Hattie Scroggins
1930 - 2014

Hattie Scroggins, 83, passed away Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014. Memorial service: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, at Richland Hills United Methodist Church, 7301 Glenview Drive. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Street Methodist Mission of Fort Worth. She was born Hattie Brooks Scalf on June 12, 1930, in the front bedroom of a white frame house in McKinney. Weighing a pound and a half at birth, she survived her earliest hours fed by an eye dropper in an incubator made from a shoe box. She survived those earliest days and was a survivor her entire life, overcoming a brain tumor and several bouts with cancer to live a full, independent life. Hattie grew up in Houston where she met her husband, Cecil [39404:P], and traveled the world as an Air Force wife and mom. Her family settled in the Fort Worth area after the military, where she lived the rest of her life in Northeast Tarrant County. She worked as a draftsperson, a teacher's aide, and a full-time mom and homemaker. Hattie always put others above herself, and performed extensive volunteer work in her later years. She loved to dance, to travel, to play games with the girls, to attend the theater, to read and watch mysteries, and she never missed "Wheel of Fortune." She loved her Lord and Savior, and has found peace after a life that included many struggles along with all the good times. A loving and giving person to the end, Hattie donated her body to Science in the hopes of helping others one last time on earth. Hattie's family expresses heartfelt appreciation to her friends and staff at Green Valley Healthcare Center for the love and care they gave in her final years of life. Hattie was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Scroggins; her mother, Mary St. Mary; her stepfather, June St. Mary; and her father, Roy Scalf. Survivors: Her son, Cecil [39406:P] and his wife, Jane [52815:P, fb]; her daughter, Madge Wood and her husband, Ron; her son, Mark [39407:P, fb] and his wife, Christy [51265:P, fb]; and grandchildren, Casey [], Peyton [] and Emerson []. She loved and cherished her children and grandchildren with all of her heart.
