CSM Ira Frank Myers June 11, 2007 COLUMBUS, GA- CSM IRA Frank Myers, 86, U. S. Army (Retired) of Columbus, Georgia, died Monday, June 11, 2007 at his home. Funeral services with military honors will be held 11:00 am Friday June 15, 2007 ay Striffler-Hamby Mortuary Phenix City Chapel with the Reverend John Rigby officiating. Interment will be in Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6pm until 8pm at the funeral home. CSM Myers' military career began in October of 1941 5 weeks before the attack of Pearl Harbor. He served with 422nd Night Fighter Squadron in World War II. He also served with the 2nd, 3rd and 25th Infantry Divisions and the 4th Regimental Combat Team, During war time CSM Myers served in England, France, Germany Belgium, Korea and Vietnam. He was awarded two Bronze Star Medals, three Army Commendations, three Presidential Unit Citations, French Croix de Guerre and numerous other personal and unit awards. He was most proud!
of his Combat Medic Badge. He also served on the Army Pistol Team for four years and retired in 1973 with the rank of Command Sergeant Major. In his sports career Mr. Myers was well known in Columbus area softball of which his achievements are too numerous to mention. He pitched fast pitch softball until age 51 and continued playing senior softball until age 72, playing on three World Champion senior teams. Mr. Myers was a loving and devoted father who served his country greatly, cared for his neighbors and possessed the highest virtues associated with the "Greatest Generation". He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Other than his parents Mr. Myers was preceded in death by his wife of more than forty years, Evelyn Buice Myers, wife Hazel Tillery Myers, son, Steve Myers and grandson, Tim Herring. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Kathryn Myers of Columbia Falls, MT., daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Herbert Herring of Phenix City, AL., si!
