Lawrence Scroggins
Lawrence Scroggins, 73, Oregon, died Monday, May 15, 1995 at a hospital in St. Joseph where he had been a patient since January.
He was born in Forbes June 5, 1921, the son of Jesse Lee and Sadie May (Guyer) [32245:K] Scroggins and attended Forbes High School.
On September 4, 1937, he married Eva Marie Allen in Oregon. She survives of the home.
Scroggins entered the United States Army on May 4, 1945 and served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre during World War II, earning a World War II Victory medal. He was discharged in December 1946.
He was an employee of the Wire Rope Corporation in St. Joseph for 30 years, retiring in 1982. In 1976 he moved to Oregon.
Preceding him in death were five brothers, Conrad, Jesse, Keith, Gerald, and an infant brother; one sister, Lila Blakely and one grandson.
Additional survivors are two sons, (Jay) Lawrence, Jr. and daughter-in-law Sharon, Loveland, Colo., Kenneth E. and daughter-in-law Nancy, Oregon; one daughter, Joyce Loretta Cox and son-in-law Gene, Nodaway; three brothers, Leonard, Oregon, Ivan, St. Joseph, Dale, Maryville; two sisters, Velma Williams and LaVeda Ball, St. Joseph; 20 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be held at 1030 a.m. Thursday, May 18, at the Oregon United Methodist Church with Chaplain Bill Bridgewater officiating. Burial will be in Forbes Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Hand of Hope Hospice.
The Chamberlain Funeral Home, Oregon, is in charge of arrangements.
