Funeral services for Mary Lou Scroggins, age 98, of Mt. Vernon, will be held on Sunday, January 12, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Vernon, with the Rev. Jack Wallace officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery with Tim Parker, Matthew Werner, Mark Werner, and Michael Reed serving as pallbearers.
There will be no formal visitation.
Mrs. Scroggins was born on December 24, 1915, in Dike, Texas, to Henry Ledbetter and Mary Jane Thacker. She married Albert "Shorty" Lonnie Scroggins [52639, FaG:53707771] and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Scroggins is survived by daughter, Joy Silvestro [], and husband, Richard [], of Plano; daughter, Gail Reed [], of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren: Tim Parker, Matthew Werner, Mark Werner, Robin Simmons, Laura Calvert, Keely Sheets, Michael Reed, and Julie Silvestro; and great grandchildren: MacKenna Werner, Madison Werner, Peyton Werner, Blakely Briscoe, Brooks Briscoe, Sarah Grace Simmons, Evagail Calvert, Morris Calvert, Reed Calvert, Thomas Sheets, Brylan Sheets, and Emmersyn Reed.
She is preceded in death by her husband, a daughter [Patsy Carol Scroggins, , FaG:53707902], her parents, three brothers, four sisters, a son-in-law, Mike Reed, and a grandson, Steven Parker.
Flowers are appreciated; however, the family has expressed that memorials can be made to Cypress Basin Hospice or First United Methodist Church.
