Thomas K. Scroggins August 17, 1918 November 18, 2004 PHENIX CITY, AL— Thomas K. Scroggins, 86, former Phenix City Chief of Police died Thursday, November 18 at the Columbus Hospice House. Funeral services with Phenix City Police honors will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Striffler-Hamby Mortuary Phenix City Chapel with the Reverend John Rigby officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Scroggins was born August 17, 1918 in Louisville, Ala., son of the late Joseph C. Scroggins [36718] and Catherine Jones Scroggins [36719]. He was a graduate of the Alabama Police Academy and was the recipient of numerous civic and fraternal awards. Mr. Scroggins was a member of the Wilson-Williams Masonic Lodge #351 F&AM, the American Legion Post 135 and the Fraternal Order of Police. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II where he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for wounds received in combat among other personal and unit awards. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Norman Joseph [42556] and Evelyn Scroggins [42557] of Columbus and Wayne H.[42558] and Sylvia Scroggins [42559] of Smiths, Ala.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Tina [42595] and Knox Ferris [42598] of Salem, Ala., Rhonda [42596] and Jack Long [42599] of Jefferson, S.C., and Cathy [42597] and Shannon Frasier [42600] of Conroe, Texas; two stepdaughters, Joann Jacobs Lee and husband Frank of Carlton, Ala., and Charleen Jacobs Willoughby of Phenix City; one sister, Florence Gramm [36811] of Phenix City; sixteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
