MAXINE SCROGGINS
Maxine H. Scroggins, 89, a retired teacher, of Las Vegas, passed away Aug. 6, 2011. She was born March 30, 1922,in Ketchum, Okla., and was a 50-year resident of Nevada. Maxine was extremely kind, generous and wise. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She loved babies especially and they loved her. She had a laugh that was unique and unforgettable. She genuinely loved life and made the most of every situation. She read vigorously and worked the crossword puzzles in the Review Journal everyday. Maxine taught school for a total of 40 years, the last 28 at R.O. Gibson Junior High in Las Vegas. Maxine was raised on a farm during the depression with 10 siblings. She was widowed during World War II with three children, then continued the college that she had previously started. Maxine married again and had two more children. Subsequently, she received her masters in arts degree. She ultimately achieved 32 credits above a masters degree, which was the equivalent to a doctorate. She touched many, many lives and especially Patti and Cathy Ballance, Craig MacGregor and Pam Busey. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Blanche and Kenneth Howard; and son, Howard Davis. Maxine is survived by her daughters, Dona Bonaventure of Las Vegas, Roberta Norwood of Chelsea, Okla., and Wanda Brollier of Las Vegas; son, William (B.J.) Scroggins of Las Vegas; sisters, Margaret Catlin of Texas, Bette Davis of Oklahoma, and Donna Lipe of Oklahoma; grandchildren, Shawn Hammond of Las Vegas, Deanna Radcliff of Broken Arrow, Okla., Travis Norwood of Miami, Okla., Dan Hammond of Las Vegas, Rhonda Douglas of Big Cabin, Okla., Ben Scroggins of Las Vegas, Brian Ullrich of Ft. Dix, N.J., Jenny Holmes of Tampa, Fla., Jamie Brollier of Las Vegas, and Ashley Boggs of Las Vegas; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St.
