Robert McCoy Contois, Jr. died Saturday, February 5, 2011, at the age of 73. Born July 11, 1937, he was a native and longtime resident of the New Orleans area, and more recently of St. Tammany Parish. Mr. Contois was a loving husband, a brilliant and distinguished lawyer, a generous and devoted father, a doting and playful grandfather, a lover of nature and academic discourse, a keen wit, and a consummate gentleman. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Mitchell Contois; his brother, William T. Haynes; two sons: Thomas M. Contois and Mark A. Contois; a daughter, Rebecca Contois Molina; a daughter-in-law, Regan Kelley Contois, a son-in-law, V. Mark Molina; a stepson, Robert Mitchell, his wife Susan Williams Mitchell; a stepdaughter, Anne Mitchell Souvignier; and seven grandchildren: Joseph Robert Molina; Samuel Kelley Contois; Robert, Margaret, and Richard Mitchell; Clara and Alexander Souvignier. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert M. Contois Sr. and Margaret Scrogin [] Contois; his sister, Margaret Contois Shannon; and his wife, Donna Gaines Contois.
A Memorial Service will be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home at 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. on Friday, February 11 at 3:00 p.m. Visitation begins at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Nature Conservancy of Louisiana, P.O. Box 4125, Baton Rouge, LA 70821, in memory of Bob Contois.
