CANADIAN — Mary Janice Medford Taylor Scroggins , 76, of Canadian died Saturday, March 22, 2014.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Church of Christ with Delbert McLoud officiating and Shane McLoud assisting. Burial will follow in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery in Canadian. Arrangements are by Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian.
Janice was born July 5, 1937, in Lakeview to the late Jared Enoch Medford and Nellie Rachel Ables Medford. She attended schools in Borger. At 14, Janice and her family moved to Borger, where she met and married Thomas James Scroggins [49396] at age 16 on Aug. 26, 1953, in Stinnett. He preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 1996. They were happily married for 43 years. They moved to Canadian in 1971 from Borger. She was also married for a few years to Guy Folley who enriched her later with companionship and love. He preceded her in death on Nov. 27, 2013. Janice was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, daughter and granddaughter. As a child she loved to fish and swim. She was a seamstress and one of the best cooks in the county. Janice was a well-known Texas artist whose oil and pastel paintings have been displayed in universities, museums, art shows and she was a member of the Sagebrush Painters of Canadian.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include two sons, Tommy Scroggins [35653, fb] and wife Janice [35654, fb] of Canadian and T.J. Scroggins [49119, fb] and wife Janice [49406, fb] of Lubbock; a daughter, Tammye O'Neal [49399, fb] and husband Ron [tba, fb] and Canadian, four brothers, Emmett Lee Taylor and wife Shirley of Duncan, Okla., Jarron Medford and wife Carol of Kemp, John Mike Taylor and wife Sue of Conyers, Ga., and Terry Joe Taylor and wife Janet of Bonham; five sisters, Betty Ann McLoud and husband Delbert of Amarillo, Vonzell Barbour and husband David of Duncan, Lisa Elledge and husband Danny of Athens, Debra Faulk and husband Kel of Athens, Rhonda Ford and husband Dewayne of Granbury; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several nephews, nieces and cousins; and many friends.
The family suggests memorials be to Edward Abraham Memorial Home, 803 Birch St., Canadian, TX 79014.
