ST. CHARLES, IL – A 45-year-old homeless man who had been living in a tent in a wooded area in St. Charles was found dead this past week, police said. Neil A. Scroggin's body was found lying in the snow near Oak Street and West Main Street Tuesday evening. Police conducted a well-being check on Scroggin after an employee from the company where he worked called police at about 5:22 p.m., according to a news release from the St. Charles Police Department.
The employee told police they were concerned since Scroggin did not show up to work that day, according to police.
The St. Charles Fire Department paramedics and The Kane County Coroner's Office responded. Scroggin was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the news release.
The St Charles Police Department is working with the Kane County Coroner's Office to determine the cause and manner of death.
Investigators have been surveying the area where Scroggin's body was found and interviewing those who knew or may have last had contact with him, authorities said Thursday. An autopsy was performed and there is no indication of foul play.
Toxicology reports are pending.
Anyone who has information about Scroggin is asked to contact St. Charles Police Investigations Commander Chuck Pierce at (630)443-3827.
