Obituary - Mount Pulaski Times-News, 27 June 1946

FORMER RESIDENT DIES IN DECATUR

A patient in the Decatur and Macon Hospital since May 26, Mrs. Harriett L.
Meliza, of 518 West Sawyer Street, Decatur, died in the hospital at 11:37
p.m. Tuesday, June 25, 1946.
Harriett L. Scroggin was born about 74 years ago in Champaign, Ill., a
daughter of Watt and Harriett Sherry Scroggin. Her mother died when she
was quite young, and she was brought to Mount Pulaski and reared to
womanhood by her grandmother, Mrs. David Sherry. She attended Mount
Pulaski schools, and in 1903 married Arthur Meliza, who was employed as an
operator in the old switch tower at the Illinois Central junction. They
moved to Decatur in 1908, Mr. Meliza continuing to work for the
railroad. Decedent was a member of the Mount Pulaski Christian Church,
Starlight Rebekah Lodge No. 767, Decatur, and the Past Grand Nobles Club.
She is survived by her husband; one brother, W. H. Scroggin, of Pilot Rock,
Ore.; two sisters, Mrs. Gussie Cartmell of Little Rock, Ark., and Mrs.
Daisy O'Brien of Los Angeles, Calif. There are several relatives living here.
The body was removed to the Dawson & Wykoff Funeral Home in Decatur, where
funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Mount
Pulaski Cemetery.
