Deceased Name: Jeraldine S. Golden
Durango resident Jeraldine S. Golden died Saturday, June 4, 2011, in Durango, as the result of complications from a fall at her home. She was 89. Mrs. Golden was born to Wilburn [] and Leona [] Scroggins on April 1, 1922, in Big Flat, Ark.
In 1940, after she graduated from high school in Oklahoma, she married Rathburne E. Evans [].
After they divorced, she worked as a dietitian at the Elk City Hospital in Elk City, Okla.
She married David Willis [] in San Diego. The marriage later ended in divorce.
Mrs. Golden was a caregiver for the elderly for many years in Elk City and in Durango, where she had lived for the last 23 years.
She married Oran Golden [] in Elk City. The marriage later ended in divorce.
Her family said Mrs. Golden was an avid reader and loved to make Christmas stockings. She was a gifted poet whose poetry was published in a magazine. Mrs. Golden was also a wonderful cook.
She was a member of Church of Christ in Durango.
Mrs. Golden was preceded in death by her son, Jerrel Rex Evans [].
She is survived by daughters Margaret Fern Ferguson [] of Durango and Mary Karen Evans [] of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; sister Sue Scroggins Frisbee [] of Louisiana; brother Fred Manuel Lay [] of California; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2011, at the Church of Christ, 2100 West Third Ave., in Durango. The Rev. Guy Orbison, Jr. will officiate.
A graveside service will take place at 2 p.m. Monday, June 13, 2011, at the Cleveland Cemetery in Cleveland, Okla.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the internship program at the Church of Christ, P.O. Box 633, Durango, CO 81302.
