Deceased: Richard B. Scroggins

Richard B. Scroggins, age 79, of 4903 Roneta Lane, Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Tuesday evening, June 5, 2007, at the family residence following a four-month courageous battle with lung cancer.
Richard was born on May 1, 1928, in Irene, S.D. He was the son of the late Sterling and Hannah Fredricksen Scroggins. He was a graduate of Sheboygan Falls High School with the class of 1946. From 1946 to 1948, he served with the U.S. Navy. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he continued his education at the Elgin School of Watchmaking from where he graduated in 1950. Richard was the watchmaker and goldsmith at Rummele Jewelers for 48 years, from which he retired in 2002. On Feb. 10, 1949, he married Shirley J. Turek in Sheboygan Falls. In 1973, Richard was appointed to a four-year term by Governor Warren Knowles, to be on the Watchmaking Examining Board of the State of Wisconsin. Subsequently, Richard was reappointed to two additional terms by Governor Lee S. Dreyfus. Richard was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, F. E. O. Eagles Aries 706, American Gem Society, and member and past president of the Wisconsin Horological Society.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years: Shirley; two sons: Rick (Lynn) Scroggins, Cleveland; David Scroggins and his significant other, Jean Bonde, Kiel; four grandchildren: McGuire of Avon, Colo.; Chad of Stevens Point; Sam of Heroshima, Japan; Lisa Krueger of Minnesota; one great-granddaughter: Lilika; one brother: Charles (Sharon) Scroggins, Sheboygan Falls; four sisters-in-law: Dorothy Scroggins, Sheboygan; Audrey Scroggins, Sheboygan Falls; Donna Turek and Dorothy Schlorf, both of Manitowoc. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Robert, William and Donald.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2007, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1130 S. Ninth St., Manitowoc. Officiating will be the Rev. Janis Best, with entombment to take place at Knollwood Mausoleum, Manitowoc.
Relatives and friends may call at Wesley United Methodist Church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to a memorial fund being established in Richard's name.
The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Cremation Center, North 11th and St. Clair streets, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Tom Rauschenberger and the staff of Manitowoc Community Hospice for their care and support.
