PENDLETON — Watt C. Scroggin, 100, of Pendleton died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010, at St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton. Visitation will be held from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12 at Pendleton Pioneer Chapel, 131 S.E. Byers Ave., Pendleton. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 13 at the funeral home.

Mr. Scroggin was born Nov. 24, 1909, in Dawson, Ill., to William and Lucy (Constant) Scroggin. He was the fourth person to graduate from Ukiah School in 1928. After graduation he attended Adcock Auto & Aviation in Portland, and then Hemphill Diesel Mechanic School in Seattle. He married Ella Canvas Cardwell in 1932 in Pendleton.

He returned to Ukiah, where he was employed with the U.S. Forest Service as a heavy equipment operator for 11 years. As the Forest Service was only seasonal work, he began work full-time for the State Highway Department in Ukiah as a heavy truck driver. He worked for a time in Condon and Burns, and then returned to Ukiah as a foreman. After living in Ukiah for more than 52 years, he and Ella moved to Athena, where he became the highway foreman in that district. After 14 years that office closed, and they moved to Hermiston. He was foreman there until he retired in 1974.

After Ella's death he later married Dorothy Partridge in 1985.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews who fondly called him "Uncle Watt."

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lucy Scroggin, and wives Ella Scroggin and Dorothy Scroggin.
