Betty Jo "Sissy" Merritt departed this life to be reunited with


loved ones.


She was born in Evansville on Jan. 14, 1931, to


Dan and Marguerite Smith. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy in 2000, and two brothers, Charlie Smith in 1999 and Sam (Larry) Smith in 2001. She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church.


Surviving are her four children, Eddie and wife, Teresa, Marchie Scroggins and husband, Bill, Cheryl Paul and husband, John and Tony and wife, Denise; 10 grandchildren, Joey Merritt, Valerie Halsema and husband, Duane, Monica Baker, Sonja Orsburn and husband, Steve, Sirena Harmon and husband, Trey, Shelly Paul, John Paul Jr., Michelle Robinson and husband, Robbie, Brandon Merritt and David Merritt; two adopted grandchildren, Alyssa and Cory Cook; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Bob Smith; three sisters, Kate Mossberger, Rita Flener and Fran Cook; and several nieces and nephews.


The family wants to thank Dr. Craig Haseman, Dr. Thomas Browne and the staff at the Visiting Nurse Association for their support and loving care.


Services 10 a.m. Friday, May 4, 2007, at Alexander West Chapel officiated by Reverend Terry Gamblin, with burial at Tupman Cemetery. Friends may visit today from 2 to 8 p.m. at Alexander West Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Association, 909 A Kenmore Drive, Evansville, IN 47714 or to the Vanderburgh Humane Society, 400 Millner Industrial Drive, Evansville, IN 47710.
