Huey Lee Sanders (1925 - 2010)

Funeral services for Huey Lee Sanders, 84, who was a lifelong resident of Louisville and Barbour County, were held Tuesday, March 9, at 2 p.m. from the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Louisville.

Reverends Curtis Rich, Josh Pierce and John Phil McLaney Jr. officiated and burial followed in the church cemetery with Kent Funeral Home of Clayton directing. Mr. Sanders died Sunday, March 7, after an extended illness.

Born Dec. 7, 1925, Mr. Sanders was the son of the late William Henry "Buddy" and Gussie Mae Conner Sanders.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Evelyn Sanders Dorman.

Mr. Sanders was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for 45 years.

He loved fishing and hunting when he was able and enjoyed playing the guitar.
He was retired from Louisiana Pacific Corp. after working there for 15 years.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Ruby Scroggins Sanders [], son and daughter-in-law Ronnie H. and Margaret Sanders, daughters and sons-in-law Gwendolyn J. and John P. McLaney, Sylvia J. and Douglas Phillips, Josie, and Connie L. and Tommy Westbrook, all of Louisville; brother and sister-in-law, Milton and Kaye Sanders of Phenix City; sisters and a brother-in-law Audrey Sanders Horne of Geneva, and Arlene and Bill Gates of Louisville; grandchildren John Phil (Emily) McLaney Jr., Shad (Tabitha) McLaney, Kristy Phillips (Sam) Williams, April Westbrook (Jason) Pickett, Amy Westbrook (Lamar) Boswell, Kevin (Michelle) Phillips, Rhonda Sanders (Aaron) Taylor and Dustin Lee Sanders and 16 great-grandchildren.

Ask to serve as pallbearers were Terry Dorman, Billy Gates, Darren Gates, Mark Horn, Mike Sanders and Scott Sanders and honorary pallbearer Todd Gates.
