Essie L. Scroggins - Christopher, IL Essie L. Scroggins, 96, of Christopher, IL, died at 9:12 p.m. Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Heartland Regional Medical Center, Marion, IL. Mrs. Scroggins was born on May 29, 1914 in Franklin County, IL the daughter of Narnie P. Nangle and Mary (Armes) Nangle. She married Charles Louis Scroggins on December 3, 1932 and he preceded her in death on April 8, 1942. Essie worked as a seamstress at the Joan Claire Garment Factory in Benton prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Southside Baptist Church, Christopher, IL and enjoyed genealogy. Surviving relatives include a son, Marvin Leroy (Carol) Scroggins, Marion, IL, four grandchildren, Charles Louis Scroggins, Christopher, IL, Tim Scroggins, Christopher, IL, Linda (Eldon) Scott, Christopher, IL, Roger (Barbara) Scroggins, McLeansboro, IL, five great-grandchildren, Chris (Rachel) Scroggins, Zeigler, IL, Keith (Jesse) Scroggins, Christopher, IL, Caleb Scott, Christopher, IL, Michael Scroggins, DuQuoin, IL, Jared Scroggins, Christopher, IL, one great-great-granddaughter, Lydia Scroggins, Christopher, IL, one step-great-great-grandson, Tyler Pruitt, Christopher, IL, a brother, Ernest David (Marilyn) Nangle, Marion, IL, a daughter-in-law, Alice Scroggins, Christopher, IL, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mrs. Scroggins was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Bennie Scroggins, one sister, Bessie Clark, and one brother, Orval Nangle. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 24, 2011 at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, Benton, IL. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Brother John Overturf officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery, Benton, IL.
