Laura “Nan” Scroggins [42255:3] age 68 of Pearl River, passed away Saturday Jan. 15, 2011. She was a kindergarten teacher at Pearl River Junior High and Riverside Elementary in Pearl River. Mrs. Scroggins was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a member of the Red Hat Society, and the Retired Teachers Association. She attended Steven F. Austin University and was elected Ms. Steven F. Austin in 1963. She was elected friendliest girl in 1962, as well as rodeo queen. Mrs. Scroggins was also recognized in the Who’s Who of American Teachers.
Mrs. Scroggins is survived by her husband James “Don” Scroggins [42254:3]; her son Jay Scroggins [52256:3, fb, LI] and his wife Rebecca Scroggins [42257:3, fb]; one grandson, Bryce Geoffrey Scroggins [42248:3, fb] and her brother James C. Garrison, Jr. She is preceded in death by her son Jeffrey Scroggins [50446:3] and her parents James and Louise Garrison Sr.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday from the chapel of D.T. Williams Funeral Home 67525 Hwy 41 Pearl River. Visitation will be from 6 – 9 p.m. Thursday at Williams Funeral Home, and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday. Interment will follow in Hickory Memorial Gardens, located at 67525 Hwy 41, Pearl River. Brother Waller to be officiating.
