Margaret Owen Newland
NEWLAND, Margaret Owen Age 84, a Nashville native, died March 3rd, 2009 at home in Maitland, FL. She was born January 17, 1925 to Joseph N. Owen and Eleanor Hill Owen of Nashville. As wife of oil company executive, C. Bruce Newland, she had lived across the Southeast before settling in Charlotte, NC in 1968. After rearing two sons and the death of her husband, she began tutoring elementary students in reading, and then did similar work in the Charlotte-Mecklenberg School System for many years. An antiques and history buff, she was an active docent at the Hezekiah Alexander Homesite. She had resided in the Orlando area for four and a half years. She is survived by her sons, C. Edward Newland of Richmond, VA and Joseph N. Newland of Philadelphia, PA; granddaughters, Maggie Newland Scroggins [44021] of Minneapolis and Christy Newland Bush of Richmond, Emily Jane Hartman of Nashville and Orlando, and Ellen Roddy of Orlando. There will be a Memorial service for Ms. Newland at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Nashville, on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at 12 Noon.
