James Scroggins |
In Memory of
James Scroggins
January 13, 1927 - October 12, 2011
It was the middle of winter when James Olan Scroggins was born on January 13, 1927 in Abernathy, Texas. He was born into the start of the Great Depression, a time when the nation was struggling. However, that never stopped him from making the best of his life along with his mother, Margaret, and six siblings. James worked on the family farm until he was able to join the Marines in 1944, at the age of 17.
During his 20 year of service in the Marines, James made his way through the ranks to a sergeant. He served in WWII and the Korean War where he was able to travel to many different places around the world. In his time in the Marines, some of the areas James lived in were Thailand, Hawaii, New York, Korea and Japan. He was an American patriot who devoted his life to protecting his country.
Even though a large part of his life was spent in the Armed Force, James still had time for romance. He is survived by his third wife, Catherine Scroggins. Although James had no children of his own he was, and always will be loved, by his grandchildren. His sense of humor and infectious laugh will be missed, but will always be remembered.
A visitation will be held at 10:00 A.M. at Montecito Mortuary with a graveside service to follow at Riverside National Cemetery at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 20, 2011. Arrangements under the direction of Montecito Memorial Park & Mortuary, Colton, California.
