Juanita Hurst Myers of Southlake passed away on Sept. 20, 2013 at San Joaquin Hospital in Bakersfield, Calif.

Juanita was born Margaret "Juanita" Hurst on July 7, 1929 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi to the late Joseph [46343] and Mattie (Scroggins [46342]) Hurst. She was the youngest of five children, one sister and three brothers. She attended school in Hattiesburg and completed the 8th grade. Her mother was a housewife and her father worked for the railroad. Juanita moved to California in 1955 with her first husband, Roger Hewitt, and they had two children, Cindy and Rodney. During her early working career, she worked for Northrop Aircraft in Hawthorne, California. She remarried in approximately 1966 to Lauren Gerber and was a "stay at home mom", taking care of her two children plus four sons from his previous marriage. After their divorce in the early 1970's, she went to work for Daniel Freeman Hospital in Inglewood, California where she worked until 1985 as an admitting clerk on the graveyard shift.

In the late 1970's, she met a wonderful man, her soulmate and the love of her life, Donald Myers and they married in 1980. They moved from Torrance to Lake Isabella in 1985 when they retired. In the 33 years they were married, they were inseparable – you never saw one without the other.

Juanita loved living in the Kern River Valley. She enjoyed sewing, playing card/board games, visiting the casinos to play penny and nickle slot machines when she was still able to travel, especially the casino in Bishop, and most of all spending time with her family. She also loved the Lord and had become reacquainted with Him over the last several years. She spent hours reading the Bible and studying the Word, going from cover-to-cover quite a few times.

She is preceded in death by both of her parents, four siblings, and her son. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Donald G. Myers; daughter and spouse, Cindy and Joe Broome of Weldon; granddaughter, spouse and great grandchildren, Nicole (Bell), Matt, Braelynn and Jeslin Durham and Mason Davis of Kansas; Richard Hewitt of Sacramento; Mike Broome of Lake Isabella and JoAnn, Carrisa, Emma and Brycen Broome of Oregon; stepson, spouse and grandson, Wayne, Cheryl and Casey Myers of Thousand Oaks; stepdaughter, spouse and grandchildren, Cheryl, Ernie, Crystal and David Calderon of Lakewood/Long Beach; four stepsons from a previous marriage, Terry, Scott, Stephen and Jeff Gerber.

Per her request, no services will be held.
