Son of Hazel E. Scroggins Johnson (3 Apr 1915 - 18 Jan 1988) [7507:B]
Gene C. Johnson went home to God on Thursday, September 5, 2013 of congestive heart failure. He was born in Bolivar, MO March 18, 1937, the oldest child of Clark W. [tba:B] and Hazel (Scroggins) [7508:B, FaG] Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister-in-law, Sharon Johnson and brother-in-law, George Gilmore.
After graduating from Pleasant Hope High School, he attended SMS (now MSU) where he was a member of TKE and ROTC. He served his country for 5 years as Captain in the US Marine Corps.
On May 29, 1970 he married Karan (Golden) McGuire. Together they raised 3 children.
Gene spent 35 years as owner and operator of Fulton Rental Center. After closing the business, he found retirement boring so he found employment as a security guard.
Gene is survived by his wife, Karan; children, Mark (Julie) McGuire, Marcie (Kevin) Henslee and Stuart Johnson; 4 grandchildren, J.W. and Kalie McGuire, Kole and Kasey Henslee; brother Fred Johnson of Pleasant Hope; sister, Barbra Gilmore of Springfield, and sister and brother-in-law, Betty and David Cribbs of Bolivar.
He is also survived by an aunt and an uncle, cousin, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 10, 2013 from 6:00pm to 7:30pm at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Memorial Services will be Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at 11:00am in Kings Way United Methodist Church. Burial with full military honors will be at 1:00pm following the service in Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
