Charles William Scroggins [32209], 79, of Grants Pass died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Three Rivers Community Hospital.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Milton Hayes of Missionary Baptist Church officiating.

Scroggins was born Sept. 25, 1922, in Dayton, Tenn. During World War II, he served with the 362nd Infantry regiment in the U.S. Army.

He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Medal and two bronze stars. On Jan. 5, 1946, in Rossville, Ga., he married Lois Vandewarker [32210], who survives.

They moved to Wimer in 1963, and then to Grants Pass in 1977.

Prior to his retirement, he worked as a truck driver.

He was a member of the Southern Oregon Hound Club. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Diane Witcher [41227] of Soldotna, Alaska, and Susan Scroggins [41226] of Grants Pass; two brothers, Doyle Scroggins [32212] of Spring City, Tenn., and Carl Byrd of Martinsville, Ind.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
