Tony Ray Worford, 45, a native of Topeka, Kansas, passed away, Sunday, March 5, 2006 in Nashville, Tennessee. Mr. Worford died of natural causes at his home. He was a captain of the Nashville Fire Department where he had been employed since 1991. He currently was president of the Vulcan Society of Nashville International Association of Black Professional Firefighters. Mr. Worford was born December 21, 1960 to Willie Worford III and Audrey Esquibel Worford. Mr. Worford was a graduate of Topeka High School. On October 27, 1979, he married Corliss Scroggins, also a native of Topeka, Kansas. From this union two children were born, Tony Ray Worford, II, a member of the United States Air Force, currently stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi and Courtney Nichelle Worford of Atlanta, Georgia. Mr. Worford is also survived by one grandchild, Jalen Ray Worford, his mother, Audrey Worford, three brothers, Michael, Greg, and Kent Worford a host of nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and other family members. He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Worford III. Prior to moving to Nashville, Tn., Mr. Worford served on the Topeka Fire Department for approximately eight years. Mr. Worford was cremated. A home going service celebrating the life of Mr. Worford will be held on Tuesday, March 14, 2006. The family will receive friends 10 - 11 with memorial service to follow at Capitol City Community Church of God. Private burial ceremony held with immediate family only at a later date.
