Rockwall County Herald Banner (Greenville, TX) - October 10, 2013
Deceased Name: JERRY SCROGGINS [46821]
Jerry Lloyd Scroggins , 71, of Rockwall was called home on Oct. 3, 2013.
Jerry was born to the late Aaron Ray [46818, FaG:15213825] and Jewel Odessa Cummings [46819, FaG:14573258] Scroggins on Aug. 14, 1942, in Greenville. He attended South Oak Cliff High School in Dallas. Jerry was a nationally recognized, award-winning salesman for many companies, most notably the original Stork Land in Dallas' Casa Linda Shopping Center, Peterson Baby Products, Barcalounger, and Lea Industries.
In addition, Jerry was an artisan and craftsman, specializing in the professional restoration of antique and modern furniture for a wide range of clients throughout the region, as well as providing restoration support and consultation to Ethan Allen, Mayflower Transit, and the historic Majestic Theatre in downtown Dallas.
Jerry is survived by his beloved wife of more than 18 years, Marianna Salonen Scroggins [tba]; brother and sister-in-law Joe Aaron [46814, fb, fb] and Penny Scroggins [46815, fb]; stepsons Brian Cohn and David Cohn; three granddaughters, Sadie [tba], Saige [tba], and Ella Jane [tba]; and numerous nieces, cousins, extended family, and dear friends. He is also survived by Doris Jane Little [52303], former wife and mother of his daughters Katherine Lynn Scroggins [52305] and Natalie Jane Scroggins Gaupp [52304], and his son-in-law, Andrew Christopher Gaupp [52307, fb].
Jerry loved old Hollywood movies ("Casablanca," "To Have and Have Not," and "The African Queen" being his perennial favorites), Marianna's famous apple cake with a cup of hot Folger's coffee, Bible discussion, live music, spirited conversation, and travel (his most treasured trip being a cruise through the locks of the Panama Canal). He was a born storyteller. He was a hero. He was Daddy, Do-Dad, and Grampy. He was cantankerous. He was a chaser of rainbows. And he was a salesman, through and through: "…a man way out there in the blue, riding on a smile and a shoeshine."
Jerry attended the First United Methodist Church of Rockwall, where his remembrance service will take place Saturday, Oct. 12, at 2 p.m. Place of rest will be Bethel Cemetery, Hunt County.
Memorial contributions in Jerry Lloyd Scroggins ' name may be offered to the First United Methodist Church of Rockwall or to a favorite charity of one's own choosing.
