TUSCALOOSA – Clarence O. Smith, age 86, of Tuscaloosa died October 27, 2016, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, October 31, 2016, at Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Tim Lovett officiating and visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church. A private service will follow in Wagarville Baptist Cemetery with Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Viola Young and Samuel Owen; his wife of 41 years, Rita Scroggins; six brothers; and one sister.
Survivors include his wife, Janis; son, Stephen; daughters, Kaye and Jamey Lyons (Mark); seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Clarence holds degrees from Mississippi State University, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and clinical pastoral education at Winston-Salem, N. C. He pastored southern Baptist churches in Miss., Md., W. Va. and Ala. for 42 years.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Calvary Baptist Church, Caring Days or Hospice of West Alabama.
