He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie & Mary (Granny) Scroggins & Norman & Juanita Grenz.
Alvin was a member of God’s Family Fellowship Church, which was truly a second family to him.
Alvin was a simple man who loved being with family and friends and listening to and singing southern gospel songs and he was an avid TN women’s basketball fan, although he enjoyed other sports, too. Alvin also enjoyed watching old westerns. Alvin and Nancy’s home was always a home where family and friends gathered to play games, eat, swim and just have fun. He retired from Mohawk Carpets in Dec. 2009 where he had been employed for 42 years and was known as “Smiley”.
The family will receive friends at East Cleveland Baptist church, Alvin’s Mom’s and Dad’s home church as well as his boyhood church, Thursday, May 24th from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM with the funeral to follow at 7:00 PM.   Rev. Doug Bell and Willie (Jr.) Scroggins will conduct the funeral, during which friends and family will be given time to share special memories of Alvin.  Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens Friday morning at 10:00 AM for close family and friends.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to God’s Family Fellowship % Pastor Doug Bell, 260 Sequoia Rd. NW, Cleveland, TN 37312, for the purpose of helping fund the new building for Ms. Nancy’s Pre-School and Day Care, which was a project dear to Alvin’s heart.
You are encouraged to share a memory of Alvin and/or your personal condolences with his family by visiting his memorial web page and guest book at www.companionfunerals.com
