Message: [46553] George Scroggins WEST COLUMBIA - George Scroggins passed away April 1, 2008. He was born December 2, 1926, in Chattanooga, TN. He worked for many years in the sheet metal and manufacturing industry, and was a World War II veteran of the Navy. During his military service his duties included deep sea recovery of nuclear test materials. Through the course of his life he showed concern for the physical well-being of his family, friends, co-workers, and others in the community - this, in spite of battling the effects of cancer for many, many years. George Scroggins was husband for fifty-one years to Eugenia Elizabeth Hogeland Scroggins, who predeceased him May 17, 1999. He was also predeceased by his youngest son, Henry McGlawn Scroggins, in 2007. George was a loving father to his children. Surviving George Scroggins: one daughter, Janet Dyan Mickle of Suwanee, Georgia; two sons, George Darrell Scroggins of Scottsboro, Alabama, and Jeffrey Lee Scroggins of Lexington, South Carolina; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family of George Scroggins would like to express a special thanks to his friends Adeana and Grant Forren for the care they helped provide for George, as well as to Heartland Hospice for the special attention during his last days. Message: [Sister of 42741] Delores Hutton SPRINGFIELD - Mrs. Delores Hutton, 73, of Springfield died at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2008, at Memorial Medical Center. She was born Nov. 8, 1934, in Springfield, the daughter of Harrison and Winifred (Baker) Givens. Delores married Richard Hutton in Springfield in 1953. Mrs. Hutton was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. She worked as a data entry clerk at Horace Mann and formerly worked at Fiatallis, Franklin Life and the state of Illinois. Though Delores worked for several different employers during her lifetime, her true life's work and pleasure was to serve and care for others. Anything outside that was just frills. Her special joy was her husband, daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchild, all of whom she lovingly doted over. Surviving are her husband, Richard of Springfield; two daughters, Brenda and husband Richard Vogen of Mahomet and Regina and husband James Santarelli of Springfield; three sisters, Melva Reed of Springfield, Katherine Stephens of Fieldon and Emily Scroggins of Cordele, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Kyle Lyons and wife Kathy, Peter, Erin and Anika Vogen and Nicholas, Rachel and Gina Santarelli; and a great- grandson; Ethan Lyons; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Rhonda Lynn Hutton; and two brothers, Earnest and Stanley Givens. Funeral services will be held at noon Monday, April 7, 2008, in Grace Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Thomas B. Christell Jr. and Pastor Juli Guy officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the church. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church 714 E. Capitol Ave., Springfield, IL 62701. Private burial will be Tuesday. Mrs. Rash was born in Cameron, Okla., and had lived for the past 40 years in Jonesboro and was formerly of Trumann. She was a retired housekeeper for St. Bernards Medical Center and a member of Nettleton Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Elmer Rash Sr., in 1992; a daughter, Gail Rash; a son, Johnny Rash; and her parents, Jack and Alice SCROGGINS Neeley.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Alice Long of Jonesboro; one son, Floyd Rash Jr. of Powhatan; three grandsons, Michael Scott Long, Christopher Long and Gregory Forrester; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home. Burial will be private in Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery in Harrisburg. Thompson Funeral Home of Trumann is in charge of arrangements.

Born at Tupelo, Miss., he was a carpenter and contractor who built homes in the Harrisburg and Wynne areas for 35 years. He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Harrisburg and was a former member of the Arkansas Army National Guard.

He played baseball for many years and was a big Alabama football fan. He worked 30 years as a drink salesman with Dr. Pepper, Pepsi, RC and SunDrop. Sterling served as a deacon at Bethel Church of Christ in Bethel, Tenn., for many years. He was always a happy person to be around, even when he didn't feel good. He loved everyone, and everyone who met him loved him, too. He comes from a large family, but there will be a large void without him there to make us all laugh. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Margaret Turner, Mary Ann Perry; and brothers, Willie Lee Turner and Donnie Wade Turner.
