BETTY SCROGGINS

MANSFIELD - A funeral service celebrating the life of Mrs. Betty Scroggins, formerly of Youngstown, will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Mrs. Scroggins was born Nov. 14, 1929, in Augusta, Ga., a daughter of Robert and Nancy Murray Gray.

She moved to the area many years ago, where she became a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church. There she participated in Sunday School, Nominating Ministry and the Senior Choir.

She was also a long time member of the Grant School PTA.

“On Saturday, July, 30, our Heavenly Father cast his eternal light upon Oak Grove Manor and beckoned her home.”

She leaves to cherish her memory, four sons, Ronald and his wife, Nolo Scroggins of Houston, Jesse Scroggins Jr. of Youngstown, Wendell Scroggins of York, Pa. and Larry and his wife, Donna Scroggins of Hampton, Va.; one daughter, Wanda and her husband, Darren Boatwright of Mansfield; a brother, Willie J. Gray of Baltimore; one sister, Glennease Stackhouse of Augusta; seven grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an aunt and uncle, Lindsey and Nancy Jacobs, who reared her; her husband, Jesse Scroggins Jr.; and two brothers, James A. (Bopert) Gray and Napoleon Gray; two sisters, Rosetta (Dolly) Harden and Eula Sorrell.

Friends may call Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Washington Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Friday one hour prior to services at the church.
