Funeral with full military honors, for James Earnest Scroggins, 56, Lawton, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014, at Whinery-Huddleston Chapel.
He died Monday, Oct. 13, 2014, in Lawton. James was born April 6, 1958, in Turrell, Ark., to Nellie Henson and Willie Scroggins Jr. James grew up and graduated from high school in Oklahoma. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served from 1977 until his honorable discharge in 1986. He then enlisted in the Army National Guard, where he served from 1987 until his retirement in 1994. After his retirement, James worked as a police officer in several places across Oklahoma. He loved animals, especially pug puppies. He enjoyed fishing, playing golf, firearms and spending time with his family. He was a wonderful brother, husband, father, granddad and father-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Scroggins Jr; stepfather, Charles Dunn; brothers: William Scroggins and Terry Davis; and sister, Linda Dunn.
Survivors include his spouse, Debbie Scroggins, of the home; sons: Christopher Scroggins and wife Jennifer, of Belleville, Ill.; and Chase Wiley, of Stigler; daughters: Stephanie Baldridge and fiancé Tony, of Sherman, Texas; and Kimberly Rhodes [, fb] and husband Dustin, of Lawton; grandchildren: Trevor Scroggins [, fb] and Tara Scroggins, both of Belleville; Issac, Rayven, AJ, Dezi and Akillez, Chance, all of Sherman, Texas; and Orion Rhodes and Makayla Rhodes, both of Lawton; mother, Nellie Dunn, of Lawton; sisters: Fay Davis, of Lawton; Linda Scroggins, and Connie Mata, both of South Bend, Ind.; Marion and husband Steve, of Moore; and Sylvia and husband Adam, of Missouri; brothers: Willie and Alice, of Savannah, Tenn.; Johnny Scroggins, and Bart and wife Torrie, all of Lawton; great-grandson, Killian, of Sherman, Texas. He also has numerous extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, at the funeral home.
