Roger David Hickel (1935-2011)
Roger David Hickel passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at the U. C. Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, at the age of 76. He was born January 23, 1935, in Turner, Montana to Frank and Hilda Hickel.
In 1953 he graduated from Havre Central High School. Roger married Jean Faber [] in 1958 at the St. Jude's Catholic Church in Havre, Montana. They raised five children in Turner, Montana while growing wheat at the Big Flat family homestead. Roger was also an excellent carpenter and member of the National Guards. In 1969 they moved the family to California and he has been a Colusa resident ever since. Roger worked for Colusa Tractor for twenty-four years, and happily retired in 1997. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church of Colusa. Roger enjoyed woodworking, camping, and traveling with his wife, family, and friends. The ocean was a particularly special place for Roger and Jean.
Roger is survived by his children, Peggy Scroggins [41294] (Drew [41289,fb]), David Hickel (Lisa), Russell Hickel (Debbie), Carol Hickel (B.G.) and Rob Hickel (Kelley); grandchildren, Justin Scroggins [41295,fb]}, Jeannie Scroggins [41296], Michael Hickel, Jessica Hickel, and Holley Hickel. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Jean, and three brothers, Frances, James, and Neil, and his sister Marybeth Hickel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Colusa on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at 11 a.m. followed by burial at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Colusa. A reception will follow at St. Bernadette's Hall in Colusa.Visitation hours will be from 5 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June, 2011, with a Rosary at 7 p.m. at the Ullrey Memorial Chapel at 755 Market Street in Colusa.Memorial Contributions may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
