There are four great-grandchildren: Reyes Carbajal, Maia Carbajal, Landon Williams and Cormac Mitchell.
He was preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Irene Williams and a sister, Jean Keefe.

LINCOLN -- Kenneth Wayne Molt, 74, of Lincoln, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010, at 6:26 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, following Masonic rites at 3:30 p.m., which all master Masons are invited to attend.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Carlyle Cemetery, Lake Fork.
Mr. Molt was employed as a firefighter for the city of Lincoln for 30 years. He previously worked at Stetson China, Beich's Candy, and Lehn & Fink. He held an Illinois barber's license since 1963.
He was born Feb. 16, 1935, in Lincoln to Leon Lowell [30992] and Reva Scroggins Molt [30991]. He married Laura Mae Van Fossan on Dec. 31, 1954, in Lincoln.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Kenneth Leon Molt of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., and Rodney Eugene (and Lisa) Molt of Lincoln; a brother, Lowell (and Shirley) Molt of Mount Pulaski; two half brothers, Lonnie and Kevin Molt of Alabama; one sister, Jacquelyn Lannin of Springfield; three grandchildren, Andrew, Tyler and Damian Molt of Riverton; two step-grandchildren, Randy Bailey of Chatham and Candace Bailey of Springfield; one great-grandchild, Jaden Ann Molt; and three step-great-grandchildren, Austin and Conner Bailey and Emma Graham.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was very active in Lincoln Lodge 210, York Rite Order, White Shrine of Jerusalem and Independent Order of Odd Fellows 204.
Kenny held a pilot's license for a number of years and was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association since 1969.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Kenneth Leon Molt of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., and Rodney Eugene (and Lisa) Molt of Lincoln; a brother, Lowell (and Shirley) Molt of Mount Pulaski; two half brothers, Lonnie and Kevin Molt of Alabama; one sister, Jacquelyn Lannin of Springfield; three grandchildren, Andrew, Tyler and Damian Molt of Riverton; two step-grandchildren, Randy Bailey of Chatham and Candace Bailey of Springfield; one great-grandchild, Jaden Ann Molt; and three step-great-grandchildren, Austin and Conner Bailey and Emma Graham.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was very active in Lincoln Lodge 210, York Rite Order, White Shrine of Jerusalem and Independent Order of Odd Fellows 204.
Kenny held a pilot's license for a number of years and was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association since 1969.

Thomas Raymond Koballa, 84, of Wilmington passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2010, at The Commons of Brightmore. He had previously been a resident of Fayetteville, North Carolina, for 35 years.
Tom was born February 6, 1925, in Palmer, Pennsylvania; he was the son of the late Michael and Anna Koballa. He served in the United State Marine Corps during World War II and after attending the University of Pittsburg, was commissioned in the United State Army where he was a Bronze Star Medal recipient during the Vietnam War. During his Army career, he completed his undergraduate and master's degrees at North Carolina State University. He later completed his working career teaching Psychology at Fayetteville Technical Community College at the age of 65.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Dorothy A. Koballa; a brother, Emil Koballa and wife Erma of Fullerton, California; children Thomas R. Koballa, Jr. and wife Dava of Athens, GA, Donna M. Scroggins [46433]and husband Stacy [46426] of Jupiter, FL, Michael A. Koballa and wife Linda of Greensboro, NC, Dennis S. Koballa and wife Anne of Durham, NC and Patrick J. Koballa and wife Cheryl of Wrightsville Beach, NC; and 10 grandchildren, Kendal Koballa, Christopher McMillan, Matthew McMillan, Brett Scroggins [], Michael Koballa, Jr., Kate Koballa, Emily Koballa, Sam Koballa, Erin Koballa and Kasey Koballa.
His family would like to express a special thank you to the doctors and staff of New Hanover Medical Group on College Road, the staff at The Commons at Brightmore and the members of Liberty Hospice.
The family will receive friends at Wilmington Burial and Cremation Service, from 1:30 - 3:00 on Saturday, January 30, 2010.

Thelma Jean Pittman, 68 of McLellan, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2010. Mrs. Pittman was born in Brewton Alabama and had resided in the McLellan area for most of her life.
Mrs. Pittman is preceded in death by her father and mother, James Scroggins and Ruby Thomas Scroggins; a brother Johnnie Scroggins and a great grandson Logan Acree.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Earl L. Pittman, Sr.; five children, Lewis (Damita) Pittman of Milton, Lajean Betterton of McLellan, Wanda (Gary) Murphy of Pensacola, Daniel Pittman of McLellan and Melody (Jimmy) Pittman of McLellan; four sisters and brothers, Elizabeth (Franklin) Pitman, Elaine McCall (Eddie-In Memory), Nelly Presley, and Edward (Linda) Scroggins; nineteen grandchildren, twenty eight great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Pittman will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at the McLellan Assembly of God Church with Rev. Jimmy Pittman officiating. Burial will follow in the McLellan Cemetery with Lewis Funeral Home directing.
The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 noon on Saturday at the Church, prior to service.
Active pallbearers will be Tatum McCall, Derreck McCall, Derryl Pittman, Jimmy Holley, Cord Pittman, Dwayne Pittman, and Willie Murphy. Honorary pallbearers are Phill Rollo, Pete Holcomb, Dale Cabaniss, Buddy Odom, Tommy Odom, William Pittman, and Eddie Melton.
