SELMA - Scott Thomas Davis, 40, went to be with the Lord Wednesday afternoon, June 15, 2011 in the line of duty while fighting a church fire.
He was born on June 27, 1970 in Muncie the son of Thomas and Vicki (Ergen) Davis and graduated from Yorktown High School in 1989.
Scott married Raeanne Lillie on June 8, 1996 at the Yorktown United Methodist Church where they and their three children were baptized and very active members. He was a very active member and coach in the Wapahani Wrestling Club. Scott was also a member of Buck Creek Trophy club, Ducks Unlimited, and Muncie Professional Firefighters Local #1348.
Scott started his fire fighting career at the age of nineteen with the Yorktown Fire Department, were he was a member for fifteen years and chief for the last five years he was there. He continued his dream of public service when he was hired on to the Muncie Fire Department on June 13, 2005, almost six years to the day of his death. Scott worked for Ron Brown of Hoosier Pride Excavating, City Machine for nine years as a c-n-c lathe operator and Marsh Warehouse before hiring on to the Muncie Fire Department. He also worked for Nixon Farming Inc., Dennis Nixon for ten years. Scott loved farming! He always said if he couldn't be a fire fighter he wanted to be a farmer. He was able to do both. Dennis, Pete Fillmann, and Gary Coon were very close friends of Scott at the farm. Scott was an avid outdoorsman. His special hunting buddies included many but Kenny Bevins was the man Scott spent much of his time in the woods with. He had many special brothers and sisters from the fire departments, very close brothers, Rob Meade, Mike Rector, Austin Rich, and Todd Pursley. Scott also held with the highest regard his friend and cousin, Sheriff Michael Scroggins.
Surviving are his wife, Raeanne (Lillie) Davis; three children, Jake (14), Emma (11), and Myron "Max" (9), all of Selma; his parents, Thomas and Vicki Davis, Yorktown; his paternal grandfather, Thomas Davis, Muncie; his uncles, Robert Davis (wife, Dinah), Muncie, Roger Davis (wife, Gladda), Muncie, and Donald Ergen (wife, Chris), Illinois; his aunt Arlene Roberts, Muncie; his great-uncles, Eugene Scroggins [35354] (wife, Marilee [35355]), Texas and Bobbie Scroggins [35352] (wife, Marilyn [35353]), Muncie; his great-aunt, Shirley Hale [17331] (husband, Fred [17327]), Michigan; his father-in-law, John "J.B." Lillie, Yorktown; his mother-in-law, Cathy Spears (husband, David), Florida; his grandmother-in-law, Rosemary Lillie, Yorktown; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Helen Davis; his maternal grandfather, Albert A. Ergen [41784]; his maternal grandmother, Pauline Sailor [35356]; his maternal step-grandfather, Kenneth Sailor [35357]; his great-grandparents, Robert [32840] and Alverta [35340] Scroggins; great uncles, Donald [35350] and Glenn Scroggins [34620]; and an aunt, Linda Ergen;
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at The Horizon Convention Center with Pastor Steve Loft officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Cemetery.
Friends may call at The Horizon Convention Center from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday or from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

MUNCIE -- The funeral for Muncie firefighter Scott Davis on Tuesday will include firefighters from across the state, a procession with several fire trucks, including one bearing the firefighter's body, and a "Last Call."
Visitation hours will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Horizon Convention Center.
The Davis funeral will begin at 11 a.m. at the Horizon Center. Immediately after the funeral, a procession will leave the convention center and pass in front of Muncie Fire Station 1, where a "Last Call" radio dispatch will be made in Davis' name.
The procession will then travel to Elm Ridge Cemetery.
On Monday, Davis' body will be transported from Meeks Mortuary to the Horizon Center on a Muncie Fire Department truck. During the funeral procession on Tuesday, his body will also be transported on one of three MFD trucks participating.
Mayor Sharon McShurley has asked local residents, especially those along the funeral route, to "prepare your property for viewing," as well as assist visitors who may coming to the city for the funeral.
Muncie Fire Department Chief Sean Burcham said he expected firefighters from across the state to attend the funeral.
Meeks Mortuary & Crematory has been organizing the calling hours and the funeral services.
Davis was killed Wednesday afternoon while battling a fire at Tabernacle of Praise. He is the first MFD firefighter in 56 years to die in a fire.
Burcham issued a press release Friday afternoon announcing that the church fire "appears to be not of a suspicious nature." The investigation is continuing, he added.
